When my 2-year-old BeeLink SEI12 Mini PC suddenly broke, I had to scramble to find a replacement. I purchased two replacement candidate computers and went to work on a thorough evaluation. My plan to test these two well-equipped but moderately-priced Mini PCs hit an immediate snag when the first device that I began to check out, exhibited a fatal flaw. It would turn on using the power button but could only be turned off by pulling the power plug. Poor quality control doomed that computer to a quick rejection and a return to Amazon. My second new computer candidate performed perfectly. Unfortunately, the collection of available ports and their location on the computer quickly became a liability for this otherwise excellent computer. This computer, (along with the one that arrived defective), offered only one USB-C port, and that port was placed on the front of the computer. This meant that anything that I wanted to connect via USB-C would have its cable cluttering my desk top. For my usage, the best location for a USB-C port or ports has to be on the rear of the computer. To be fair, I did not know the importance of having multiple USB-C ports or that they should be located in the back, until I started with my evaluations. I went back to Amazon with a new set of upgraded design specifications, which included two, rear-mounted USB-C plugs. My search eventually lead me to Geekom and their A-6 Mini PC. The cost was about $100 more than I had planned to spend but, after using this remarkable computer for a week, I can safely say that the A-6 is well-worth the higher price tag. Firstly, the compact design and superb construction reminded me of an expensive Swiss watch. When I opened the computer, the components and their precise assembly established an expectation of high quality. So far, I have not been disappointed. The rear-mounted USB-C ports were located perfectly. To my great surprise, one of these ports was actually a USB-4 port, offering 40gbs data speeds. I am not sure if I actually need this extra speed, but is is certainly an unexpected bonus. There would be more to come. This new computer is my first to come with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H CPU. I have been an Intel fan for years but given the great reviews that AMD has been getting lately, I decided to give this brand a try. The 6800H CPU is about 27% faster than those provided in the two previously evaluated Mini PCs. This value-packed computer also comes with 32GB RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. Both of those numbers are double what the other computers included. As you can probably tell, I am very impressed with my new A-6 computer. Given that my old BeeLink box failed after two years, (1-year warranty), I am also impressed that Geekom includes a 3-year warranty with this purchase. To me, this tells me that Geekom is very confident in the quality and workmanship of the products they sell. What could be improved in future versions of this little computer? Not much, honestly. First off, it's small but it's very capable. I'm not a gamer, just use it for web browsing, emails, etc. run LibreOffice for my documents/spreadsheets/etc. and it handles everything I've thrown at it so far. I've had this PC for just over a week now and not had any issues with it. I set it up initially with the preinstalled Windows 11 Pro 24H2 then updated it, using Windows Update, to 25H2 and no other updates were available. Not one problem. Next, I downloaded the latest Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft, wiped the drive, and installed a fresh install of Windows 11 25H2, downloaded the latest AMD/motherboard drivers from Geekom, installed them. Ran the updates, and again not one issue. Next I installed Kubuntu (Linux) alongside Windows and dual boot. Again, no problems. My Wi-Fi, NVMe, secondary SSD, and AMD chipset/motherboard were all recognized "out of the box" when Kubuntu installed. It just worked! Impressions so far: 1. For it's size it's amazing actually! it's fast, it looks really nice on my desk. It's so small I have it sitting on top of my external BD-R and the BD-R is huge compared to it. 2. Noise level is minimal. Even when updating, installing apps, etc. the fan will speed up as the CPU temp increases but not so much that it is really even noticeable. 3. It will be easy to upgrade if I ever decide to do that. It's upgradable to 64 GB of RAM but the 16 GB that came with it are more than enough for my use, but the memory sticks are easy to get to and easily replaced. I purchased the model with the 1 TB NVMe so there's plenty of "native" storage. I also had a Crucial 1TB SSD, so I took the bottom of the PC off and there is a neat little slot built onto the bottom plate just for that. I put that SSD in the PC, powered up and I use that drive to store my documents/data/etc. and not touch the main NVMe. 4. Connectivity!! The front of the PC has the following ports: Two type A USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, one of which supplies power for charging if you need it. A mini jack for headphones/microphone The back of the PC has the following ports: Three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one type A port and 2 type C ports. The two type C ports are also display ports. There is also one USB 2 type A port on the back for USB keyboards or other similar peripherals. There are two HDMI ports on the back to connect to a monitor or TV. There is one 2.5 G Ethernet port The left side of the PC has an SD card reader. It also has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth built in and from my testing they both work with no issues. The A6 is an attractive, small, relatively quiet mini PC that is probably perfectly suitable for many different purposes. Unfortunately, I have discovered that it is unsuitable for the one purpose for which I bought it: torrenting. My old HP Z4, despite its age, is literally five to ten times faster. I've come to learn that the RealTek NIC used in many mini PCs, despite its faster 2.5G rating, are no match to older workstation grade 1G NICs like the ones in my HP. For the past 20+ years I have used NUC-type computers as my everyday desktop computers so I do have some experience with them. Up until now they have all been Intel-branded so the Geekom A6 is the first with an AMD CPU. Overall Impression Setup was a breeze. The boot-up process walks you thru everything including going out to the Geekom website to get updated drivers. I initially installed Windows 10 but switched back to Windows 11 which I’m currently using. Both worked fine (Win10 drivers are available on the website). The Win11 Pro that came installed with the A6 is relatively bloat-free. I did a clean install anyway but it really isn’t necessary. I do NOT use the A6 for gaming so can’t comment on that. The Ryzen 7 6800H is a lot faster than I thought it would be. I trans-code a lot of videos (pretty CPU-intensive) and the ability to do multiples simultaneously is amazing. Both Handbrake and Format Factory utilize the AMD hardware acceleration (both CPU and GPU cores). The 32GB of DDR5 RAM no doubt helps. Fan noise is non-existent during most daily operations (surfing, word processing / Excel, watching videos, etc.). The fan noise during video conversions is there but minimal and “softer” in nature, if that makes sense. The box stays cool. All the ports work fine and at the rated speeds. All components (drivers, etc.) were recognized by Windows. There have been no software conflicts so far. Overall construction is top notch as was packaging. Not really a complaint but I would have liked one more USB 3 Gen 3.2 port instead of the USB 2 port. On the other hand, the dual USB 3 type-C ports are a bonus so I guess you can’t have everything. The BIOS is a little old-school so if you like to “tune” everything there aren’t a lot of options. All the basics are there however. Overall, zero complaints. You get an awful lot of computer with the Geekom, certainly everything required of a typical desktop computer. As mentioned, I do not use it for gaming so I'll leave that to the experts. I do use it for everything else (and then some). I have a couple of other NUC’s that are beginning to “age out” and will probably replace them with Geekom products when the time comes. It worked great for 5 months, and then the second HDMI port failed. Customer Support is terrible. After several days, the rep who finally got back to me via email, was completely non technically trained. Very polite and apologetic, but useless. I opened the case and found an extra tiny screw that had been lost in the case during assembly. This probably shorted out the HDMI port when I moved the unit. Weeks later and multiple emails back and forth, I'm still waiting for a return label. When they recieve my defective unit, they will ship me a replacement. I'm not holding my breath.
