  • Best bass for the price
For an 88$ bass, this thing is amazing, I’ve owned it for a day, hasn’t went out of tune once, no fret buzz, havent had to fix it, im a guitarist and this is my first bass and I’m really happy with it, in my opinion I think this is better than getting a fender bass

  • Good Student Bass with a Set Up
Size: Left Handed 39" Color: Black
Purchased this for my granddaughter for Christmas as she is just learning to play bass. For the price it really is a nice bass BUT it required quite a bit of a set up before it could even be used. This really isn't fair for a student player who is not going to know how to set up their bass. The one we received had a straight neck that needed no adjustment. That was great but the bridge was just slapped on and not adjusted at all. The action was so low that you could not play the bass at all. I adjusted the action, tuned her up, then set the intonation and it quite playable. A beginner is not going to be able to complete a set up and may be discouraged from playing. After the set up it played ok. There were no sharp fret ends and the pick up was pretty punchy. The tuners will have to be replaced at some point as it tends to not stay in tune but that is fixable. It could use a set of replacement strings and I will probably do that for her in the near future. The bass looks great. The finish is almost perfect with no visible imperfections, really nice for a budget bass. Unfortunately, the cord that was supposed to be included was not nor was the strap. No problem. I got her another but still a little disappointing. Overall this is a decent beginner bass provided you can do a setup or find someone who could. Without knowing how to set up or paying someone to set up I would pass. ... show more

  • Great instrument
Size: Left Handed 39" Color: Black
My adult son wanted to try the bass. I'm a lifelong pro musician. I bought this bass and gave it to my bass player to set up. He said it's actually a very fine instrument. The neck is perfectly straight and it's easy to play for a beginner. He was amazed at the price I paid, and said it was better bass then other brands at triple the cost. Very happy with Glarry! ... show more

  • Initial review of a pretty decent bass (Edited: read on!)
Not bad for $65. It can use a bit of setup, lower the strings a little and adjust the intonation. It's way off on one string. Straight out of the box I'm pretty impressed for what it cost. It's been so long since I played a real Fender Precision I can't remember how it operated. The volume and tone seem to interact with each other, and I can't remember if it was the same on the late 60's Precisions I have played many years ago. Since high school, actually. It has inexpensive roundwound strings, and how they're going to sound is unpredictable. Sometimes they're nice round tones with a little brightness, and sometimes they "ring". Have to try a better grade string on it. I'll leave these for a while and see how they settle in. Some people have said it has neck dive. I didn't notice it. Seems well balanced for a light guitar. Others have said the neck is too thick. Glarry must be listening, because it feels just right to me. Balance feels just right. Also, not a single fret that needs filing. They all look nice and even in the neck. Overall, at this price a decent bass for a beginner, or someone like me who wants a practice piece or something to bring to an open mic or a rowdy party. EDIT: Finally got to plug it into my semi-pro bass rig at the drummer's house. First, a bit more about setup: The neck was true out of the box. Strings were a bit high, so I got my "guitar tool" and set about lowering the strings and adjusting intonation. The intonation was surprisingly close. I got the strings to height, perfect, no buzzing, and the intonation was off by a matter of about 1/5 step. It took me about 15 minutes. Then I set the pickup height, another 30 seconds. Now for the test: Tuned it, plugged it in, powered it on, a twist of tone and volume and...WOW! I cannot believe for this price the sound is this good. Clean low bass, clear midtones, and a nice higher end punch, even with the original strings. A lot better than I was expecting, and better than I hoped for. They asked me what I paid, and they said, "You gotta be kidding." I thoroughly enjoyed playing it. It has been slipping out of tune, but I tuned it once and when I checked 2 hours later it was still perfect. I was waiting to see if it might need a pickup upgrade after playing through a combo amp, but I'm leaving the stock ones as they are. I really can't believe for what this cost I got an instrument this good. It's not absolutely perfect. But it didn't cost 10 times more and it's good enough to please me. I've been playing for 56 years, and have far more expensive basses. I'll be playing this one, a LOT. It is that good. I didn't try the cord, I had a brand new high quality one waiting to be used. The gig bag is thin and really offers very little protection, but the handles make it easy to carry. I will certainly be upgrading that. In fact, I like it so much I may get a low end hard shell case, about the same price as the guitar. I have 30 year old basses that look brand new, and I like this one enough to keep it as pristine as possible. The one small issue: the neck is unfinished. Not bad, it was fine for a three hour session today, but I am going to restring it, and I ordered some Danish oil to finish the neck. A light sanding and three coats should complete the job for a silky smooth neck. ... show more

  • At this price? 5 stars
Let’s start with what’s wrong with it, because at this price point that’s probably what you want to know. The first thing I noticed right out of the box was that the back of the neck is a little rough. I can tell it has been sanded, and it’s certainly not going to give you splinters, but I’d be unhappy with it in a more expensive instrument. Not a big deal, just something I’ll be refinishing. Second, I was glad to see that the guitar came with strings, but was surprised to open the package and see that they were already on the guitar, and had some tension on them as well. Again, not a big deal, just not the way I would have done it. When I first started playing the instrument I noticed a few buzzy notes, but I haven’t adjusted the neck or tried any different strings yet, so the jury is still out on that one. I also would not trust the guitar strap that comes included. The bits that attach to the bass are made of VERY thin material. I’m just using one of my other guitar straps. And really that’s it for the “bad”. The tone is fine, playability is fine. I’m just looking at this as a mostly-finished instrument that just needs a little bit of tweaking and touching up to be really great. ... show more
