  • Efficient and reliable
I bought this unit to combat the heat wave and sweltering heat. It shipped quickly and arrived. It was fairly easy to mount and install taking about an hour or so. The first few days, it didn't seem to be getting very cool. But after about 48 hours, there was a noticeable difference in the Cooling effect it was having. I think all the refrigerant needed to settle for a while before optimal usage. It seems to keep the room about 20ish degrees cooler than the outside temperature. Which, according to research, means the unit is working correctly. I like it so far. It's been running almost non-stop for an entire week and it keeps my room, hallway and adjacent rooms noticeably Cooler (even in the 100 degree heat we currently have). Registering the warranty was easy too. Give it a try. At the moment, I've been pleased with the purchase. ... show more

  • Helped my neighbor out!!! - Great Unit - for its size
We had central ac in our home- We actually bought this as a back up -why? We used to lose power a lot 3 times for multiple days - so we had purchased a few of those Lipo 4 power supplies- and I had a small generator- anyway the idea was buy a small air conditioner and cool one room like the bedroom if power went out - of course it never went out for multiple days since we bought the unit. So we never used it in our home. However- Our neighbor had a 20,000 btu unit that cooled their downstairs area installed in the wall that went bad - it was under warranty and for some reason it couldn’t be repaired- and a replacement unit would not fit - so there was a delay in this process. So being a nice neighbor I offered them this unit to put in the living room window till things were fixed etc. This unit did an unbelievable job keeping the living room and adjoining kitchen area cool in June/July/August in NJ by the way. They had a small house but that area was much larger than a 5000 btu should handle but it did. - We actually ended up selling our house and moving before our neighbors sorted out their repairs on the old unit - so we never asked me it back. Anyway the bottom line is I am not an air conditioner expert - but I recommend this one !! ... show more

  • It gets better!
At first I was very disappointed after we installed this because it took forever to cool the room. I decided to read the manufacturer handbook and it said it would take time to cool “if the room was previously hot and give it some time”. The next day on the room has been cool or cold! Love the temperature control! Great quality! ! It says it has a remote. I didn’t have a remote for my version. They had buttons on the plug but it doesn’t control the temperature just the power. It does have a noise (not too noisy) sounds like a typical AC. I don’t think it was easy to install but I guess it depends on your window and the precious ac unit. I love my new AC! ... show more

  • 6000 Btu unit vs the 5000 btu unit
Trying to review 6000 btu unit and Amazon keeps redirecting me to the older 5000BTU unit I bought previously to edit it. Why? they are not the same? I bought the "used/return" version of the 6000 btu electronic control unit for $70 off the new price. One star to Amazon for sending me an "acceptable" unit and it's not acceptable. Shipped it in a plain box with no packing so arrived with dents. Also came with no intallation kit, no remote or instructions. Not acceptable guys. Since I needed an air conditioner and since I didn't feel like hauling it back to UPS and since I don't like the fan fold side extensions, I kept it though I wish now I had sent it back and made them eat the freight both ways. As for the unit itself it"s pretty good. Keeps the bedroom at 68 degrees and the rest of the 1400sf house at 75 to 76 degrees. Runs at around 505 to 514 watts putting out 42 to 48 degree air. Dislikes: the ECO mode shuts off the unit when it reaches 68 degree set point and then doesn't restart even though the temp gets above 73 or higher. Starts immediately when switched to Cool mode. On low speed the fan is sort of loud and high pitched like its running on high when it's not. I would probably buy it again at the discounted price. As for the 5100 btu model-- I bought it to put in our bedroom as my girlfriend likes it 70 degrees while I am comfortable in 78 degrees. It's too small for the job. I have to shut the bedroom door to keep it at 70 degrees which means the central unit still comes on to keep the rest of the house at 76. I bought a "used" unit for $117. It appears to have come in original box unopened, but there was a hole punched in one side of the box and the rear coil had a flattened area on the fins about 1" x 4". I straighted the fins with a pocket knife (never had much luck with fin combs) and installed the unit with no problems. The unit runs at 390 to 460 watts which is less than previous similar units which usually run at 460 and up. It runs very quietly on low. The main beef with this one is the outlet vent doesn't have up and down vane adjustment--just side to side. Also, the new 6000 btu unit seems to put out a lot more cold air for another 60 watts or so I would probable go the the 6000btu minimum in the future. I may swap the units out to see if the smaller unit will do better in the smaller bedroom/house. ... show more

  • Bad Window Unit
I have a studio apartment and this unit did NOT do a good job of keeping it cool during summer months. Even compared to other brands I’ve used with the same BTU rating, GE falls short with this unit. And it is super LOUD. And it also sometimes smells weird. Maybe my unit was just defective, but this is a Terrible product. DO NOT BUY FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! ... show more

  • Noisy, well packaged but upside down in Amazon box, damaged and must splash water for max cooling
Ordered unit from Amazon on 7-30-24. Got it on 8-2-24. Fast. Is it a 5000 btu, 5100 btu or a 5050 btu as the placard says? It came in a very well packaged box inside of an Amazon box that was too big and had no packing to keep the A/C box from moving around. The A/C box was marked with an "UP" arrow, this side up, but was upside down in the Amazon box. I unpacked it, righted it and waited 24 hours to see if it cooled before installing it in the window. It ran, got cold, but the compressor has a whine one can hear for a long distance. It had been dropped on the left rear corner bending it and jarring a screw loose in the top center of the unit housing. Good thing it had been packaged well in its box or the damage could have been worse. The best I can tell the coils, lines, fan blades and such are not making contact with the case. After a bit of running on low cool, the unit started a pinging noise as described in the manual. It was water rising in the pan and the condenser fan was picking it up and splashing it against the right side of the louvers and outside the unit. The manual states there is a small rubber plug under the unit. Removing the plug will drain the pan of water stopping the pinging and splatter. However, the unit will not be as efficient. It won't cool as well, because the splatter helps cool the condenser coil. If that is true, the compressor should also run cooler with the splatter, but its life span might be shorter by removing the plug. This is not the way to design a cooling system. If your house is wood siding, that splatter will take a toll on it. The unit has cooling louvers to direct the cool air right and left. There is no means to direct the cool air up away from the incoming warmer air below the cool air vent. I am using this unit as climate control for a storage room. I'm not pointing fingers, but Amazon could have labeled "Fragile, This Side Up" on its box and put in packing to keep the A/C box from moving around. Why did I buy this unit? The price was low, and I have a GE 5050 K btu unit made in 2013 that is still running fine. Manufactures were using a non-flammable, R22 or the like back then and the units didn't need water splash to help them cool properly. I should have spent a few more dollars and got better unit. Except for the above, the unit is fine for my purpose. I would not want it in a bedroom or any lived in space. If it lasts a season or two, I'll be surprised. Just my two cents. ... show more
