  • Easily the best GPU, period.
Style: GeForce RTX 4090 XTREME WATERFORCE 24G
While I have three systems with Radeon GPUs, all of which are phenomenal, I decided to build a monster Production/Gaming system recently and while I'm usually completely content to building a full custom loop for such a machine, I decided I need something that would allow easier access to more of the internals with more easily swappable parts. Only I still wanted the benefits of liquid cooling. So dual AIOs it is. LOL. While looking around at GPUs I was torn between this and the MSI SUPRIM Liquid. This obviously won out and here's why; while both are efficient at cooling the processor directly, I learned while researching that the MSI unit has extremely insufficient cooling capabilities for the memory and depends solely on the air cooling fan directly on the card to take care of the RAM's heat instead of having this integrated into the watercooling plate like the Gigabyte has. As a result the RAM on the MSI card to reach temperatures as high as 95+ C while the Waterforce literally can't reached above 88C, even on the hotspot. This combined with its full 360 radiator was an instant seller for me. And don't go thinking you're stuck with the fans Gigabyte provides you here. You can easily pair this up with your own fans. You have three options here. You can stick with the fans provided, which are fine as they are. You can even buy an adaptor compatible with the onboard card's controller and cables. Or you can do what I did. Run them through your motherboard using a separate program to monitor you GPU's fans. Allow the GPU to control the AIO waterblock's pump and set your own fan curve to control your fans over the radiator. I use, Fan Control. It's a free full system fan control software, which I've used on all of my systems and have it set to monitor the hottest part of the GPU, the hotspot. But the great thing is I can use a mixed curve that combines, GPU, Hotspot, and Memory temps if I so choose and I get to use whatever fans I want. The truly great thing about this GPU, aside from it's efficiency/power is that it has reaffirmed my thoughts on modern day GPUs. While air cooling gets the job done, it's still just not good enough. I feel like more high end, especially RX 7900 XTXs and these RTX 4090s, should practically all be using AIOs already. The cooling capabilities massively outweighs that of air cooling and the noise reduction is just as beneficial as on a custom loop. I don't personally hate nor enjoy the sound that comes from my other GPUs, but having to hear customers and everyday people complain constantly about how loud their systems get when playing games ... that's the truly annoying part. "Is it supposed to get that loud?" Do you want to let your GPU throttle itself to death? No? Then yes. Anyway, the only thing I'll miss about making my own a custom loop is ... there just prettier. They are. But having the convenience of being able to remove this card when I need to test out another GPU or easily pop in and out an NVME is too important. Bottomline, if you're wanting a GPU for gaming an RTX 4070-4080 or even an RX 7800 XT-7900 XTX will do literally everything you'll want. Ray tracing isn't at a place where it makes sense in most PC titles right now and the performance hit is too high. But if that's your thing, go with NVIDIA. Just keep in mind you're paying what I like to call the DLSS tax. An RTX 4090 is complete overkill for all modern day gaming ... right now, at least. However, if you need something to do everything from development to production to gaming? Well this is your best bet. Couple this with a 7950X/3D and you'll be sitting pretty with work or gaming. ... show more

  • Very effective for local AI use.
Style: AORUS RTX 4090 Gaming Box eGPU
I have been dabbling in AI and wanted something the next size up from my laptop 4090 but didn't have a machine to put in a full 4090. While the bandwidth to the box isn't the same as for a gaming setup, for running local ollama and open-webui or other locally hosted AI models, I'm getting very good token rates and the additional memory allows me to use models that don't run on my laptop 4090. I'm not seeing any downsides from using thunderbolt 3/4 connectivity. Only downsides are that the box runs hot (and I'm not running it constantly like would be done in gaming, although it does get a workout, including some AI pipelines) which heat up the room, and there's an occasional rattle from the case, but I usually run it in a different room so I don't notice. All in all, happy, and got it for a still competitive price before the tarifs, new products, and reduction of production for these older models, so quite happy with the current results. ... show more

  • Haven't been able to get it to work.
Style: AORUS RTX 4090 Gaming Box eGPU
Aorus RTX 4090 Gaming Box. The fans do not come on. The 4090 GPU is not recognized by windows 11 (not showing in device manager), but the usb ports work and the led on front of the box as well. Window's Thunderbolt control panel shows the box as connected. Suport is non existant--cannot find anyone to talk to about this. I think the box is defective and will be return. ... show more

  • AWESOME for running AI Large Language Models on your Laptop
Style: AORUS RTX 4090 Gaming Box eGPU
The RTX 4090 is the best consumer graphics card you can buy to do AI and machine learning on your personal computer or laptop -- so long as you have a thunderbolt interface on your computer. With 24GB of VRAM, it's great being able to load 7-8B parameter models (quantized to 8bits) totally in memory, with full 130K context (about the size of a 500 page book). Fast af, and totally quiet. It will also handle all current video games at max settings, 1080p /60fps, which is good enough for me as I don't usually play video games. Definitely worth it if you do AI/ML or any kind of multimedia work that requires GPU acceleration. It's a deal considering it comes with a power supply, liquid cooler, and an abundance of ports for external displays and USB devices. ... show more

  • Make sure internal power cables are connected to top of 4090.
Style: AORUS RTX 4090 Gaming Box eGPU
The laptop would see the USB ports but not the 4090. I thought it was some software problem in my laptop and sent a long time work in it. I finally open the unit to try to repair it since I was beyond the return period. The graphics card didn’t have the power cables plugged in! After connecting them it has worked well. I use it to run AI models and haven’t done any serious gaming with it. ... show more

  • Works Great
Style: AORUS RTX 4090 Gaming Box eGPU
worked great, plugged it in and installed drivers worked right away, runs quiet and the thunderbolt lag isn't noticed at all when using it for LLMs and AI image generation. Just make sure you have a Thunderbolt 3/4 or a USB4 port.

  • Buggy with audio devices.
Style: AORUS RTX 4090 Gaming Box eGPU
Great for graphics but randomly cuts out audio-completely. If that happens you can reset the sample rate or temporarily switch to a different audio device, then switch back to your main audio device to fix it. Very annoying though and very frequent.

  • Super quiet but powerful
Style: AORUS RTX 4090 Gaming Box eGPU
I bought this to run LLMs like Qwen2.5 and it is blazing fast and actually really quiet. Super buy. Best value for a 4090 out there
