While the expensive stainless steel, convection oven, and overhead stove vent, microwave, lost its microwave function everything else works. That likely means the Magnetron has failed. It could mean the diode has failed too, but either case has too much labor involved to repair. I looked at having a new one installed, but those big box stores that do it require a specific vent size and refuse to do any modifications, so you can be left with a mess dealing with contractors. The good news is except for the microwaves themselves every other function works. I can even use the convection oven feature if needed. Still, I need the convenience of a microwave. Thinking about it a bit I remembered I have a large countertop oven on my prep table. This particular model fits perfectly on top. I bought a heat-resistant mat to prevent slippage of the microwave feet and installed it out of the box in five minutes. While much smaller and less powerful than my old unit, this fits most of the things I use a microwave for. Heating water, melting butter, small frozen dinners, reheating pizza and sandwiches, it does them all fine. The price of this was fantastic as it cost roughly one tenth of the cost of my old unit, and less than the trip charge a local repair facility would charge me to evaluate a repair estimate. I like the retro look and the simple controls although there is a bit of a learning curve. My old unit had mostly intuitive buttons, so selecting power levels and presets was easy. I never bothered with the manual on my old unit, but I've had to access this one a few times for the special timed cook, reheat, defrost and other settings. It's not overly complex, but you do need some information. I laminated a card with the basic settings I'll use and attached it with a magnet to my fridge. That should help. despite less power most things I've used it with cook nearly as fast and as complete as the old unit. Recommended. ... show more

Ok, so I have only had this for a few days, but so far I love it. I'm a single older woman, and it wasn't as heavy as my old one that was turning on all by itself, or changing the time when I had food or water in it. That was dangerous, so I decided to get a smaller unit that was easier to use. I dont cook many things in it, so I dont need all the fancy buttons. I just wanted to turn a dial for the time and push a button! And that's what this one does, just like the one I had 30 years ago. I love it. It's also a pretty color, so that's good. It's not very noisy at all, looks easy to clean, unlike others I have had. I also like that it wasn't expensive. The buttons are really simple and easy to understand. I went through a bad experience with a Farberware microwave before I bought this one. The Farberware was so cheaply made, sparks, every time I opened the microwave door after cooking something heavy steam (I think) came out. Within 3 months of purchase it died... sparking and smoking. I got a replacement... and exactly the same, 3 months later, same end. I decided to look for a different microwave and chose this one. The retro fridge looks great in our kitchen. The microwave is powerful, we haven't had any issues. The stop/cancel function and lock/unlock are something to get used to. I didn't like the feature at first but now it doesn't bother me. The only issue is the time disappears and just blinks. It does not consistently stay on. I have to do more research to see if that can be fixed. Otherwise it does its job! ... show more

I couldn't see the buttons on a counter top, but a friend suggested the top of my refrigerator. Just wish the cord was la half foot longer. My friend was able to easily dismantle the child safety lock feature, which all new microwaves seem to have now as required by law. (Too many reviews not knowing this, and breaking off the handle because they couldn't get the door open - the instructions are right are on the door of the microwave!) Found that the round dial button is the easiest setting to use. I have cancelled my return, and since it's an inexpensive microwave, fingers crossed it will last several years. Love the red retro look. This is an edited review, taking it up from one star. Since I only used it tonight for the first time, I hesitate to give it more than 3 stars - but of course, I want this to be a five star winner! ... show more
