  • Works very well as display unit for my Garmin RVR 315
Style: Device Only Pattern: GPS Bike Computer
I bought to use exclusively as a display unit for my life saver , the Garmin RVR 315, although the unit has many other functions . I used the Garminiq app to install my bike radar traffic app , then entered the setting to display the vehicle relative , absolute speed and distance . I created a screen contains only the data , so numbers appear large and easy to read . I deleted and deactivated all other data . I took it out for a few rides and worked like a champ , alerting my to the vehicles , and the speed , relative speed and absolute speed for vehicles behind . I am also using the live tracking function , so my family track my progress while I am on the road biking . The unit has numerous functions , but I am using the cyclometer iPhone app with a polar H heart rate monitor for every thing else . Make sure to have the Garmin connect app running on your phone . After the ride , you can use the Garmin connect app to view your ride with a ton of data and stat . I love it , it was worth every penny ... show more

  • Great improvement over the Edge 800
Style: Device Only Pattern: GPS Bike Computer
I replaced my ailing Edge 800 with an Edge 830. I’m pleased that the 830’s display is far more readable on my morning rides when the sun is low in the sky—a welcome improvement. Bootup, GPS acquisition time and battery life are improved, too. The internal maps are amazing. I’m surprised to see the detail of our local riding paths (not streets). One gripe: The main display shows distance, large and very readable, but speed is displayed in a much smaller font. With old eyes and vibration, it can be hard to read. There’s plenty of room on the display to make fonts larger. Why not? Operation is semi-intuitive but you can get lost among all the menus and widgets. The printed manual is no help as none of this is covered. Go on-line for complete descriptions. To find features that are buried deep in menus, search the internet… “Edge 830 [your desired feature].” The Garmin Connect phone app has lots of fancy features to encourage your riding activity such as earning “badges” for your progress. Here again, it’s easy to get lost among all the features and menus. The app connects via Bluetooth to the 830 during and after a ride. If you’re a gadget geek, you’ll love it. If not, you might consider a more basic model. For a very complete review and description of features, search the web for “dcrainmaker Edge 830.” This impartial review compares the 830 with other models and has many screen photos. ... show more

  • Another Great Garmin Product
Style: Device Only Pattern: GPS Bike Computer
I am a Garmin fan. I have the Edge 840 and now the Edge 830. I use the Edge 830, mainly for my indoor resistance trainer. It works terrific. When I use it outdoors, it grabs the GPS signal very fast. No waiting around. I love it. Screen is easy to read. Touch screen works great. I replace an Edge 500 that I had for 11 years, and this unit is a total dream, compared to my old Edge. I am still working on learning all the setup stuff. Hopefully I will get all the settings and programming down pat soon. It does sooooooooo much, it is crazy. Anyway, I highly recommend. I just love it. Garmin is the standard! ... show more

  • Enhanced Cycling Experience
Style: Device Only Pattern: GPS Bike Computer
Perfect for both MTB and road cycling, this device is excellent for keeping track of your performance. My primary motivation for purchasing it was safeguarding my phone from potential damage while riding, especially when relying on GPS. The compatibility with cadence and power meters is a game-changer for serious cyclists, allowing you to monitor your riding in-depth. While I initially leaned towards using mobile apps for navigation, updating the device with Garmin's 2023 cycling maps significantly improved the experience. The older version (the one pre-installed) caused route-recalculation errors on my first two rides, forcing me to stop and reselect the destination, and giving me a hard time. However, with the latest maps, the navigation has become much smoother and hassle-free. I wish it has the defined compatibility with SRAM shifters, the Shimano DI2. It still can pair with SRAM but I wish their update and complete compatibility. ... show more

  • Road biking, everything you need Garmin support, second to none
Style: Device Only Pattern: GPS Bike Computer
I did alot of research before deciding on this unit. It has way more features then I’ll ever use but that means it has everything I need. It is a bit of a struggle to setup. For some reason the Bluetooth pairing initially kept failing. A simple reboot of both phone and garmin fixed the issue. The touchscreen works fine but is a bit slow to respond to touch. Not terrible though. Battery life seems good enough but I imagine about 8 hours of use is the most you’ll get out of a new unit. I’d recommendation charge after every 5 hour ride or so. I only road bike these days. I use Strava routes, the map features, and a HRM. for my display I have mph, distance, time riding, HR, and 5 mile laps. Uploading courses/routes from garmin connect and/Strava is easy. The map feature has worked flawlessly for me and let me know if upcoming turns with plenty of advanced notice. It even warns of upcoming sharp curves. The notification alerts is a bonus. Seeing texts come in and knowing weather or not I need to pull over to respond is a nice feature. The emergency feature is nice as well. I accidentally sent an emergency response while trying to turn the unit off and my family responded immediately. Oops. Unfortunately, after my third ride with this unit, I dropped it and the upper left corner of the screen cracked. While I had no issues with the unit and it’s functions, I was concerned about water seeping into the unit and destroying it. I emailed garmin support to let them know I would be willing to pay to have the screen replaced. They responded very quickly and said they would cover the unit under warranty. Wow!! That my friends is how you do it. Can’t say enough about garmin support. Top notch. Had a replacement unit in my hands within 10 days. They have my business ... show more
