I wanted this specifically for a little office room I built in the corner of one of my pole barns. The room is not very large. I only made it large enough to fit a desk a computer and a chair. This keeps that room perfectly cool, even when the rest of the pole barn is hot. The pole barn is insulated, and it does have its own air conditioning, but it is enormous and I don't see the point in cooling the whole thing when I'm just hanging out in the little office. Installation was easy. If you've ever installed an air conditioner before, you'll have no problems here. It easily cools the small room. However, I do wish the vents were a little bit more adjustable. You can move them left and right, but not up and down. I usually like pointing my air conditioner vents up a bit. That's just simple convection. Cold air does the opposite of hot air. Hot air rises, while cold air likes to hang out on the floor. This easily runs off of a 1000 Watt generator. I tried that just to see, and it had no problems there. Cooling just that little room with this is certainly cheaper than cooling the entire enormous pole barn.

I ordered this small window A/C unit for our upstairs bonus room, which is used as a home office. The bonus room has its own central A/C but can still get quite hot during the summer, so the GE window unit is going to be providing supplemental heat to help out the main A/C system. Installation was relatively easy and trouble free. I elected to only install the mounting screw on one side because this unit is installed in the only upstairs window and want to make sure we can push it out the window if we were to ever need to use the window as an exit due to fire or some other circumstance. Always something to consider when you are blocking a window. It still feels securely in place with the way the top bracket clamps onto the window. Nosie level is acceptable. Running on high, I measured the noise level at around 70 dB with a sound level meter positioned a couple of feet from the unit. The remote works well with no issue operating the unit from anywhere in the room. It's doing a good job so far helping keep the room cool, but the real test will be when the summer heat gets cranked up in a couple of months. I'll update the review if this unit fails to do the job.

This is a small 5000 BTU unit but it cools as if it were an 8000 BTU unit. The device is quite light, there is no need for two people to install it, it was quite simple to put it in the window of my daughter's room that faces the street and just in the afternoon the sun hits directly on her window. At first it started to work only in fan mode and at that point it began to cool the room, then the next day we put it to cool and it really cooled the room so much that you could even feel the cold in the hallway. Its digital panel is easy to use and comes with a remote control that makes it convenient to configure it according to the need. The design is elegant and discreet, it is quiet and easy to clean. It is a practical, functional and cost-effective solution. GE products are high performance and for life. Recommended.

My bedroom gets so much hotter than the rest of the house and I am not sure why, but this thing has been a lifesaver for me already. I struggle to sleep in a hot room and this gets it cooled down really quickly and keeps it cold. It's not 100% silent, but it's no louder than the fan I already use through the night so it has made no negative impact on my sleep so far. I am super happy with this!

This cools a small room great, is easy to use, and has a temp setting and remote. For the price you won't find a better deal for all of these features. It is relatively quiet but don't expect it to be silent. Overall, I highly recommend this product.

Saw this at a good price and decided to pull the trigger. Getting ready for the upcoming warmer seasons. Plugged this bad boy in to do a test and it really puts out some nice cold air. I can never go wrong with GE as it is a reputable brand and I always feel safe knowing I have been using their products for years and never had an issue. my son's room has his older one it was about 10 years old now and was starting to make some weird noises and we threw it out after the last season. This will be a perfect for his room.

The smaller amd compact size helped make it super easy to pick up and install, so no issues there. Our central is getting up there in age, so we are cutting back relying on it (and delaying the inevitable and outright replacing it) by installing smaller window units all over our house. The air output from this is as expected, it struggled badly cooling one medium-sized bedroom that we put in some standing fans to help it out. Also, it's very noisy but to be fair it isn't so disruptive that it will keep you from sleeping or watching TV. But it is loud, and it only gets better if you lower the intensity. I was hoping this could work just as good in the smaller rooms in our house as our other window units (which 3 out of 5 are from GE), but it seems like we just need a more powerful unit. If you have a much smaller living space, then these will be a perfect match for you. In the meantime, I will still use this but place it instead in one of the bathroom windows.

The installation process was not as daunting as I thought it would be. The unit comes included with a kit that made it a lot easier. The side panels were easily removable, and I could adjust them to the desired size of my window. The unit weighed enough for it to be operated by one, but a second set of hands really helped. After it was secured, the unit operated just great. I did have to check the window seal to make sure there were no leaks because that's standard with these kind of installations. The first cooling cycle was speedy, and it had the room cooled down to a comfortable temperature within minutes.
