  • Runs and idles better than expected
The media could not be loaded. These knock off carburetors get a bad rap and a lot of times I think it is from improper application because they are one size fits all for lots of different engines, manifolds and linkages. I am fortunate that I have an OEM Carter low top BBD carburetor on my 72 Dodge truck with 318 engine and original pre egr intake that is idling and running flawlessly but seeping fuel through old gaskets and needs a rebuild. This will keep me from chasing problems that aren't caused by the carburetor and give me something to compare as far as adjustments if I need to make any. There have been lots of small changes through the years to the Carter BBD and this Geluoxi carburetor seems to be modeled after maybe even an earlier version than what my 72 truck came with. The accelerator pump is different and the vacuum slots in the bottom of the carb base are a little different. The one that was on my truck had some small holes in the throttle plates that probably served the same purpose as the expanded slots on the bottom of the Geluoxi carburetor. When I got this truck the carb base to intake gasket didn't have the slots in the ends and blocked off the vacuum slots and I had no pcv vacuum. I bought a thicker gasket with the slots in it and fixed that. Lots of people use the thicker gasket to prevent vapor lock caused by heat from the intake manifold so I kept my gasket on there. I mounted the new carb without doing any adjustments and right from the start was getting no fuel to the bowl. The needle valve that was installed in the carb was stuck to the seat so I switched that out for the one on my old carb. I took the top off of the new carb and verified I was getting fuel and adjusted the floats which were at a slightly low level. The accelerator pump plunger looked to be good quality material, the old ones were made of leather on this type of carb and this felt like a similar material. The accelerator pump bore was smooth and the pump plunger slid smoothly through it. I put the top back on and all the linkage to the choke and throttle hooked up and needed no adjustments. After slightly adjusting the fast and slow idle screws it idled smoothly and was responsive to accelerator on and off. The gas pedal operated more smoothly than with the old carb. The kickdown linkage to the transmission needed no adjustment. Out on the highway the throttle was very responsive at take off slow or fast and no stumbling or sputtering either on take off or cruising speed. There was no drop off in performance from the other carb that was running really well. If anything at cruising speed it seemed like the new carb woke it up a little and I have more head room and top end power. I will leave this carb on there unless I have some problem with it. I have another vehicle with a 318 in it so I'll rebuild my $300 Carter carb to have ready for either vehicle. If I were going to count any points off on this carb it would be from the stuck needle valve and the unknown about any of these knock off carbs. It's hard to find the correct rebuild kit for the Carter carbs but I'm not sure if the specs are the same and if one of those kits would even work in this unit. After driving with this carb though I think it is still worth 5 stars and would recommend it for any older 318 Carter carb replacement. ... show more

  • Seems to be fairly accurate and looks pretty decent overall.
I've seen mixed reviews for these off brand carburetors from overseas and I imagine some of them are due to initial tuning issues that may be encountered. It's very rare and unlikely that any carburetor will be dead on right out of the box. Adjustments will need to be made and in some cases, people are attempting to fix an issue they think was the carburetor that wasn't. Based upon my inspection of this unit it appears to be a pretty accurate replacement of the original carburetor and ultimately given the less than $70 price tag I think in some cases these are worth the gamble. (Parts, time, and labor to refurbish an original will be more.) ... show more
