Ordered this through Amazon and had a licensed HVAC company install it in my garage to keep the animals cool and or warm. Everything worked fine for the first summer and winter…….And then, it didn’t. Had the HVAC company come back and see if the unit had leaked any R-32 refrigerant out. No leak. After a few conversations via email with the Costway customer service team and a little bit of uncertainty, they agreed to replace my outdoor unit at no charge. Hopefully, this is a one off and just had a restriction somewhere in the outdoor unit. Most likely a faulty part. I believe they make a bumper sticker about things like that I’ll follow up on this review in 6 months to let you all know how the follow through went with Costway. The unit arrived in two cartons and was well packaged. The instructions, and that includes the video, do not cover all of the steps you will need to do. You will need at least two people to install this. Running the hoses and cables through the wall(s) is the biggest challenge, especially if you do not have a straight shot through an outside wall. The connections need to be really tight, they recommend a tourque wrench, but it went ok with just two open ended wrenches. The unit uses R32 coolant, which most a/c technicians don't use. You can use an R410a adapter connected to the R32 valve on the compressor unit to evacuate the lines. That took a lot of internet research to find out! The first time I evacuated them, it would not hold -28 for more than 15 minutes. If it leaks at all, stop and retighten all four connections. (There is no point in going on if it won't hold a vacuum. Getting a pro to come out and do it will probably cost half as much as the unit. They will probably not have R32 refridgerant, and you should 100% use what the unit was designed for. All refrigerant is NOT the same. It should seal without putting anything on the flanges. There could be a leak inside the blower unit, but that would probably be rare. ) The return line on the blower unit was the hardest one to tighten. We went directly through the wall behind the unit, so the only way to get to that connector was to hold the unit up away from the wall, tighten the connection and hang it up again. The video shows the hoses running out the side and then into the wall. That looked a bit rough to me, so I opted for the more challenging way. See photo. Once the lines are evacuated and hold the vacuum, turn both hex nuts on the valves on the compressor unit to.let the refrigerant into the system. I would not recommend using longer lines than the ones delivered with the unit. There may then not be enough refrigerant for the system to operate. Once running, the unit is very quiet, both inside and outside. The sound of silence. It cools very quickly. It has been running a week without any issues. Notes: 1. It has a standard 15 amp plug, so for now, I just plugged it into an existing outlet. Maybe I will make a separate circuit someday. 2. The unit pulls a lot of water from the air on humid days. Be sure to have a plan for the rather short drain hose. I will be buying more of these and eventually phase out the central a/c. ... show more

Less then a year and the condenser has gone out. There is absolutely no way to get ahold of this company for a “warranty exchange”. There is an outlook email in the document they give you for the warranty which nobody answers emails from. I’ve installed several of these from different companies and never had issues until this brand. Don’t buy it. Amazon support isn’t even available for this product. ... show more

Only 4 stars as the first one I ordered was sent by USPS... yup you read that correctly. The base unit was damaged and cooling fins bent. The top half never did show up. Shipper sent another complete unit UPS, it showed up undamaged and with-in a couple of days of each box (They are shipped separately as stated in the listing). Installation was straight forward, watch the videos! (HVAC Mechanic has an excellent video on vacuuming the lines). Our mini split was replacing a swamp cooler so there were a few extra steps to prep the area and since the electrical connections are inside the garage and the circuit panel is close we did not use a shut off by the unit. The outside unit was mounted at chest height, we live in Nevada an hour from Death Valley. There is a lot of wind and mounting the unit this high will keep debris and dirt from piling against it. The pipes were zip tied UNDER the unit, seen LOTS of videos of folks putting them behind the unit but to us that would block the air flow that is vital for proper operation. You will need a 5/16" SAE X 1/4" SAE flared fitting designed for mini splits. Even though we watched a few videos on the process for installing, this was never mentioned. SO we had to wait a few days for parts to come in since we live remotely. Purchased one on Amazon for around $8. At first we tried renting gauges from O'Reilly, and thought we could find an adapter to connect it to the 1/4" flared fitting.. that was a bust. Seams the gauges our auto supply had was non standard, more of a 5/16" but wrong threads to connect to the unit. Ended up purchasing the gauge set on Amazon for around $30 (more time waiting for delivery) and rented the vacuum pump from the auto parts store. That ends up being free as your deposit is fully refundable. Hope this helps! ... show more
