I'm so glad I bought this vittles vault! I was worried that the size I bought would not hold 35 lb of my pet's food. However 35 lb fits fine, with space to spare. I can store the scoop inside of the vittles vault also. My two dogs eat Pure Balance which is the Walmart store brand dog food. So a 35 lb bag of this brand fits inside this size of container perfectly in my opinion. I love that the top is large! It's easy to open, closes securely, no worries about leaving it open accidentally and the dogs getting into it when they are not supposed to. Scooping out food is easy too, you're not going to bump your scoop and spill kibble everywhere. I love the compact size! At 12" high and 12" wide, it is small enough that I can shove it inside one of my kitchen cupboards if needed. If you are looking to store your pet food in a garage or porch or out of doors anywhere you should know that rats, squirrels, etc. can and will chew through plastic. This container will not meet your needs if rodents are an issue for you. This is a heavy duty plastic, it's solid, not flimsy. It should last you many years with normal, daily use. I wouldn't drop it from a 3 storey building, but the price is justified. If you need a pet storage solution that is solid, not hideous, and can keep a bunch of vittles in a small place, this is for you! ... show more

Updated: So I'm reading the reviews again and I see two patterns. 1. The promised measuring cup is not being shipped (I didn't get one either and it's shown in the description), not a big deal. 2. Do Not leave it outside, it is not pest proof. Another thing that's happening occasionally is when the plastic is poured in some of the molds it's not consistently thick so some containers will have thin areas easily breached by critters. This being said it's still the thickest food container I could find for the price and I recommend you eyeball every inch of it when it arrives to make sure it doesn't have weak spots from a bad plastic pour so that you can get it replaced if needs be. ---(Original Review follows) I decided we'd go back to our roots and use rice instead of bread and pasta as our main carb. Rice is starting to get expensive except for giant bags at Walmart. I get my rice haul home and quickly realize I don't have a way to keep it sealed once it's open. I originally started looking for rice dispensers but none of them had a reasonable price, nor were they air tight. I searched for air tight food containers but none were big enough or the reviews showed cracked and broken containers. On my final search, air tight containers, this brand came up with zero complaints of cracking and breaking. The larger ones were deeply discounted so I purchased it and couldn't be more pleased. At first I was a little annoyed that it had dog paws on it when it reads it can be used for grain but I quickly got over it because my dog is now getting rice added to his chicken. I ordered 2 of these: 1 for indoor storage of my cat's food so that we wouldn't need to worry about the food getting stale or ants getting attracted to the food, and 1 for outdoor storage of my dog's food so that it would be safe from the elements like rain, dirt, or bugs. I am happy to say that I have nothing to complain about, the storage containers are great. I'm glad I heeded others' warnings to size up. The 35lb container perfectly holds 30lbs of Wellness Puppy food. The kibble is about as small as it gets, so it's not an issue of larger food taking up more space. Note the picture is after several weeks of feedings, but when I first filled it, it just barely held the whole 30lb bag. (I used a trash bag in case it still didn't fit and I needed to send it back for a larger size, though I might keep using it so food oils don't spoil over time.) It seemed like reviewers of the much smaller sizes reported more accurate sizing. Other than sizing, it's just as expected, tight seal, easy to open and close for twice daily feedings. ... show more

Overall pretty impressed with this product except for two things. First, it doesn't hold 35 lbs of the dog food we use. It didn't even hold 30 lbs. Our kibble is tiny bites and I expected to be able to dump an entire 30 lb bag of food into it and have room to spare. We were almost able to get the entire 30 lb bag to fit but only if we removed 4 cups. Second, there was no scoop included in our package. Maybe I read the listing incorrectly and the scoop isn't included. If it was supposed to be included, ours was not. ... show more

Seems like a tight seal, but I didn't check if it kept water in since that's not what I need it for. All seems perfectly suited for my need - keeping cat food fresh and keeping my tricky fatty catty and critters out. Lid is easy to twist on and off and takes minimal space in my kitchen. This was a great find. We buy the 30lb bag of Diamond Naturals. We store it in the pantry, if we forget to close the door our puppy is a vacuum cleaner and would attack the bag.
