I've bought 2 of what should be the same mats just in different designs, Mandala Mantra and Kaleidoscope Sea. As you can see in the photos, even though they're supposed to be the same mat the foam density seems completely different. Mandala Mantra - high density Kaleidoscope Sea - low density According to the tracking info, the Mandala was shipped from around Wisconsin and the Kaleidoscope was from around Denver. I'm not sure if one is a fake (or who knows maybe both are) or if Gaiam simply has manufacturing and QA issues. What's for sure is that both of them had a terrible chemical odor that didn't fully go out even after hosing them down and hang drying them outside for 24 hours in a semi shaded area. If I tried to immediately work out on these as they arrived I'm pretty sure I would have fainted. For now I still gave a 4 star review, I'll use them more and if need be I'll update the review with a lower score. ... show more

Finally I am happy with a yoga mat. I have tried four others but either the mat stretched under my feet or my feet and hands slipped on the mat. I have been using this mat for regular practice for two months and am completely happy with it. It isn't particularly thick but I practice on carpet, so that is not an issue for me. My hands and feet stay where I place them on the mat--no slipping. The mat has a printed design that is holding up with no signs of wear. One side has lines printed within the design. I was worried the gold color might flake up like some cheap yoga mats do, but I've been using it for about 9 months now, and it's in the same condition as it was when I bought it. I found my old yoga mat to be pretty beat-up looking, both from 15 years of use and a few unfortunate incidents when the cats used it as a scratching post when it was rolled up and propped in a corner. It definitely needed to be replaced! I am *so* glad that I bought this Gaiam yoga mat - it is absolutely beautiful and it really makes me want to use it because of how pretty it is! The thickness is perfect: it is both cushiony and supportive. I use this for Pilates, mostly, and and 'rolling' moves are pain-free because this mat cushions my spine. I already own one of these yoga mats, which I got last year, they are perfect for everyday workouts. Just saw they're on offer, so came back to grab one more.. It does smell worse in the beginning, I just air dried it for few days before using. If you wanted to use it instantly, then I recommend you to clean with damp cloth both the sides, then you are good to go.. ... show more

The whole yoga room can smell the stink this mat gives off, some kind of chemical-plastic thing. I've had it for months now, left it in the sun, washed it down with mat cleaner, unrolled it for two weeks. It is getting better.
