  • Better price, better shipping, better quality, better everything!!!
This drill press exceeded all of my expectations. I went to various machine tool dealers locally including Harbor Freight, and all any of them had were either products that were too expensive or had little quality (or lack thereof). When I went to harbor freight and examined the drill presses there, I immediately knew what to avoid, everything from HF So after lots of local searching and wasted time, I went looking online for an affordable version of the machine I was looking for. Surely enough I found this drill press that was similar to one of HF’s drill presses, but it had far better ratings online everywhere, it was made from better parts and materials, and had more features all for a lower price than the s*** version that HF had. So I bought this one, and when it came a week later (for free prime shipping) I was surprised to find that it was really easy to assemble (I had assembled smaller drill presses in the past). After assembling the drill press I set it up and ran it through its paces, to find out that it runs perfectly and is built to last. All expectations exceeded!!! There is a thing or two you need to be aware of: When it comes to you there are parts of the shaft that are I bit dry, so I would purchase some axel grease and a grease gun so that you can get to the parts that require some greasing. (which doesn’t cost all that much) Also, if you don’t have a place to bolt the machine down to, add something to hold it down like a sandbag or some gym weights on the base plate (25 lbs. will work just fine). Overall this drill press is perfect, it just has the problem of inadequate greasing upon arrival. Which (if you ask me) isn’t that big a deal and doesn’t affect the rating of this drill press at all. Better price, better shipping, better quality, better everything!!! 5 stars all the way, 10/10!!! ~EDIT~ I looked through the reviews and saw a couple of bad ones, but rest assured... if you experience any problems upon arrival, I'd say you were just purchasing the right thing at the wrong time. Because I didn't experience any problems apart from inadequate greasing. As one person said, it must've been a manufacturing error or something like that and they also said the chuck was a bit too small and the quality of half the parts was poor, but for me, that wasn't the case. Based on what they're saying, I think it can just be rotten luck with quite a few things. One person said the packaging was severely damaged and half the parts were practically destroyed during shipping, but I think because it was handled by USPS (like this one person said) and/or FedEx (if lady luck gives you the finger). I think this just has to do with luck Because when it came to my door UPS shipped it, and the box didn't appear to have anything wrong with it. the only packaging flaw that I saw was just some oversizing in the space of styrofoam were the chuck was placed and it fell underneath the machine in the box, but the chuck and the machine weren't by any means damaged at all and the chuck wasn't too small (extremely snug fit in the machine). the only problem I have with the chuck (which I only have with assembly) is straitness when hammered in, it's an incredibly easy fix though. Overall with machine tools like this (especially with brands that aren't well known), it can occasionally be the luck of the draw, and (if that being so) in my case I was extremely lucky. hopefully, this review is really helpful in your decisions ... show more

  • SWEET SPOT VALUE QUALITY FEATURES
Let’s face it, you could spend $51k, $82k for a drill press with runout accuracy of .000001 A garage / shop press > $250 - $4900. I considered models in the latter range from Buffalo, Central Machine, Delta, General International, Genesis, Grizzly, Jet, Ridgid, Ryobi, Shop Fox, Wen… I researched models thouroughly, right down to the parts diagrams. There are similiarilities. They all share the same basic variation of parts. They all have or lack features. The General International DP2003 added up for me. G.I. uses more upgraded parts than other brands. It has better appointments. I noticed things like the casting is part of the depth stop which I like more than models that use a bracket or dial. The cast iron base, column support and strong 2.75” column are extremely stable. The head and work table are cast iron. This thing looks like Grandpa’s bullet proof tools made in the 1950’s. It is the SWEET SPOT of VALUE for QUALITY, FEATURES What I did not want: 1. Buyers remorse or disappointment 2. Cheaply made tool 3. Loose stamped metal motor mount 4. To pay for mechanically variable or expensive ‘power surge prone’ VFD speed control 5. Complicated speed / power adjustment 6. Limited table adjustment 7. No room to work 8. Underpowered motor 9. Cheap zinc cast pulleys 10. No Parts or Support if needed What I got: 1. Over the top thrilled! 2. Well made tool A+ for casting, machining, fit and finish 3. Solid Motor mount has an easily adjustable mechanism, not an adjustable bracket 4. 16 speeds between 260 - 4220 RPM, highest range anywhere 5. Easily adjustable AND The DP2003 has two belts of the same no hassle size keeping it easy 6. Full 360 deg. rotation and height adjustment 7. 13” Swing, 6 5/8” from chuck center to column, 11 3/8” table 8. 3/4 HP motor with extruded aluminium heat sink body, cast iron end caps 9. Solid true running cast iron pulleys 10. In Stock Parts 📞 G.I. Power Products Helpful Info: I cleaned rust preventative off the bare metal with paper towels, mineral spirits. I chose NLGI 2 red grease for quill, gearing and motor pulley adjustment mechanism which results in very smooth operation. Three carrying straps on the box to carry instead of rolling. It’s 111lb box arrived no worse n’ a Racin’ Rub with it’s contents still dialed in to win, cool because It came with things pre adjusted. Shopvac for styrofoam flecks makes cleanup a breeze. Time to curb my exuberance and get back to work;) ... show more

  • Failed laser cross beams
The unit came with the laser cross beam drill point marker and one of the lasers was a dead short (there are two of them which make an X pattern). Not a big deal but that's a QC issue and they don't look easy to replace. Knocks the value down a bit as a single laser provides no value at all.

  • Poor quality control
I ordered the first drill press. Got it all assembled only to find out the Chuck would not go onto the motor shaft. It is suppose to be a tight press fit but the Chuck was .060" too small. They obviously machined it incorrectly. So I returned it with the hopes that it was a one time error. Amazon was great to process the return and when I got the replacement it had the same problem. They must have had an entire manufacturing quality issue. So the second one had to go back as well and I had to pick a different one. Spend some extra money and get a better press. They also do not double box the press and both times the press arrived with the boxes broken open and all of the small hardware everywere in the box and the main support shaft was dented so bad that the motor assembly would not go on the shaft without having to file the dented shaft to get it to go together. Don't make the same mistake I did and waste your time and money. ... show more

  • inadequately packaged
Box arrived badly damaged, styrofoam pulverized by weight of machine, fan cover on motor crushed, missing arbor. Free shipping was USPS. Everything else works and seems a good enough design.
