This remote control car is, generally speaking, fun to use. It feels well-made, including the main remote control. It has a number of features and abilities that give it a unique edge. And the basic functions are reasonably simple to figure out. One thing I wasn't a fan of was the need for 3 different battery types. The main remote uses AA, the gesture controller uses AAA and the car itself takes a rechargeable battery with a proprietary charger connector. While they do include two of the rechargeable batteries, which helps extend your playing time, you also need to use a small Phillips screwdriver to *carefully* open and close the battery door. I'm not sure what size Phillips head but I believe it's one of the zero sizes just below Ph1. Either way, you'll want to be extra careful with the screw, since it's prone to strip easily and can fall and vanish even more easily. The battery charger plugs into any standard USB port or charge block, but I don't understand why the manufacturer didn't simply allow for the use of a standardized charge cable such as USB-C. If something happens to the included proprietary charger, you're out of luck unless there's a way to obtain a replacement. The gesture and induction control functions have, thus far, been challenging to figure out. The wrist pack especially has not been consistent enough or functional enough to offer a practical control alternative to the main remote. It's possible that I just need to study the included instructions more carefully, so I won't pass harsh judgement on these features just yet, but it does strike me as more of a novelty than a viable method of controlling the car. I should reiterate that it's entirely possible I'm just not using my whole brain. Induction and gesture modes may turn out to be simple, functional and fun. The main remote controller has itself presented a bit of a challenge in the dual-function buttons that are meant to control lights, sounds, and the induction on/off toggle. Ostensibly these buttons have a long press function and a short press function, but I find that long and short presses generally yield the same behaviors. If I play around with the switches for long enough, trying different ways of pressing the buttons or even double-clicking them, usually I can achieve the desired result. This has mostly felt more like the result of luck and good odds rather than a clear path between desiring an outcome and intentionally reaching it. The instructions indicate there are also three drive modes: regular, serpentine and twist drift. These modes seem to be available only through use of the controller watch. I haven't had a lot of luck getting the watch to cooperate so I'll need to dig deeper into this functionality before I can report on it. The car struggles on lawn and carpet, and has better performance on bare floors and paved surfaces. Results are mixed on gravel and loose soil. I ran the car through a shallow puddle because I'm a stable genius, and the lights in the wheels stopped working for about a day. I'm assuming there was a connection between these two events. I allowed the car another day or so of rest and I can tentatively report that full function appears to have been restored. Overall I'm not unhappy with the toy. I've enjoyed using it in the few days I've had it so far, and so have the kids. Battery life isn't terrible. I would have preferred a different charging system and perhaps an alternative to the tiny Philips screws, but other than that I am excited to learn more about the various value-add features and functions alluded to in the instruction sheet.
