  • Nice durable gps for geocaching and hiking
I have a more expensive GPS that has wifi too. However not only is the etrex 32x lighter. It is also extremely durable. Sure I need to manually download caches and waypoints. But for geocaching and hiking I love the lightweightness and ultra long battery life. I always bring a pair of extra new batteries but knowing these batteries last a long time definitely gives me comfort I won't need more than 2 extra new batteries. I also recommend the Velcro backpack attachment at least for geocaching. This unit seems to hold over 2500 caches at a time at least which is why I needed to upgrade from my etrex 30 version 1 which would freak out with 1000 caches even with extra memory. I think this one can hold thousands more but I didn't want to push it too hard right away. So bottom line is I've hiked about 20 miles with the etrex 32x and the lightweightness and battery life won me over despite the slightly wonkey interface. Note that I have tweaked the interface and made things pretty efficient at this point. So if you spend some time with the unit you should be able to get it dialed in pretty well so it is pretty usable on the trails. One more thing... I will usually use some combo of my smart phone and GPS for finding caches. But when I get to gz I switch to the etrex because it is much more accurate within the final few feet than my phone which makes caching that much more fun when I don't doubt where I am looking at least. ... show more
