I've had this cover for about a year. Here is my summary. The Good: -The cover installs relatively simple. No need for special tools and was finished in an hour. -The black-painted aluminum panels appear to hold up well against the weather, are reasonably sturdy and secure the bed contents well. -Only minor water leaks around the tailgate, which will be discussed in the following section. -The aluminum blocks for mounting are pretty robust. The design and quality of fasteners is another story. The Bad: -The hardware package was missing a shim. Contacted the manufacturer - no response. -At highway speeds, the cover resonates and chatters in the wind. -The cover mounting mechanism relies on the bed's folded metal fins on the underside of the truck bed's edges for support. In the new Chevy Silverado, the bed fins are way too flexible and cause an inward tilt of the rails. Consequently, the cover drops in elevation into the bed a bit. After opening the tailgate with the cover in place, the tailgate will not close unless you "pop" the cover upward to create clearance. Then the cover will eventually cut into the tailgate top edge while driving. I contacted the manufacturer - no response. -The hardware includes plastic screws for use in the sturdy blocks. Needless to say, these screws are junk. -The "recoil" action of the cover does not automatically retract. It only "coils" up in a huge can near the bed of the truck when the cover is pushed to the open position. You have to manually push/pull the cover to the open/closed position. Slightly misleading in the product description. Overall - There are much better options for the price. If you want a product to damage your truck through a poor design, then by all means purchase this model. I would have returned the product if I was still within the return window. ... show more

I chose this cover because I didn’t want to worry over the additional complications of a spring or a motor. It works great and feels like an industrial garage door. Installation is fairly easy. I did it ialone. I will caution that if you are a DIYrr and generally don’t read the instructions for anything, it will save time to go through these a couple of times because if you miss something it will result in a lot of disassembly. Ask me how I know! I had one part problem, so I called realteuck and they shipped me another small piece, no problems. The cover is quiet at all speeds and does a great job. It arrived well packaged. Everything you need is in the box except one bit driver (screwdriver or drill). I got mine on sale, but having seen how nice it is, I would pay full price. ... show more

Going to give this an initial review of 4 stars after installation. In the end the product works...which I'm happy with. I think it will keep things mostly secure, but there are a few things that are pretty wonky. For starters the physical instructions are completely different than the installation video on the RealTruck website...a combination of them worked for me. Secondly the nylon lock nuts that slide into the side rails aren't properly sized and end up gouging the aluminum walls and rotating in the channel. It's infuriating. Getting the nylon loosened up by threading and unthreading the bolt pre-install helped a bit. I also ended up wrapping some of my nuts in metal tape to fill the gap some. This lost it a star for sure...there should be only enough tolerance there to let them slide back and forth...rotating isn't right. Beyond that the clamping system to the actual bed is a bit clunky and doesn't seem to provide even pressure no matter how precise you're attempting to be. I don't anticipate this to be weather tight at all, and the worst part about that is the drain tubes provided are too big for the drain holes in the bed, despite this being an "exact fit" for my truck. The cover itself is great but the install still is not right. I have googled and searched and watched tons of videos but one side hits the tailgate cover. It works great but I hate that it scraped up that cover. If you are short, like me, it’s hard to reach the pull to open it.

I liked the difference in driving performance while we’ve had the bed cover on. It’s also helpful to have piece of mind that anything left on the bed is safe. Great quality, and worth to have the retractable feature. You need two people to install and takes about an hour to put on your truck. This is my 3rd Gator cover and definitely my last. The first two were great and I’ve recommended them to friends. This one was a huge pain to the A. The 20 minute install is more like a 3 hour blood pressure explosion. This company has went downhill. First, the rails weren’t even completely painted, had to spray the last 6” of both with a rattle can. One rail was bent, I was able to beat it back to almost straight. The lock nuts used to attach the stops bind inside the rails or turn inside the rail with any amount of pressure. The drain tubes don’t snap into the holes and stay put, just fall out. It’s about an inch short of the tailgate. And probably the most infuriating part, there’s two tiny little screws that go in the top of the end cap. If you drop one, you are screwed. Not finding that one. Would it bankrupt the stinking company to throw me one extra screw! They’re tiny man, come on! This thing is not worth $1k and I’m not spending my life taking the thing back off and sending it back, it’s way too big. So nice job Gator, you got me. Ripped me off just as planned. But hear this, I will never buy anything from you again and I will advise everyone I know to avoid Gator as well. ... show more
