The model is well insulated which prevents the ice from melting as fast as other machines which lack the necessary insulation. It is not necessary to remove the ice bin to add water and can easily see the water level as you add water. I find this model to be quite when making ice. My family loves the pellet ice which is just soft enough to munch plain ice, and that makes it really good if you need a no calorie snack.

The ice basket is so small??? You could barely fill a single stanley with it?? Who is this for? Mice? This thing is huge and yet it makes no space for ice collection. It's smaller than a hotel ice bucket. You would need to wait and take turns to fill a family of cups. The only people buying a 400$ ice maker are ice lovers-- people who want alot of ice. What is the point of being capable of making tons of ice if it can't build up any sort of supply of it? This was such a pain to return too.

Loved the ice from our Opal, but it was so finicky I wanted to try something else when it died after about 14 months. Several places in the manual, it warns about not turning it on until it’s been set upright for at least two hours. In one place, it mentions that it should never be tipped upside down at the risk of damaging the compressor. There is nothing on the outer box indicating which way is up, so who knows how it may have traveled on the Amazon truck. Hopefully that warning doesn’t apply to first use. It's quieter than some other countertop ice makers I’ve tried. And it only runs while actively making ice. It stops making ice when full or when out of water and only starts again when the door is opened and closed. There are slots in the bin to recycle the melted ice. Drawbacks: Ice nuggets are a little more cylindrical and crunchier and larger than Opal nuggets. My family likes it, but they prefer the chewier Opal ice. It’s hard to know where the water fill line is. The internals are black and there is no light inside, so I wound up sticking my finger in to feel for the water level. If you happen to pour water directly on the hinge area, it will spill out onto the counter. But you only do that once. The Opal side tank is much more convenient than filling the inner reservoir (but this one has the option of a water line hookup without adding extra floats and stuff.) The way the bin slides out and sits level on the door makes it tricky to get ice out with the scoop without spilling. I suppose that’s a skill issue, but I wound up using a measuring scoop instead. The flat black top surface seems to scuff easily. Ultimately, while there’s so far nothing really wrong with it, family is not happy with this after using the Opal. Much more expensive, but I’m going to try the Brio dispenser next.

i’m addicted to the soft ice and I’ve had several units that were very loud and noisy. This unit has been exceptional with sound and quality of ice making. I’ve had no issues whatsoever. It also keeps the ice cold when not in use this has been my favorite icemaker definitely worth the money

After giving it a week, we've decided that maybe it wasn't such a good purchase. Definitely does not make anywhere near the amount of ice that Gevi claims. The "buttons" don't make much sense. The "on/off" button doesn't light up when "on" nor any indication whether unit is on or off. After a couple of days of using it manually I hooked up the water line supplied and still haven't found it to be any better. We replaced an ice maker we had for an "upgrade" but it has been anything but. Will be contacting customer support on Monday but not expecting much in the way of support. Feeling like I wasted good money. Will edit review if issues are resolved.
