Lived in Germany, Gardena is quality stuff. I bought 2, mounted to limestone walls with anchors. Outstanding retractable hose. Take inside in the winter and place back on mount in spring. Don't pass this up because some reviewers a. Can't mount it properly (it needs a solid wall, you'll be pulling 100' of hose!) b. Never used one and didn't read instructions to turn off the water and empty the hose before retracting c. Don't know what quick-connects are and think they need to cut the end off to put on a hose sprayer (go to the big box store, plenty of standard quick connects to use with your sprayer). Quality thru and thru. A little bit more than some competitors, but who are those guys? This is quality German product. You won't be disappointed! (oh, and 1/2" vs 5/8" line mean nothing; have a plumber check your water pressure if you're a residential homeowner. If you're using this for a ranch..well, maybe not) Buy one! Then get another once you mount it, use it, and find out how much better it makes your life not rolling up hoses. ... show more

i wasn't super pumped that the mechanism and wall mount are plastic, but the convenience factor out weighs that part. the hose is 1/2", so it is a little small and even on jet, it just can't generate that much power. given the smallness of the hose, it also has some ability to kink given how long it is and how much can be rolled out. however, for regular plant watering or nothing that requires significant pressure, it is great. i have had no problems with the locking. i have walked directly away from the wall thinking i'm at the end, but there is more on the roll. mine is mounted in a shaded location, which is great; i'm not sure how it would fare in direct sun given it is plastic. one oddity, when the sprayer is turned on or off, or pulling the hose around, at the connection to the hose bib, it will squirt. doesn't cause me concern, because it is near a flower bed, so a little extra spray there is ok. the ability to water everything in the front yard without having to connect multiple hoses or pull around hoses from other locations is great. i've been using it for about a month, so still new, but i wish i had purchased this a earlier for the convenience. ... show more

Purchased this based on the reviews. Wish I had dug a little deeper and found out that this thing is a piece of garbage, but I had to learn the hard way. Fortunately, I have the assurance protection plan and was refunded the money because I was outside of the return window. I purchased this with the intention of putting it up immediately, but due to a remodeling project that was going on at our house that extended an additional three months, I wasn’t able to put this on until last week. within one minute of it being installed, two of the nuts that are holding it to the house, the heads broke off. They literally just popped off across the patio. The very first time I pulled the hose out to water an item. I heard a snapping sound and then what sounded like a spring unwinding for a minute. It turns out it was the retraction device breaking on the very first use rendering the entire hose worthless. It will neither pull out nor retract. One use. Total garbage. It turns out.
