You shouldn't allow the 4 stars or the headline to steer you away from this board. It is a better-than-4-star-board, I am really rather pleased with the speed of the board... or rather, it is a bit of a step up from the MSI x570 board that I purchased when I built my box. The only suggestion that I would make to anyone who purchases this board is to perhaps consider chucking another wifi card into the board before you begin your install--take it from me, inside my case, this board is tight or maybe my hands are just fat, anyhoo, it is a pain in the neck to dig an assembled board out and flip it on its ear to remove the wifi card and not turn everything into an expensive paperweight... To the point i live in an old building, one ethernet port connected to router 125-150 logistical feet from my desk, so wifi is the only option... my Gigabit interswebs was consistently choked down to a creeping 450 Mbps or less (usually 300-something) by the mediatek card that shipped in this board... I went through the pain in the neck of swapping that card out with the Intel AX200 unit that was in my old board and voila... interwebs went back to 892 Mbps on my first test after boot. If you purchase and attempt said swap, be cautious, the shroud around the rear cluster seems to like being just where it is, making the swap a bear too... I taught myself a few words that would make any sailor proud. With the additional investment of my time and swearing, this board is MORE than worth what i paid for it. ... show more

I had an older MSI AM4 motherboard in my system that was only good up to 2nd generation Ryzen 5 CPU's or below. I had been looking to upgrade my motherboard to support future upgrades to newer and better Ryzen CPU's. AM 5 and DDR5 were not a requirement since they would have been overkill for my requirements. Simply upgrading to a newer generation Ryzen 5 and a newer GPU will keep me happy for at least 5 more years. I wasn't really considering this motherboard since it was more expensive than some very nice B550 boards and I also believe in the old adage that you should save money where you can and roll those savings into a better GPU. Then Amazon Prime day rolled around and this board was suddenly $150 of if it's regular price. That savings was to good to ignore in this case and made this motherboard more than worth every penny paid for it. As an X570S board, this board is very feature rich. Other boards may have many of the same features but this board just does it better and it also uses better components (as in also does it much cooler). I bought the board and am still using my Ryzen 5 2600x CPU but will be upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 5 5600x (or possibly better) next. I had no problem swapping out the old motherboard and installing this one. Everything worked at first power on after the swap and even though I am still using my older Ryzen 5 2609x CPU, I easily notice the improvement in performance that simply installing this board brought. I really cannot sing the praises of this motherboard more. This is an outstanding board. For some people it will be worth the premium they are going to pay for an X570S board. For most of us though, we will probably get the same thing from one of the very nice B550 boards that are available for significantly less than this board normally retails for. Then again, if you find this board being sold for $150 less than it's normal retail price, snap it up quickly. It will be one of the best purchase decisions you have made. ... show more

Original review: [Title: Wow, apparently GB didn't test this board with aircooling. ] Because if they did, they would realize the heat sink on the VRM blocks the AM4 mounting brackets, it's too high and the mounting bracket winds up lopsided! I went through 3 motherboards until I gave up due to erratic CPU temps and boot loop behavior because of this issue. I used the Dark Rock Pro Slim. I've attached photos of the issue. I'm going to try the Noctua and if that mount also hits the heat sink, this whole mess of the X570S is going back. This is insane, something so simple for a TDP of 105 Watts, they made it so overkill that you can't even use the thing without forcing you to use water cooling which is absolutely not necessary. I feel bad for Amazon for having to be the middle man in all of this, but come on Gigabyte, did ANY of you test it with BeQuiet or Noctua air cooling? Is it that hard to do? I have that in my MSI Gaming Carbon X470 with a 3900X, same TDP and works perfectly and no blockage on the VRM on the mounting bracket. Update: 6/8/2022 Tried installing the Noctua NH-U12S, wont install, in fact, it's even worse since the 4 mounting posts are shorter! It looks like the 90 degree will work, but I’ll be using a open air GPU (there were no blower style GPU’s which I prefer) where the CPU fan will be sucking in the GPU exhaust. The black bracket is BeQuiet / the bare metal bracket is the Noctua NH-U12S Update 6/12/2022 I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOARD! Just be careful when choosing an air cooler if you go that route. In the end, the Noctua NH-U12S worked, as I jumped the gun and used the compatibility set that turned out to be no good, the actual fan set it good, but not thrilled, because if someone is not careful enough (no instructions to say so) the standoffs have an up and down side, noted by a slight raise in the center on the bottom (no mention of this in the manual) but the reason for that is the trace wires are VERY close to the fattened standoff (esp. compared to BeQuiet which is much slimmer) and that’s (I hope so) to prevent damage to those trace wires when screwed down. Anyways, GIGABYTE, THANK YOU! I choose you over MSI, Asus, ASRock and others for ONE REASON, and that is IOMMU/SVM support COUPLED with the option to change what PCI slot is used as your boot GPU....this makes virtualization so easy and helpful! Great board and PLEASE keep up the great work! This board is so good, I bought two of them, one primary and one as a backup system. ... show more
