  • It's a pretty good watch with a few issues
Color: Instinct 2 (Electric Lime) Non-Solar Size: 45 MM Style: Instinct 2 Pattern Name: Watch
To be honest, I don't like watches. My entire life, I've never been keen on wearing rings, necklaces, watches, or adornment of any kind. However, I play a *lot* of disc golf, and UDisc (an essential disc golf app for scorekeeping, finding courses to play...that sort of thing) works with Garmin smartwatches and apple watch only I believe. Now, I don't like watches, but I want to easily keep score without having to pull my phone out of my bag after every hole. And on that front, for the sole reason I bought this watch, it is a massive success and I couldn't be happier. I chose this watch - 45mm electric lime non-solar - because I wanted something with a little bit of color to offset the almost uniformly dark clothes I wear and I don't have a problem plugging it in for an hour once every two weeks or so (the GPS while playing chews through battery life). I chose the Instinct 2s because I wanted something a bit more rugged. I don't want to be terrified I'm going to break it. As for the only negative I am aware of, the heart monitor is *wildly* inaccurate, at least while wearing it where a watch as far as I'm aware is typically worn - on the back of my wrist. I was just going for a brisk walk and I pulled up the Garmin Connect app and I was shocked to see how my heart was up over 130bpm. Now, I'm trying to get back into shape, but there was a time not so long ago where I worked out regularly, and I know what that feels like, and it didn't feel like my heart was going that fast. I stop walking immediately, put my fingers up against my carotid artery, and say, "Hey Siri, set a timer for 15 seconds". 19...20...21...<beep>....22. So, between 84 and 88 bpm. Why does the watch still have me up over 120? I don't know if I should flip the watch over to the inside of my wrist or what if I want accuracy there. One thing I do know, though, is to not take this thing's word as gospel when it comes to my heartbeat. Going to buy a dedicated monitor for that. This watch is great on the disc golf course, though, which is why I bought it, so I'm happy with this purchase all the same. ... show more

  • Doesn't work for tracking Treadmill Walking
Color: Instinct 2 (Graphite) Non-Solar Size: 45 MM Style: Instinct 2 Pattern Name: Watch
Overall I'm happy with the Instinct 2. I really like the looks and ruggedness of the watch as well as all the info that I can have constantly displayed including up-to-the-moment heart rate. My main frustration is that it won't track walking on a treadmill. From doing a search on the internet it seems that many people have this issue with Garmin's watches. Walking on a treadmill is my main type of exercise and I really wish it would work. I've tried using the "Walk" activity but that won't count distance because it is basing it on GPS apparently. So I made an activity by duplicating the Walking activity with GPS off but this counts only about a tenth of the distance that I walk on the treadmill (the same when I test it by walking outside with GPS off, though it counts my steps correctly) and the other 9/10's as stopped. So I tried the 'Treadmill Running' activity but it count's 90 percent of the time that I'm walking (with hands swinging naturally at my sides of course and not holding the handholds) as "Idle" even though I'm walking at 3 miles an hour. Thankfully walking outside with the normal "Walking" activity with GPS on is very accurate but in the winter I'm not able to walk outside everyday. I've even manually entered my walking stride into the app in case that made a difference but it didn't. Again, overall it's a good watch, however, being that I mainly walk on a treadmill it's not as ideal as I'd hoped. ... show more

  • Great Watch, Screen is Difficult to See
Color: Instinct 2 (Graphite) Non-Solar Size: 45 MM Style: Instinct 2 Pattern Name: Watch
So far I’ve only tested the Instinct 2 basic for 4 days with my basic workouts & sleep tracking. It’s been cold & snowing where I live, so I’ve not been able to test it with cycling outdoors. With all the abilities that this device has my biggest issue with it is it’s screen. It’s a bit washed out when looking at it from a normal glance & I find myself having to twist my wrist in order to look at it at what I believe is 90 degrees straight on. Someone sitting opposite of me can see the screen just fine and it does look very crisp to them! I tested this observation & sure enough if you turn the watch upside down it looks very good/solid. I’m hoping that this is not a defect because this is my first Garmin fitness watch/tracker. I will update my review later when I have had more experience with it, but as of now I definitely have to give it less than 5 stars because the screen is hard to see especially in the dark with the backlight. It appears to be washed out even more unless you look at it from the opposite angle/upside down with the backlight on. The companion app (Garmin Connect) is excellent for keeping track of your stats/progress and the other app (Connect IQ) allows you to change watch faces and updates to the Instinct 2 in real time. Also, as of November 10th, I’ve had the Instinct 2 basic for 7 days. I got it on sale for $299, but it’s now $249 as of November 17 (I guess I should have waited a week). $249 is a great price for the Garmin Instinct 2 Basic, so grab it while it’s discounted if you’re in the market for one!! ... show more

  • Don't mess with anything else... Ever!
Color: Instinct 2 Solar Tactical (Coyote Tan) Size: 45 MM Style: Instinct 2 Solar Pattern Name: Watch
I've owned all the smart watches and I wish I never wasted any of the money and just bought this. The battery life and solar add is just amazing. I got 10-12 days with everything on. It just works I forget it needs to be plugged in... first and foremost it is just a great watch and it smart features are the best. The GPS accuracy. Sleep, stress, heart rate... just far more accurate than the others in my experience. I wish I never wasted money on Samsung, Apple, OnePlus, Fitbit I should have just gotten this guy! ... show more
