My wife and I have been avid postage-stamp gardeners for the past 35 years. Nearly every weekend you can find us tending our vast array of vegetables and herbs. The past few years, though, age has crept up on us and many body parts on both of us have begun to complain, mostly knees and lower back. My wife has considerable difficulty standing up from a kneeling position, even when I lend her a hand up. I had to do something. Watching her struggle in pain led me to think that there has got to be a better way, something that will make gardening pleasurable again. I did a considerable amount of research on various pads, scooters, kneelers and others in an effort to find the best solution. Simple foam pads that you toss on to the ground were right out. While compact and portable, they offered no leverage when you attempted to rise from a kneeling position. Garden Scooters on were right out. Postage stamp gardening does not leave much room for a wheeled device (plus we have pavers for when we want to collect herbs or vegetables and it is muddy), and having only a sitting option meant lots of bending over at the waist...too much pain. Garden kneelers seemed to be the direction to go. Given the fact that they were flippable from kneeler to seat meant that my wife could take a breather right there in the garden without having to navigate to the patio. I researched further into the kneeler option. Too many, it seemed, were flimsy. The thin tubing, narrow seats, or inferior coatings all made the garden kneeler option less attractive. My wife and I are no longer the svelte go-getters we once were, and age (and homebrew) has packed on a few pounds, so we needed something that was sturdy. Then I ran across the Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler from Gardener's Supply. Compared to all of the other kneeler options, this product appeared to be the sturdiest bargain. After reading every review I decided that this would be my choice. I pressed the "Add to Cart" button and awaited its arrival. The Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler arrived in five business days. The packaging was double wall corrugated cardboard (there was no fancy full color retail-type box). The packaging was undamaged and well sealed. The box was surprisingly heavy. Opening the package revealed the kneeler wrapped in plastic. I removed the kneeler from the box and plastic and carefully inspected it. The Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler is respectably beefy. The metal tubular framework is heavy and thick. It is coated in a nice thick layer of green enamel, which if properly cared for, should keep rust away for a good long time. The two legs unfold with some effort and the locking mechanisms securely snap into place. I am still impressed by this product. It is hefty, but not so heavy that my wife cannot tote it with her into the garden every day. Flipped into the seating position, the seat is a fairly dense foam that gives a little bit, but not too much, i.e., it gives nice support. Considering the fact that when in the garden it will sink a bit into the dirt when sat upon, the height is perfect for my wife's leg length. Flipped into the kneeling position, the foam pad for kneeling is fairly squishy, but not so much that you feel as if you are going to go through it. While not as squishy as some types of foam kneeling pads, it still is a far cry better on the knees than the ground. The legs allow my wife sufficient leverage to rise to a standing position without any other help. The locking mechanism for the folding legs operates easily, and the Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler folds nice and compact for storage in our redwood potting shed. One observation I had is that the user needs to be cognizant of how they use the legs for leverage. If you push outward as you push downward you are placing considerable stress on welds and the locking mechanism. This seems to be an inherent factor in all garden kneelers of this design. Increase the life expectancy of the product by only pushing downward when you are rising from a kneeling position. Both I and my wife are very pleased with Gardener's Supply Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler. It is saving both of us from considerable pain, and allowing us to fully enjoy our garden. I will be purchasing another Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler for myself. Thank you Gardener's Supply. UPDATE December 2015: After over nine months of use nearly every weekend, both of my Wide-Seat Garden Kneelers show little wear, and are holding up beautifully. The enamel is still holding up quite nicely, especially where it is in contact with the dirt and rocks. The padded seat/kneeler is still as comfy as ever. I highly recommend this product, and I would give it 10 stars.

Had one of the originals I had inherited. This one's an improvement on an old standard. It folds easily for hanging. The pads are particularly comfortable; a softer one for kneeling and a more firm one for sitting - and they are mounted so they don't slip off. This unit is steel and is quite sturdy. The handles make getting up from kneeling easy since you can push off from them. A great piece of equipment.

I ordered this item 2 days ago and it showed up on my door today. Wow! Really fast shipping. I bought this due to my trouble with rising from a kneeling/sitting position. I am not as agile as I once was. My weeds were taking over my garden and flower beds. I had to do something. So I started researching kneelers. Out of all I came across this seemed the best choice. I am happy I went with it. I was weary that it would not be sturdy enough to hold me but after sitting on it and rising from a kneeling position several times I am pleased with the construction of this item. I feel confident that there will be no issues. It appears solidly built and I anticipate it lasting for some time. I am also surprised as to how light it is. I have used it in the garden and it remains sturdy, stable and easy to rise and reposition. I will update this review if I find any issues.

I like this kneeler bench, I rely on it to do my weeding. It has a wider, stronger kneeling area, which I like, and the padding is thicker, too. I had ordered one from another company which was supposed to be all metal, but the area under the padding turned out to be plastic. This one is wood under the padding, stronger and better. I like everything about it except for the fact the frame keeps bending when I use it. I'm not overly heavy - 198 pounds, so it shouldn't bend, but where the joints are, each time I use it, I have to bend the frame back in place. Otherwise I would give it 5 stars, it's much better than other brands.

Excellent tool for anyone who spends a lot of time gardening - especially if you're getting a little older. My husband's favorite pastime is working in our large vegetable garden. He has had two back surgeries in the past year, and was having lots of problems getting up and down while working in the garden. I ordered this kneeler sitter and the optional tool pouch for him. The padding on the kneeling area is soft yet supportive and the seat is wide and strong enough to support his 6' 2' frame. We've had other kneeler- sitters but this one is the best by far! Plus it can be used all around the house to do any tasks which require you to kneel on the floor and be able to easily get back up on your feet again.

I am a frequent online shopper and always research reviews various places before I commit to buying an item. Well I bought this for my 82 year old grandmother who's joy in the summer is gardening. Her issue was she couldn't kneel down at all to do so. I was originally concerned about the comfort, safety, functionality, and sturdiness of such a product. However, I am happy to report that this product is of great quality and that my grandmother loves it!!!! She even uses it inside. It is lightweight enough for her to move where she needs it. She reports that it is safe and has no issues. Before I gave it to her I tried it just to be sure and felt it was durable quality. it came already assembled with prompt delivery.

I bought the Gardener's Supply Company Extra Wide-Seat Folding Garden Kneeler because of the extra wide seat, however what I received was the regular width 6" wide, hence the 3 star review instead of a 5 star. Ironic since the description specifically says **The authentic kneeler only from Gardener's Supply is 24" Long with 8-1/2" Wide Cushion Please ensure you receive the correct dimensions from other sellers**. Otherwise, it's a very solid and well made garden kneeler, I really liked the 2 pocket tool pouch that attaches with velcro, which has roomy pockets and seems well constructed.
