Clamp is controlled by turning red knob.3.Rotate yarn guide so loop end faces upward. Pull it out as far as it will go.4.Yarn to be wound should be supported on a swift to allow uniform transfer. Feed end of yarn through yarn guide and secure in notch on top of spindle. Yarn is easily placed through guide by simple wrapping it, in a clockwise direction, around the end coil.5.Turn handle clockwise, forming the yarn into a ball. It makes a rather loud rattling sound as you wind your yarn so I'm always worried about bothering my neighbors (I live in an apartment). The wire part that is meant to hold your yarn up into the correct spot to be wound often falls if you're not also holding your yarn straight through it. It is really frustrating if your yarn gets tangled up in the gears when the wire piece falls. If you haven't used a yarn winder before, keep in mind that it keeps the yarn cakes looser than yarn balls, but at least then they are stackable. It also helps to keep the yarn from being strained while in storage, which is a positive. I've resorted back to just winding my yarn into balls because it tends to be easier and I feel that it keeps my yarn more organized. I do love the assortment of pom makers, as I didn't have any before and these are very easy to use. ... show more

I bought this as a gift for my mother. She loves it and uses it often. Although you do have to be careful because it metal loop falls down sometimes when you are winding the yarn.

I love this yarn winder. Only problem was a piece had come unscrewed in shipping and it was hard to put back in. Other than that it's great. Gets the job done.

    • Works Great! 2 Things though-
This works amazing! There are two problems though that you can easily fix with some hot glue 1. The wire feeder thing will pop out of place a lot, so I glued the thing in place and now it wont fall out. 2. The bottom of the winder moves around a lot on the table when clamped down. I discovered its cause it has no grip, so i made a few lines of hot glue on the bottom and let that dry. So now it has grip and doesnt move! ... show more

I love almost everything about this thing. It is a pain to clear tangles and the wire to hold the feeding yarn does not want to stay in place. I have a LOT fewer issues when I hang it from the side of my craft cart, then when I clip it to a table. It seems to hold more yarn without tangling as easy or as often. ... show more

This product is pretty decent at its price, although it is not very stable. The base gets loose easily and has to tighten frequently.

    • The KnitPicks one is better.
The little arm is super loose and causes the yarn to jump and wrap around the gears. You have to hold the arm and wind incredibly slow just to get a decent looking cake. I really only got this because my knitpicks one broke and this one included pompom makers. It would have been a better decision to just buy the knitpicks one again because it’s so much better and didn’t have as many problems. ... show more
