  • Prices are going down
I've been wanting a 3080 since the cards were released 2 years ago, and like most ppl I couldn't get my hands on one, or I could but end up paying 3x msrp. my 1st gpu was a 2060 I purchased back in Jan. of 2020. it was an awesome little card, and a huge upgrade from my now 13 year old celeron laptop that I used back in college. 1080p gaming was now a breeze and I could play all modern titles at a high fps and revisit my favorite older titles to breathe new life into them... but then came cyberpunk 2077, a game I really wanted to play despite the issues at launch. I'm an avid fan of the genre, from bladerunner to the 5th element and etc. despite how heavy on performance it was, my 2060 ran it like a champ at 1080p 60fps w/dlss, and didnt experience too many bugs. finished the game in about a month, but I wanted more. I wanted to experience cyberpunk and other games at an even higher resolution with RT on and my 2060 wouldnt cut it. So in 2021 I was lucky to get my hands on an RTX 3070 in the newegg shuffle. Now I could play all of those titles at higher resolution with RT (dlss came in clutch with cyberpunk). It was a powerful card, even rivaling the 2080ti, but there was something it was lacking. Vram. If I'd attempt 4k high/ultra settings in most games, the 8gb vram was the clear limiter which is the reason some games run better on 2080ti at 4k compared to the 3070. I needed more vram, and while the 3080 10gb with its 6x memory and higher bandwidth was a clear upgrade path, (3090 made no sense) you have to admit 2 more gigs vram doesnt sound very enticing and while AMD has more vram at a similar price point, they lack in other features. Enter the 3080 12gb. I was lucky to find a very low used price on amazon ($700) compared to the crap show of the last 2 years. despite it being used, this card doesn't appear to have been used for mining. its also LHR (if that matters at all lol) temps look typical for a 3080. I saw no physical issues either so its as if this card was maybe used briefly then returned and it sat in amazon warehouse for sometime? it's much better at 4k gaming, and about 30% faster on average than my 3070. I may not upgrade for a few more gens since it performs so well in the games I play and given how volatile the gpu market has been, it doesn't sound too bad at all... Edit: card arrived on July 21st, so it has been one month since I wrote this review. here's the rundown: low to mid 30c while idle, mid 60s while gaming but it does ramp up at 4k. so pretty average for a 3080, but it has the best thermals out of any other card I've owned. No issues while gaming, surfing web, no blackscreens, no artifacting. I always have either afterburner or hwinfo running 24/7 monitoring temps, clocks and fanspeed. both good software that I'd suggest you use... ... show more

  • Perfect
I was skeptical about buying a used card but I gambled for the price and was not disappointed. Great card, great value.

  • It's a beautiful beast
I bought this card a little over a year ago and it still runs smoothly, I bought this on sale but I would probably advise you to get a 4080 instead considering they are about the same price. Either way this card served me very well with 3 more years of warranty I can say this will last me a lot longer. ... show more

  • Great card for gaming
The Gigabyte rtx 3080 is a great card. Installation was a breeze with no issues. Literally just popped in the card and was up and running latest games in glorious 4K resolution with raytracing. A worthy upgrade from my previous 2080. The card fans can get a little loud when running some of the beefier AAA games at 4K with all the bells and whistles turned on but it's nothing too noticeable during game play. One tip; use two separate PCIe plugs into the power supply. Do not use a single cable with a split adapter. I tried that at first and my machine kept shutting off due to power spikes. Once I switched to two separate PCIe cables going to the video card, all was running perfectly. ... show more

  • Worth it
In a long term investment, I believe this video card is worth the value. I have been using a gtx 480 since it's release date and played such games as GTA V with little to no lag and 30 fps on max settings. This is considerably good since that card was released in 2010. Now that I have updated to a RTX 3080, I have a firm understanding that this one will last me for another 10+ years. However, I may possibly do an old trait that I use to di and trade in cards yearly so I won't have to come up with 1k to purchase it. A very good card running with my combination of a 244hz monitor is so smooth. Virtually no frame drops or lag. They have improved the fans over the years and this one has 3 compared to only one on my gtx 480. They don't seem loud to me. I hear my cpu fan more than my gpu fans. I was also able to install Windows 11 as my previous video card was not supported. I hope my review helps. Thanks! ... show more

  • Overall pretty good
Using this for flight sim with several monitors connected. Overall pretty good, sometimes I wish the screen would refresh faster as you notice it while taxing especially at the edges. But pretty good.

  • Runs everything max settings and resolution
This card is good, good temperatures and pretty quiet, even with a full load in demanding games. The backside of the card doesn't have heatpads under the backplate where there are vrms, but thats easy enough to fix should you want to. But like I said the temperate are just fine assuming your case has good air flow. My case does and it never went above 80c. I gave 3 stars for price simply because all graphics cards are overpriced even though we're seeing reductions, but this card was the cheapest 3080 at the time, and not the worst performer either. The 12g over the base 10g is good, most games won't use that much vram but future games likely will. Solid buy if you're looking for a 3080, especially if prices keep falling. ... show more

  • Was great when it worked
I bought this gpu in may and it crashed and killed itself mid stream, on the last week of August. Now I need to do a RMA. I have never owned a gigabyte card before and this card is WAY too expensive for it to last only 3 months. Never buying this again. When it was working, it was amazing. Blew through all my games at 1440p 140+ fps (on the most demanding games I have l) and blasted through them on 4k when I actually wanted to play at that res ... show more
