The Gator Recoil fits perfectly on my 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn. It's very sturdy and appears very durable. It can be installed easily by one person and it takes roughly about an hour or so because of having to measure the unit perfectly so that it's centered properly on the bed of your truck. I made the mistake of following a YouTube video for installation. What the YouTube video doesn't tell you is that there is an extra step for certain trucks, especially my truck. For my particular model truck, there are extra rails that come with the unit that need to be affixed to the front of the bed to help center the Gator unit to the top of the truck's bed. Initially, I thought the width of the Gator Recoil Retractable Truck Bed Tonneau Cover was too short for my truck because from left to right, the spacing of my truck's bed is 65-1/2 inches. The Gator Recoil Tonneau unit is also 65-1/2 inches. I called "RealTrucks", who apparently handles all questions and concerns for Gator products, and the the rep, who was extremely friendly, explained that in the installation manual, on page 7, there is an extra step that I would need to follow after completing step 3. After learning that, installation was a breeze. Just one other tidbit that I would like to share for anyone who is deciding to purchase this product... there is a white plastic spacer that is about 1/8 inch thick. That is used to help you set the rails close enough to the tailgate so that you have that perfect seal when your truck bed is closed. If the rails are too far away, there is a gap. If the rails are too close to the tailgate, the lip of the tailgate will have a hard time closing. There is a diagram in the manual that isn't very clear, but as soon as you get to this particular step, all of it will make sense. I wish I took pictures of what I'm trying to explain and I wish I could try and take pictures of it now, but I lost that little white plastic spacer. My bad. Compared to a lot of the other retractable tonneau covers that I've seen, the Gator is one of the best ones out there for the price. ... show more

The written instruction were not very clear. Setting the box in the right place and verifying the both sides are fit the same is a must. The end caps and screws are essentially useless and pop off each time you close the tailgate.

The cover sent to me was too small for truck despite being the model recommended by the manufacturer. It was also listed as new, the box was opened and had clearly been returned already. There was a drawing in the parts bag (like a drawing of people that someone stuffed in there), no instructions, the canister was dented and it was so narrow it wouldn't sit on my bed rails. Best bed cover you can get. Way better than the 3 piece tri fold style. Rolls up extremely easily. Install was a little tricky at times but that’s more because I got ahead of myself in the instructions. Follow the instructions step by step and you’ll be fine. 10/10 would recommend

    • Good cover but......

I got this cover and got in just a few days. I am mechanical inclined which helped with this install. It appears that the tapped holes for the 4 screws that are needed per the instructions were not drilled or tapped very good. I ended up stripping 2 of the bolts and breaking one of the very small ones' that went into the cap ends. I had to drill it out and retap the holes with new screws. More of a pain really, but if your spending 1k for a retractable cover these items should be inspected and deemed good to go from the factory. Once I got passed that, and got everything lined up, cover operated just fine. I was struggling a bit in the instructions as I was trying to see if the cover should go on top of the tailgate, or just seal up against the tailgate. I left mine to just seal up against the tailgate, and will reach out to Gator for the answer on that one. Will update again after I put some time on this cover. ***Update*** Called Gator Support and the answered my questions with no problems. One other suggestion I thought of was to go to the Gator website and ensure you get the right number for your application. Amazon has an error on the call out for a new body style Vs. classic one. This question only applies for 1500 Ram's not the 2500 series or 3500. Yes, plugged in the data amazon asked and it sent me the wrong cover. Had to confirm what part number I really needed with Gator and then ordered the correct one on amazon. Hope all this info helps... ... show more
