It's hard to gauge the durability because the quality of the water from my well changes with the weather and season. I moved into a house and put one of these in initially. The label says 30,000 gallons and or 3 months. In my situation, with tons of clay in the water, it lasted almost two months before water pressure started dipping a little and the thing was incredibly filthy. I put another one in its place. About two weeks later I started smelling rust or that metallic smell in the water. The two weeks have been horribly wet since all the snow was melting and the ground has been soggy forever. I would think the well water would be better because of the higher water volume but I'm guessing the aggressiveness of the water pressure into the well kept washing other impurities into it. I swapped out this second filter with another of these and it's working great like before. I recently ordered a Culligan model which is a little cheaper to see how well that does but have another of the FXHTC filters on hand in case I need to change it again. The Culligan says 10,000 gallons and or 6 month. Weird numbers between the two models. My advice would be to don't use time as an indicator of when to change it. Use water pressure and quality of the water as a measure. Yeah, using another $30 in two weeks isn't good but the quality of the water is very important to me. I bought a new rubber gasket the first time and have reused it but keep another around just in case. It's always best to have backups around. ... show more
