TIPS & TRICKS - For best results, ensure that the ground is properly tilled and aerated. This will create an environment where your bulbs will thrive once planted. - Using the Weasel® Bulb Planter ensures a uniform depth for all your bulb plantings. Each time you make a hole, a plug of soil will be captured in the planter. As you dig your next hole, this plug will be ejected from the tool. Use the plug to cover your newly planted bulb quickly and easily. - Be sure to apply pressure on the footplate using force from your legs rather than engaging your back. The Weasel® Bulb Planter is ergonomically designed to reduce stress on joints and muscles, and make annual or seasonal planting an easier process. - Remember that bulbs must be handled carefully and planted as directed. I bought this tool to plant 300 lilies and 200 tulips in an area of lawn next to my driveway that I wanted to turn into a flower bed. I soon learned there was an inch of good soil in this location, with wildly inconsistent soil quality and structure below. This bulb planter has seen it all, from heavy clay to sand to silt to rocks and maybe two holes in nice loam. - In loam and moist clay, it consistently digs a 6-8" hole with one jump and the full plug lifts out of the ground with the tool. It would make really quick work of planting in an established bed with deep good soil. - In silt and sand, It digs nearly as deep. Depending on the soil moisture, it might require a half rotation and a second jump to get the full depth needed. Often some or all of the plug remains in the ground because the drier soil doesn't hold together. - In the rocky soil torture test, it showcased its durability. I wasn't gentle and the tool held up well. If there is one complaint, it's that there were a number of times that a direct rock hit on the tip bent one side of the tip inward. The blade is spot welded in two places and the lower spot weld could be closer to the tip to better support the tapered points (or the whole thing could be seam welded to make it indestructible). Each time, a hammer and punch persuaded it back into place. Repairable is a close second to unbreakable, so it's still a 5-star review. If this is your soil, do yourself the favor of some prep and soil amendment before planting bulbs. Bottom line, the bulb digger performed well through 500 holes in unfavorable soil conditions and is as functional (but less pretty) after 500 as it was before the first.

Easy, efficient, way to create bulb planting holes. Tool can also be used to increase size of initial hole. We used it to plant 4-6 diameter amaryllis bulbs we had grown indoors. Buy this tool if you plant bulbs. Amazingly fast with one person digging holes and second person planting bulbs.

This allows quite effortless and fun planting of a large number of bulbs. If you are putting in more than 10 bulbs, this is a go to tool. Incredibly useful

This tool is made of heavy metal and is a solid tool. The big savings is that you'll be using your legs to cut holes in the soil rather than your arms and hands. That alone makes using this tool easier than a handheld bulb planter. But be warned: It works as shown in the video if your soil is light and fluffy like the soil in the video. If you are planting in an area where the soil has not already been fluffed up, you'll be stomping hard and prying the soil out of the tubular piece. Still hard work, and you'll likely be squatting or on your knees. It doesn't seem that using this tool is actually easier than just using a D-handle garden fork.

Buddy loaned me his, and next to the 6 he has, were various other models that are all flat edge bulb tools that don't puncture through weed barrier at all well. So this tool wins hands down, literally and figuratively. A+ product, A+ delivery, A+ for my needs. THansk for making a tool that does a very specific combined job on bulb holes and barrier cutting at the same time. NOTE: have a 2x2 and small plate/wood plywood in a bucket so you can push and save your plugs for backfilling after you do 10-15 holes and root stock, or plugs in your nursery. UPDATE: 5/10/25 - used this for F18 cell and quart sizing (with wiggle to expand the hole) and works wonderfully. Reduced installtion time of 300-400 annuals from hours, to literally less than an hour with a helping set of hands decelling the plants while I popped the holes, handed me the plant, and installed/back filled to right depth each and every plant. Literally looks like a pro team of goofballs came in and did the install.

I almost want to cry i havent got this till now! This is one of the best tools I have purchased this year. I have super dense dirt and clay that causes planting bulbs strenuous. I have been using my hand bulb planter for years and even tried a bulb drill bit. My dirt bent both. This is a game changer. It not only glides into the dirt like butta' but is easier on the back. My only one issue is if your dirty is wet (muddy) it can get stuck in the cylinder. I had to hose it out, and it dislodged easy enough. Once you press into the dirt the old dirt pushes out, making the perfect plug for the previous bulb. Honestly I think this may even be useful to plant my seedlings come spring, cant wait to find out!

I'd never planted bulbs before. I bought more than a hundred to start a line of narcissus along my back boundary. I started planting a number of them before this tool arrived. This tool offered a much easier option for planting them. It was a lot easier than getting down on hands and knees and excavating a hole with a trowel or similar tool. I knew my soil was pretty "clean" and this tool just pulled full plugs up effortlessly. All the plugs were the full length of the tool - about 6", I think. I still had to do some hands and knees work, but far less than previously. I have other areas of my yard where there are a lot of roots just below the surface, because I'd just cleared them a year or two ago. Now that I have a feel for the tool, I'm hoping that it will be effective to use in those areas, too, at least where the roots are not that large. It may take a little longer, but I expect it will still save me time. I'm very glad I bought this.
