I have had three of the same Timex Ironman watches over the years. The big problem that I had was that first the loop for excess band length would break--- that was easily remedied by using an o-ring to replace it. Then within a couple of months of that the band would always break. I have tried to find a replacement band without luck. Unfortunately the band has a non straight end that keys into the watch body which more or less prevents using an aftermarket band of any type. Plus I wanted something different. So this time around (no pun intended!) I decided on finding a watch that I can get a band for and over the holidays I saw a G-Shock at a local store and it stuck in my mind. This is for a everyday watch that I wear and the functions that really matter are time and date--- the rest is just the proverbial "added bonus". So I could not decide between this one and the one that is all black--- so with free returns I bought both as well as one other to try out. The other was fine, but simply too small in diameter. Maybe when I was in my teens it would work, but as an adult--- just didn't look large enough. So I sat both this one with the red and the all black side by side. I kept using the functions and it really came down to reality--- I need to be able to see the face as easily as possible. So the all black that has all black lettering and the black inverted display on the digital part--- I know it will bother me over time and I will learn not to like it. So I decided to keep this one. I do like the red accents and the buttons are clearly labeled plus the display may not be as sexy as the other in black, but it is easier to see all the time. And as far as the red hour hand being hard to see--- for me it is not a problem. I have made a point of looking at it at different parts of the day--- it is always normal to read. Yes the hands do get in the way of the digital readout at specific times of the day, but for me it is not a big deal. Overall styling is great for a resin type watch and it feels good on my wrist. As far as size, it is almost exactly 2" from button to button on the diagonal and is about 1/2" thick. I thought it may have been too big, but it is just right. As far as price--- compared to some similar watches in the same range--- I will stick with the G-Shock. I have also ordered a spare band so that when it does eventually break--- I will have a spare ready to go. For setup I never even read the book. Took less than 1-minute to do and the longest part was scrolling through the time zones and then remembering if we are on DST or not. As far as the backlight it is amber and factory set for 1-second. After reading another review on the all black version--- in the adjustment menu there is the option to change it to 3-second which I did. Again, easy to do and happy with it! ... show more

I received my Casio GA100 a few weeks ago - overall I'm very impressed!! It's large & bold but not overwhelming on my wrist - lightweight with a secure strap that looks cool too. Seems like a very durable watch and I'm comfortable wearing it when I'm active - I'm not worried about getting it wet (I just ruined a Valjoux Accutron in water - ouch). This watch is getting a lot of attention from others too. Setting the time was simple and I still need to study the details written in the manual for other functions - but the basic funtions are simple enough to figure out on my own. I wish the face was saphire but I have no issues (yet) and other reviews are encouraging. I've destroyed other sports watches and so far I'm very impressed with my new Casio. The LED night reading is a little difficult but I'm usually not desperate for timekeeping when it's pitch dark anyway.... The hour hand (red) is a little hard to read (compared to the silver minute hand). Price was attractive too - thanks Casio for an excellent product !!! I play ultimate with a group at lunch and we never knew what time we needed to leave because everyone would take their watches off. I bought this from Amazon for a great price. It looks nice. And after playing Ultimate with this watch on for probably 100 hours now of sweating, running, and bumping, I do not have one scratch on the watch. I did cause some blemishes on the band by spraying it with mosquito repellent, so be careful with that. I do agree with other reviewers that the red hour hand can be a little hard to read especially at night, but I haven't had a problem telling time out on the field. For me, it does what I need. I have peace of mind that my timepiece is practically indestructible and looks great to boot. ... show more

I just received this watch. It's a very good looking watch. Like the GD100 model I own, it's light weight and very comfortable. The hands are very visible in the day time. I love the red and black combination. The back lighting at night could be improved. Holding your hand around the watch when the back light is on, improves the visibility of the hands at night. Forget viewing the digital screen at night. So far, from my short experience with G-Shock watches, they need to improve the back lighting of their Digi/Analog watches. Their digital watches have very good back lighting. Casio, why not use the same back lighting on the analog watches? They also need to make the alarm signal louder. Either that, or my hearing is beginning to go. If I need to see the time at night or in a theater, I'll wear my GD100 with the excellent blue back light, however during the day. there is no better looking watch than the GA100-1A4. ... show more

I own several watches of all different types. I haven't purchased a sports watch in a while and needed a newer one. I thought this was a cool watch when I ordered it and would probably only wear it occasionally, thinking this watch would be to big heavy and bulky.....I was mistaken. While it is big in size, it's actually very light and comfortable. I wear a lot of suits for "dress" occasions and wear appropriate watches for the occasion, but I can see me slipping this watch in there occasionally. It's just a cool comfortable watch. I think it's pretty durable and will be around for years to come. It's a pretty tough watch, and I'm tough on watches. Ok, I'll have to sit down and actually learn all of its functions. It's just a cool watch! I'm happy with my purchase! ... show more
