Unlike bulky squared-off pliers on many multitools, the needle-nose pliers at the center of this tool are designed for the tightest of spots. And they're spring loaded so that they open when you release your grip, which makes working with them easy, pinch free and intuitive.Other useful features hidden away in the handle of the Suspension include scissors, a bottle opener, a can opener, saw, an awl, and a lanyard ring.Safe, User- Friendly Design If you've ever had a folding knife close on your hand in the middle of making a tough cut, you'll have a special appreciation for Gerber's Saf.T.Plus system, which locks components securely in place for worry-free use.Even with this lock system, deployment is quick and easy. Gerber's user- friendly design makes it simple to access any tool that you need--just slide the lock-release button back and get set for the task at hand. This Gerber multitool also comes with a nylon ballistic-cloth sheath so that you can keep it protected from the elements when it's not in use.If you're looking for even more versatility, Gerber offers an add-on tool kit that contains an adapter, three different sizes of flathead bits, cross point bits, and hex head bits for increased functionality. Also available are several a convenient sharpening systems that can help you keep the blades on your multitool in top condition without the hassle of using a whetstone or a round file, including the DF6 Compact Sharpener and the DF8 Sharpener, which uses unique diamond fingers to acheive a perfect 30 degree angle every time you sharpen a blade (tool kit and sharpeners not included).Gerber's History of Ingenuity Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance.What's in the Box Suspension multitool and nylon sheath.

  • Sturdy
Color: Stainless Steel
I have other multi tools and Swiss army knives, but I'm pretty sure this will be my favorite. Mostly I wanted the pliers and they are nice size and grip well. The wire cutter works well too. The knife is kinda small , but pretty sharp. The scissors are sharp as well and cut though paper easily. It's always nice to have screw drivers around. I think one of the things I like the most is that the tools locks into place. No more frustration of having the tool you need move while you are trying to use it. The clip is nice and I wore it on my belt at work. Hardly noticed it was there. The clip is long too so you don't have to worry about it coming loose. Sturdy feel and not to heavy. I bet at some point I'll even use the 1 and a half inch ruler on something small. ... show more

  • Good value, decent quality, fits basic needs
Color: Stainless Steel
I picked these up to make a bunch of 6x12in "handy travel stuff" canvas pouches for myself & friends. I always end up accidentally forgetting about my multitool or pocketknife or scissors when I go through airport security, or I forget to bring or end up losing pens or a scarf or my notebook, or I end up having to use a shoelace for a makeshift clothesline when paracord would have been just the thing, or I space out bringing a lighter or a flashlight -- you know, all that stuff that you bring and lose on the trip, or stuff you forget to bring but would have ended up coming in super-handy at one point or the other, or stuff that inconsistent airport security screening will let pass in one country but clamp down on in another for some unknown reason. If I'm not traveling around on vacation or business, it'd be handy stuff to just have in the car. So it turns out that I wanted some kind of inexpensive but reliable multi-tools to put in these pouches and I spent a day looking through the options. I'd recently had a Gerber multitool confiscated by airport security in Edinburgh, so I figured that I'd check out all the other brands for a replacement, including the AliExpress chinesium ones, but when I went through the list of tools and looked at the quality of steel and construction, I kept coming back to Gerber. The value proposition of this multi-tool is really good. You get enough tools to fit most common requirements, decent steel and a reasonable (pretty cheap, all considered) price. I bought four of them. They don't need to be especially rugged, though they are substantial, and they won't likely get more than a week's use if they do become necessary. It was just the thing for my little pouches and if one should get lost it won't break the bank to replace. ... show more

  • Nice EDC multitool
Color: Grey
Well made, solid product and not as bulky as some products on the market. Occasional use for me, but a good tool for my needs.

  • Finally pulled the trigger!
Color: Grey
After having lost my G.S., I mulled-over whether or not I would buy another. Weeks went by. More research was done. Then, I decided to replace my G.S..... ...with a Leatherman Wave. ----------------- Mother's day 2010... I cannot believe this. I used my Gerber Suspension to cut a straw in a restaurant and left the dang thing on the table. Called back to the restaurant to see if it was still there, and guess what... it wasn't. I'm PISSED! It was an awesome field tool. Guess it's time to buy another ~ LOL. ----------------- (Several weeks before Mother's Day 2010...) I've been researching like crazy to find the best multi-tool for ME, and I've chosen the Gerber Suspension. Here's why... PRICE - Can't be beat unless you're buying it from Gweedo of the docks or off the back of a box-truck. SAFETY - It seems that when safety is a primary concern for a product such as this, you must sacrifice a bit of utility and functionality. No problem. I'd rather have a shorter knife plus tools that lock in place than pinched palms and blood-blisters. COMFORT - I've played around with Leatherman multi-tools, and they always leave this nagging feeling in my hand as if something's just not right. There simply is no comparison between handling the straight edges of Leatherman vs. the butterfly contour of the GS. The GS offers a far more ergonomic and "friendly" feel when being handled. Spring-loaded pliers on the GS also add to ease-of-use so I'm not using my middle finger as a "spring" as I would have with the Leatherman. EXPANDABILITY - The $8 bit kit squelches complaints about the lackluster philips head screwdriver. This inexpensive kit also helps to extend one's reach father than the Leatherman's stubby drivers. UTILITY - It's got everything a multi-tool needs. Though it would nice to have a file, I've found that the solution to this is to purchase a separate, small, flat file that fits in the case. KNIFE - One of the more attractive features of the Leatherman (Wave, Surge, TTi) is the knife. Leatherman offers a beefy knife with THOSE models, but not-so with their other traditional models. Apples to apples between the GS and standard Leatherman multi-tools proves the GS blade to be comparable. If I need to perform hardcore cutting, I wouldn't use a multi-tool blade anyway. RULE NUMBER ONE with any tool is to use the RIGHT tool for the job...ESPECIALLY if it has a cutting edge. With this in mind, the GS's knife is spot-on for mundane tasks like cutting string, cardboard, rubber hoses, cloth, etc. If I'm sharpening a stick to make it into a spear, I'd rather use a bowie. WEIGHT AND MECHANICAL - Nothing wrong here. Great weight. Rigid. Tool-draw stiffness wears off with use (as it should). Now, the only reason I give it four stars instead of five is the fact nothing deserves five stars until I've used and abused it for more than six months. I would rather come back and post glowing highlights deserving of a five-star redux after I've applied the GS to some real-world situations. So, would I ever recommend, say, a Leatherman Wave, over the Gerber Suspension? Maybe...as soon as Leatherman brings its price-point down to around $35, adds spring-loaded pliers, extends the reach of their bits, and does something about palm pinching. Otherwise, I think anyone who needs a medium-duty EDC multi-tool will be delighted with the GS. Finally, there's that issue of the GS being made in China. It sucks that it's not American made, but I have nothing against Chinese people, nor do I care to apply politics to "toolism". At least being made in China allows American small business owners to afford the wholesale cost of this product and make some money to feed their American families when people buy it. The GS is still designed by American engineers who work at an American company. Let's not complicate the issue, though. Does the GS do what it's supposed to do, offer better-than-expected performance, and do so at a great price-point? Yes. 'Nuff said. - ... show more

This is a great utility tool with a lot of versatility. The size is not too big or too small, I think it's perfect size for what it's needed for.

  • Great multitool! Great price!!!
Color: Stainless Steel
I bought another multitool from another company, I payed many times the price than I did for this Gerber, and it broke during regular use after less than two years. I debated sending it back to the manufacturer, but the cost for shipping was higher than the cost of my new Gerber. The Gerber seems stronger and of equal or greater quality. I’m super happy with it, but only through the test of time will I really know…. I’ll keep y’all posted… ... show more

  • A needed tool for camping
Color: Stainless Steel
I work at a summer camp and bring a number of these Gerber Multitools to give away as prizes for a program I conduct. It's typically one of the first items selected by campers. We offer canoe trips for children into the wilderness. They have to have the proper items to be able to do this type of canoe skills. This Gerber Tool is sturdy, offers a variety of things need for the wilderness and is priced reasonably. I used to offer this same tool that begins with an "L" but the cost factor became too much. In researching, I came across this Gerber Tool and so far have been very happy with it, and so are the campers. Compact, easily carried or packed, and has endured abuse by campers. I'd say its a winner. ... show more
