The good: It looked nice in the box. The not so good: It gets stuck in the log more often than it splits it. I tried both side and end splitting with sumolar failures. You can't reverse it out of the log since the drive tang is threaded into the splitting cone, it just removes the drive tang. There are no flats or hex on the splitting cone to use a wrench or socket to remove the stuck come from the log. To remove it you need to put it in a vice or use a pipe wrench both tear up the major diameter of the cone. The above trials were on 4.5" diameter, 2 year old apple that was about 6" long that I store and use for smoking. The only think it split fairly well was a 3" diameter piece of very dry pine. I don't need to split 3" diameter pine. It might work in principle, but it's a terrible implementation. ... show more

Using ryobi hammer drill in Hammer mode, as recommended. All you do is get this locked into wood that you cut back out. Find a splitting wedge or axe and save your money

Doesn’t work. Don’t waste your money. Waste more time getting the drill bit out of wood than splitting it. We even tried the big hammer drill.
