  • Does the job for a single room but noisy and don't expect it to go around corners
Size: 14000 BTU Pattern: Air Conditioner
The media could not be loaded. I bought the 14,000 BCU model hoping it would cool my entire 640-square-foot, one-bedroom condo -- although I also recognized that portable air conditioners are best suited for a single space. It does a great job of cooling the small bedroom but doesn't reach the main kitchen/dining/living area. No big surprise there, but a bummer. It runs constantly and is quite noisy, but I've managed to fall asleep OK. I keep it set around 69 degrees, which is cooler than I'd like but that seems to cause the least amount of loud off/on cycling. I do love the wifi feature. I'm able to turn the AC on and off when away from home. The app was a little wonky to set up but once you get it, it works. I also have it set up to Alexa, but haven't tried operating it by voice because the remote works just fine. The part that goes in your actual window is a bit inferior because to adjust the height/length, you have to insert two screws into the plastic. In other words, it's a permanent adjustment so you can't really see how it fits before you decide if you want to keep it. And there are air gaps. I've seen better window seals but don't let this small detail prevent you from buying it. I chose Frigidaire based on the brand's high ratings in Consumer Reports. The top-rated model in Consumer Reports wasn't available and though this particular model isn't rated, I figured it was worth a shot. Plus, I was able to get it before a heat wave hit. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase but I might have been just fine with a less-powerful unit. I stay cool at night and my cat is comfortable and that's the most important thing. ... show more

  • The hot air vent pipe wasn't long enough
Size: 8000 BTU Pattern: Air Conditioner
I bought this Frigidaire 8,000 BTU unit to cool a 200 square foot room. It does the job with cooling to spare. I have no idea how efficiently it uses electricity as I have no way to measure that. It has a sticker that says its energy efficient, so I'll go with that. My only complaint is the hot air vent pipe. Its only 5.5 feet long. If you need a longer pipe, you can buy additional Frigidaire 5.5-foot sections for $40 each, and couplers for $18 each. In my case, I needed 15 feet. Had I used Frigidaire parts, that would have cost me around $116. Instead, I found a 16-foot vent pipe here on Amazon for $20. It was a bit difficult to fit into the adapter that attaches it to the back of the unit, but it works. The best part is it saved me $96. ... show more

  • Affordable and got the job done.
Size: 8000 BTU Pattern: Air Conditioner
This was the first year I decided I wasn't going to suffer in the heat. This was incredible! It is a bit loud, but it was effective and got the job done. I had to turn the TV up when I turned it on, but that didn't bother me too bad. I live in a three-story apartment with only sliding windows in the Pacific Northwest. The AC setup was really self-explanatory, the box was easy to open, it is not super heavy, and it worked really well. I have a 760 ft² apartment, I put this in the living room on one side of the apartment, and the bedrooms are on the opposite side. The entire apartment stayed pretty cool. The fan that blows the cold air into the apartment is really strong and you can adjust the direction, So we managed to get a good flow of cold air. It did not increase my electricity bill as much as I thought it was going to! I am pleasantly surprised with this thing. I only used it for one season though, I'm not sure how it will work next year after being stored all year. ... show more

  • Works Well but not really portable
Size: 8000 BTU Pattern: Air Conditioner
Frigidaire lives up to its good reputation with a portable A/C unit. It’s very heavy and once you attach the hose and connectors to the window it’s doubtful you would move it from room to room. Noise level is higher than expected but the plus side is it drowns out the street noise from passing trucks! ... show more

  • Not portable, not easy to install
Size: 8000 BTU Pattern: Air Conditioner
TLDR; 3 stars because I don't consider this portable and the installation is not convenient. On top of that, installing the window piece is going to be an ordeal for most people and I am shocked more reviews don't mention this. You are going to have to cut hard plastic with some kind of saw and tap screw holes. This is not something I am used to doing when I order an appliance. Once the window piece is in place I can't imagine anyone moving it...so this is not portable despite having wheels. Its a window unit that is free standing instead of hanging inside or outside of your window. If you were to detach it from the window you could temporarily cool another room at the expense of the room next to the one you were cooling...but this is an extremely limited use case IMO and not at all efficient. The exhaust heat this thing generates is significant. It's almost hair dryer hot. It does cool a bedroom or home office though, once installed, very well and very quickly. Its like a hotel room AC in that regard if you want to crank it down and freeze, you can. It feels like a great car AC to me, except its in your room and not your car. Lastly...the noise is insane. It does not bother me personally because I like loud white noise and I use headphones when working or gaming. But I am shocked how loud it is. It's almost as loud as a shop fan you might use to dry a carpet. You have to clean the filter about once a month if you run it 8-10 hours a day. Not ideal but at least you aren't having to buy them. I will say its pretty cool how they have somehow eliminated the need for draining off the water. Where does the condensation go? NFI. If you use it to dehumidify you have to attach a hose and drain it somewhere but I can't imagine anyone buying it for that. ... show more

  • It works. Buy it.
Size: 10000 BTU Pattern: Air Conditioner
I bought this to see if I could cool down my upstairs 12'X18' master bedroom. We have central AC but we keep it at about 78 during the day since we're constantly in and out of the house. I like to have our room cooler at night but that meant cooling the entire house. I thought I'd try this and see what happens. *** WORKS GREAT *** we keep it set to 78 during the day ( the room would often get up to 82), and turn it down to about 74 an hour before we go to bed. Works exactly as I hoped it would. I piped the exhaust through a side wall into the attic over the garage. 4 stars instead of 5 due to the loudness when it's on. ... show more
