Update: after 4 nights I think we have reached an accord: I knew it was possible for the machine to run quietly because it ran for several hours in my living room that first day and I never heard anything more than the fan sound. So I believed that the carpeting in the bedroom was a problem. I eventually found a piece of fiberboard in the garage and I put that under it. It didn't help much. A friend of mine brought over a 2-ftx2-ft piece of scrap plywood and we put that on top of the cement board. Eventually after 2 nights and Much trial and error I discovered one specific spot/ direction in which it will sit perfectly still for the entire night and not rattle. The unit works brilliantly at cooling my bedroom while I can leave the main house thermostat @ 80° at night. I generally turn it on high and close the bedroom door and hour before I go to bed. Then I just leave the bedroom door open enough for the cat to come and go. Last night I woke up a couple times and wondered why it was so loud...then this morning I realized I'd left it on high all night. It is a pain that you have to work so hard to stabilize it. But if you can accomplish that, I think it's a great little machine for the money. I've been running it on cool for 4 nights and still have not had to empty the water. Am upgrading to 4 stars. If it wasn't such a pain to stabilize, I would definitely give it five stars. ......... I bought this item for use in my bedroom. It gets extremely hot in that room during the day and it never cools off at night. I was looking for an alternative to turning the AC for the entire house down just to get that one room cool. Item was received yesterday. Is VERY heavy and hard to get up a flight of stairs alone. Set up of the machine was fairly straightforward but directions for the window adapter are a Joke! Screws are mislabeled, directions are so small and faint as to render them useless. Fortunately, there are not that many parts so it can be figured out, although there is one screw that doesn't fit anything. As a trial run I set it up in the living room. It is not strong enough to cool that large area but I just wanted to get an idea of what I was dealing with. It ran for several hours, perfectly quietly, while sitting on a hardwood floor with a low pile rug on it. I was very pleased. Although the "hose" ends pop out of both of the adapters fairly easily...which is a pain. I then moved it into the bedroom and installed it in its permanent place. The casters move very easily on hardwood or short piled rugs however it is extremely hard to move on a carpet with any kind of pile. Would be much easier to move with two people. However I'm not planning on moving it around the house so that's okay. Set up in the bedroom was fairly easy. I turned it on and went to bed. It cooled nicely for a short while, and then all hell broke loose. It started rattling very badly. Very badly. Which was followed a few minutes later by an uptick in rattling even more badly. It literally sounded like someone was using a jackhammer outside my bedroom window. I was stunned I moved it around but it didn't help. I cut up the original packing box and put two of the hard pieces under it, hoping to stabilize the foundation and stop the rattling. Didn't help a bit. Clearly turning the machine off and on 20 times during the night is not a viable option. Eventually I discovered that the terrible rattling does stop a little when the machine Powers down slightly. But as soon as it rotates back up the terrible rattling starts again. On the positive side, it did keep the bedroom very cool during the night with the door mostly closed (left open a few inches so the cat can come and go). About 5am I found some earplugs and I did get to sleep even with the obnoxious jackhammer sound. But it woke me up multiple times during the night. Clearly this option will work so that I don't have to run the whole house air conditioner on freezing just to keep one room cold. But I am not sure I can deal with the rattling long term. Although I'm not particularly happy with this it is too heavy to try to return.....even if I hadn't already cut the box up. So I guess I'm out $200 for a jackhammer that cools the bedroom.

Arrived broken. The part to install into the window arrived broken. I opted for a partial refund instead of having to send back the entire unit. I will say, it cools things off surprisingly well. My place is small about 1080sq ft and I had to plug this up in my guest room due to the length of the window piece. I’m in my living room and it has dropped the temperature considerably. This is my first day using it, but so far the unit itself works well, it just arrived with broken parts.

I ordered the 8,000 BTU one for my son’s room since our whole central ac unit went out and needs to be replaced, and it worked so good I ordered another one for my room! Within minutes my room was so cold and comfortable to sleep now! Just wish the hosing that goes out the window was longer and more flexible so I can turn it left or right.

Not happy with this AC. Its blowing hot and cold air. Its too loud and not cooling room at all. Its not AC its a just fan blowing warm air. Really upset. I sujest not to buy any air conditioners from amazon. Why amazon sells such junk

Let me start off by saying that it does accomplish what I bought it for, keeps my room nice and cool, and in the long run I am happy with it. However it is nosy as many others have pointed out. I went ahead and got this one anyways as I didn’t think it would brother me while sleeping. I do have to greatly increase my tv volume in order to hear it over the noise of this ac, which is not ideal. The major frustration for this ac unit was the installation. Pretty straight forward however in order for it to work with my window, the instructions wanted me to cut one of the window sealing plates, which is made of a hard plastic. So unless you have a saw that can cut through hard plastic you might need to improvise and use cardboard to seal the window the rest of the way as I had to.
