My son got something similar to this at Christmas and it had Dr. Mario game, which was about the only retro game I loved to play. Sorry about it. Not sorry. So when I saw this, I was very excited even though technically with the 800 games I was not guaranteed Dr. Mario would be one of them. The materials are seemingly lighter and maybe not as durable and yet, maybe lighter is better compared to what they knew in the 80s. The instructions were fairly useless, in my opinion. It kind of looked like one would require batteries for this and yet clearly there is a cord and option to connect with USB. So...I also realize to play it on my TV I have to have a TV that has the old school AV inputs. Luckily I still have some. That cord was easy to plug into the back of my TV. And then that cord, I plugged into the controller (this comes with two) I had plugged into USB and proceeded to play. The controller with the screen is nicely marked for the volume control and the on/off switch and the like. I was a bit bummed at first after being elated to find YES Dr. Mario and full disclosure I have not tested any other games the one button I thought was the one to flip the medicine worked inconsistently. When I tried the lower button, it worked perfectly. So...crisis averted. The other great news is the game can be played right from the controller. And then this morning I found out that after having the controller plugged into the USB all night, I could play it without being plugged in. AND I played for at least an hour and power was still going strong. So far so good. Now this comes with two controllers and after having the success I had so far, I thought okay maybe the other controller (that does not have a screen) can somehow be used, especially when hooked up to TV. Now maybe someone else could get it to work. And again, the instructions were basically useless. I could not. Although, now that I am writing this, maybe it is in case you want a second player. Anyway, for what this is and zero internet is required and all the games and the price point, like I said, I wanted to give this five stars. The reason I AM not is due to the second controller thing. And from me to get five stars, something needs to not only be what I expected...it needs to WOW me. While this item does kind of wow me, not everything works. So four stars it is. ... show more

This handheld Gameboy Game Console is a retro gaming console that has 800 classical games on it. It is lightweight and portable. It has a 3.5” LCD screen. It comes with a built in 1200 mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery and a USB external micro charging cable. On a full charge you can play from 4-6 hours. It has a 2 player shared game mode. It comes with an audio video cable to enable you to have HD output to your large screen TV. These are the kind of arcade games that I used to play in the stores with quarters. These bring back all the childhood memories when I spent many hours playing the quarter machine arcade games. I have to admit the graphics aren’t as good compared to today’s video games but when you have 800 games in the palms of your hands, you cannot beat this deal. I would definitely recommend this Gameboy style game console. You will be reliving the games you played as a child such as Super Mario Bros, Contra, Popeye, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Pac Man, and many more. ... show more

The hand held works as intended but the number of games is slightly misleading. Many are reskinned repeats or Japanese versions. It's very light and sometimes one if buttons has to be pressed hard to register, but all in all good for the money.

I love this! Being born in the late 70s you better believe I absolutely loved the original Nintendo. These games are awesome! There are sooooo many!!! I love that I can bring it along anywhere since it is very lightweight. It is better and works better than I expected. The cons are that you cannot save games and when it is set on 2 players you have to use the corded controller for the 2nd player instead of just handing the device over. Overall sooooo awesome! Forget about saving the games. It’s just fun to play! ... show more

If you were born in the late '70s or early '80s and cut your tweenie gamer teeth on the old cartridge systems and original black and white Game Boy, set aside a full 40-hour workweek to enjoy this delightful waste of time. They have Super Mario, yes, but also Goonies, Castlevania, and BURGER TIME. It's so weird. You can't save anything, though. I think that's the thing to be aware of. It's not the most intricate system. Play only if you're going to play all the way through. Remember when each of these games cost more than this entire slew of 800 games, plus controller and monitor hookup? Good thing capitalism favors the new and shiny. So mych to do on this little device. All the games I remember from my younger days, though obviously not full versions. My 23 y/o son won't put it down for anyone else to use. Comes with wires & a controller to hook up to a larger svreen though have not tried that yet.

I know this is probably based on a MAME engine and maybe not quite legal for much of the content, but that stuff is pervasive and readily available anywhere. The plastic is cheap. The whole thing feels cheap, but it mostly works. A few of the games were glitchy - restarting in the middle of play or locking up and requiring a restart. I was happy that you could page side to side across the game library rather than having to scroll down 800 times. Not quite sure how the content is arranged but some seems alphabetical and others, I'm not certain. Perhaps it is alphabetical in Chinese and that gets messed up when you view in English? Many of the games are variations of the same thing, so 800 games is kind of a misnomer. It is cheaply made, but entertaining for $30. ... show more
