This item replaced a Stanley retractable hose reel that broke after years of daily use. This one seems more substantially built, so I am optimistic that it will have a long life like the Stanley (which does not seem to be available any longer). I mounted this one on a brick wall and did not use the included hardware. Instead, I used 3” long 1/4” Tapcon masonry anchors and pre drilled 5/16” holes using a hammer drill. Very secure and avoided drilling even bigger holes for the questionable plastic anchor inserts that came with the unit. Plus, the 6.9” vertical spacing of the mounting holes would not have allowed me to stay entirely on the surface of the brick with the included inserts—I would have gotten into mortar joints top or bottom. The Tapcon solution put smaller holes entirely into brick. I will update over time, but everything works perfectly thus far. My wife loves it even though it takes more force to pull out the hose than our old reel. New versus old, and strong design, I think. ... show more

    • Pro’s, Con’s & Advice when purchasing this great retractable hose!

Last year I purchased this same brand only the one that is 100’ long, it had the smaller hose, It takes care of my front yard. This year I purchased the 90’ retractable hose and this one has the larger hose. I LOVE them. I am listing the pro/cons and advice for both. The 90’ hose is for my back yard, It is much harder for me to pull it all out, but both take effort to pull out. PRO’S: You will never have to roll up by hand your hose again, it delivers a great amount of water, CON’S: both hose’s will kink when watering and when this happens the water will completely shut off. Both size’s of the hose take ALOT of effort to pull out, but I have a lot of health issues so ADVICE: When rolling the hose back into the unit, you will need to keep your hand on the hose to keep control, otherwise it rolls up too fast. When doing this, I keep the water on, and I spray the hose where my hand is on the hose as it is retracting, this will keep the hose clean and help keeping the internal area from getting all the dirt/grass that sticks on the hose. Last bit of advice: Make sure it is mounted securely, Our back yard hose is attached on the side of our fireplace, the hose in the front of house, has pulled away from the house. My husband finally attached a board to the front of our house and attached the real to the board. If it pulls off again, he plans on getting a square deck support post, digging down, then using cement to set the post, and then mount the hose to that. All in all, this is a GREAT retractable hose, and I use it every day during the summer. I also highly recommend this to anyone looking to get this hose. ... show more

Only criticism is the feeder roller looks a little weak but works great and no problems as of yet, great price and definitely glad I had the 5/8 hose over the 1/2in

Use the larger drill size for concrete wall, otherwise installing the plastic anchor will be difficult. Otherwise, installation is straight-forward.

This is my second garden hose reel from Giraffe. The first one worked great, but I bought a new house and decided to leave the first reel at the old house (it was custom mounted to the side of the house). The Install - I wanted an install that was a little less permanent this time around, so I decided to go with a post mount. The bracket for the reel is a little wider than a 4x4 post, so I recommend either using a 6x6 post. I decided to make use of what I already had, so I used a 4x4 post with a 2x6 inlay to attach the bracket to. This worked great! I also used a half bag of concrete mix in the post after making sure it was plumb. After just a few hours I could confidently say the post wasn’t going anywhere. The extras - I plan on installing another post just like this in the back yard in case I want to hot swap the hose reel from the front yard to the back yard. To make this easier I attached a quick release garden hose adapter to the hose leader (part that connects to the reel). This makes disconnecting the reel much easier! I used a durable garden hose and cut it to the perfect length and attached a female hose repair attachment to the cut end to make the perfect custom hose lead. I will do this in the back yard as well - this way I don’t need to move the lead as well, just the reel. I also ordered a metal post protector for the bottom of the 4x4 post - this helps to make sure the post doesn’t get beat up over time from weed whipping. Hope this helps! The media could not be loaded. Easy to install, but lacking in quality and sturdiness. As you can see in the video the plastic nozzle leaked after only a dozen uses. The hose is not the best quality either getting a kink in it and making the retraction more difficult. Update: After posting this review I was contacted by Giraffe Customer service explaining I could ask for a full refund by replying "full refund" to their email; which I did. The next day I received another email requesting pics and video (which are in the review and have been provided to Giraffe Customer Service before). Additionally, they offered to replace the unit. Their Return Offers and Requests change daily. One last consideration: When I initially reached out directly to Giraffe about the nozzle they requested pics and video (which were provided). They offered me $20 or a replacement nozzle. I chose the $20 due the the poor quality of the plastic nozzle. Never received the $20 or the nozzle. Here is the theme: You can contact Giraffe Customer directly and be offered a refund; never to be seen. You can write a review to which they will respond with everchanging requests and no resolution. the hose and mount are incredible and having this as part of the back yard has been a wonderful addition. However, after less than one year of use the nozzle that comes with the hose broke. It leaks at the handle and lever to turn the water on.
