Description

Recoil by Gator is a retractable truck bed cover constructed for the ultimate in durability and bed security. Its tough, aluminum slats are held together by a strong elastomer hinge to eliminate any water and debris from entering your truck bed. To top it all off, the aluminum is powder coated with a textured, matte-black finish to preserve your truck bed from scratches and corrosion. Operating this cover is simple; unlock via an easy, quick release handle conveniently located on the driver side of the vehicle. TLDR: Good product on first impressions, Best value I could find. Bought a newer truck and have never used a tonneau before other than the hard one included on my old Avalanche. Struggled to decide between a "cheap" soft cover or should I pony up the full $1000-$1500 to get that really nice hard cover that apparently still leaks... Soft covers go for anywhere from $130-$700 and didn't seem to have that much difference to make the price difference so great. Almost bought a super cheap no-name soft cover, but ended up finding this at the last moment. Gator is a brand I recognize, but have zero experience with. The positive to negative review ratio was similar on this to other more expensive soft covers, so I went with the not-quite bottom priced Gator for a little better chance I'd be happy with it. If I was going to spend $500-$700, I would have just got the $1k hard cover. This thing was easy to install by myself in 25min with a socket wrench and 2 sockets. I opened my tailgate, positioned the side rail on one side, and closed the tailgate. That held the side rail in position while I installed the clamps. No extra hands needed. The rest is easy as can be. This thing looks nice, appears as durable as one could expect a soft cover to be, rolls and secures easily, tension is easily adjusted, lays nice and low-profile, and hasn't let any water in yet. We will see if time treats it well. If it fails within the next few years, I will update this review. 12/20 EDIT: High pressure automatic car wash gets some water in there, though not a large amount. 10/2023 EDIT: (Photos are from 2023) Still holding up well 4 years later. Velcro still holds. Cleans up well. Only down side which may be my fault is the seal on the back tucks into the tailgate now. I'm not sure it's *not supposed to do that, but that's not how it was for the first couple years. Still seals out most of the water in a heavy rain or car wash, and I'd still buy this one again. Overall I like this cover. It was a breeze to install by myself. Definitely read the instructions all the way through before you begin as their instructions are a little out of sequence when it comes to the clamps and stops. My only issue was the fit at the tailgate. I had to shim the right side to get it to clear the top of the tailgate so it would close without clashing with the cover’s rail end plate. NOT completely water tight so if you’re hauling something that can’t get wet you’ll need to put it in a water tight container or bag. It does a fair job of keeping water out but not nearly perfect. I have a 2015 gmc with a factory bed liner. Cover fits perfectly and I didn’t need to cut anything. Some reviews stated cover was noisy on freeway, I haven’t noticed that at all, and I’ve put hundreds of miles on freeway in heavy wind conditions. I did tightened all four hold downs to a firm fit, I’m thinking some people left hold downs to loose. This product is fantastic, bed stays dry and for $200 bucks what more can you expect. Wish I would have gotten this years ago. Install took 5 minutes by myself. Truck looks nice with cover and keeps my tools dry. I have had trucks with caps but caps limit what you can haul. If your tailgate locks it’s more secure as you can’t open cover without tailgate down. I’m installing a lock on mine. Cover repeals water nicely, before winter I am spraying with a leather repellant to protect it in cold winter months. Amazon delivered product undamaged to my front door as always. Great product for the cost. Other local companies wanted over $500 for similar product. Gator truck accessories are far superior to other brands. ... show more
