Hadn't tried "flats" before. I'm giving them 5 stars because there was nothing wrong with them, but I didn't like the tone of the flats compared to roundwound strings. These did not work with the "string thru" bridge, but my Hellraiser Extreme allows for a top load setup, and they did fit for that. So if you only have a string thru bridge on a long-scale bass, then I really doubt these will work. Tone? Well, roundwounds are brighter with more of a "growl." The flatwounds were more "bass-y" and thumpy. In the end, I like the growling sound of roundwounds better than the flatter, thump of the flats. Just preference. Now that I've tried them, I know I'll continue to stick with rounds from now on. ... show more

Love the feel of these and once they break in they have a nice fat smooth sound. Should have made the switch to flats a long time ago. I am using them on an Ibanez 5 string.

Purchased for backup and have no idea when I'll need them. I have the same set on both my 4-string and 5-string basses. Love them! Really do, that's not just empty words. I very much like these strings.

    • Deep and smooth but sticky and high tension.
Smooth sound, Very old school. Be aware they are high tension and kinda sticky. Sound is 60% Bass 30% Mids and 10% Highs with no tone adjustments played with fingers.
