  • Cheap insurance
Style: Ultra Synthetic
Let's start by boldly stating that I drive the world's best car - the 2010 Saab 9-3X. It drives really great, is a fantastic family car, has decent AWD for winters, the inside is stylish and well thought out, and every day I get up and look at it, I think to myself, "that is a nice looking car" AND I've paid it off years ago. You try finding something else that can tick ALL those boxes. End of discussion but your choice may be different depending upon whether you are a (famously nutty) Saab owner. All Saab owners are a bit batty. Known medical fact. Nutty Saab owners like to have cars with character, that have been part of some great experiences and most of them really want to hold onto their cars for a long time. That at the very least means you don't cheap out on oil changes and on the other end will, depending upon fiscal reserves be willing to pay for your mechanic's life support just so you don't have to find another Saab savvy garage. So if you go to your local shop and ask for an oil change, even if you ask for synthetic (let's hope you asked for FULL synthetic), you will most likely get a new but low end cellulose oil filter. In today's world, distance between recommended oil changes can be higher than 10k miles - this was partly in concert with the introduction of Synthetic and great additive packages years ago. If that's what your car manufacturer says, then that's fine, but to go those longer distances (I would say even 5k or over) miles, you also want an oil filter than can last. Cellulose is old school and I would really worry about it breaking down after 5k miles. This is where synthetic oil filters like this come in. This is my first time with the FRAM version. In the past I've picked up the Bosch Distance Plus and Mobil 1 Synthetic filters that I pick up while on special at Amazon or at Advantage Auto. The Fram came in the cheapest this time around and assuming it does what it says on the tin, I'll be a happy man. Don't think you can go wrong with either of the three. So even with synthetic (Mobil 1 - great oil) and synthetic filters, I still change out between 6-7k miles. In the NorthEast, we have some severe conditions (I drive my Saab through the winter - great in snow - just get yourself some winters and drive using your brain), so I change out on the early side, just to be safe in case the oil's breaking down early. Friends don't let friends go >5k miles with full synthetic oil unless they also have a synthetic oil filter. Buy it (or the Bosch or Mobil 1 equivalent) + Use fully synthetic + Change every 7k = Cheap insurance + No regrets hth Dingo ... show more

  • Great filter BUT
Style: Ultra Synthetic
I used this filter for my 2005 Chevy cobalt. Its just a filter but it’s worked great. My only issue, which is significant, is that I changed my oil 2 days ago after 5k miles and did not change this filter. However, as with all oil changes I’ve done in the past, I removed the filter to allow better drainage. I recoated the filter’s o ring with oil and reinstalled it. Car ran great, no issues. Then boom, large oil leak. My car has never leaked oil in the past and I tracked the leak back to the filter. It seems to me that the o ring was not happy with being removed and reseated (even though it’s claimed to be a 10k+ miles filter) and has started leaking significant amounts of oil. I think the product is great and the quality is solid but I suppose this is a warning to future DIYers. TLDR: Used this filter for 5k miles, changed oil, removed filter to help oil drainage, replaced filter, car sprung first oil leak, tracked leak down to filter o ring failure. ... show more

  • Fram Ultra Synthetic XG9018, 20K Mile Change Interval Cartridge Oil Filter $11 mar 2021
Style: Ultra Synthetic
Fits drop in filter for 13 equinox 2.4L, This is USA made with a metal backing. I bought it as another reviewer had same issues with ac delco and other filters getting crunched up by ecotec junky engine design. The fram ultra metal backing does seem to stand up to this and not come out smushed. Worth the $11 vs other guys at 7. Comes with o ring for cap too. Buy the low profile 32mm socket and use a flex head ratchet to get the cap off. You're welcome! ... show more

  • Take the step up to the Fram XG9018! Worth it and the same price as the TG9018 (from Walmart)
Style: Ultra Synthetic
Excellent filter for my 2003 Saturn Ion w 232,000 miles! I installed this same filter at my last oil change and when I drained the oil to install this new filter, the oil didn't have the same look as when I used the TG9018 filter. It does an excellent job filtering the oil and it was $2 cheaper at Amazon than at Walmart (in store). I paid almost the same price for the XG as the TG at Walmart. ... show more

  • Stout little filter.
Style: Ultra Synthetic
I installed this in a 2007 Saturn Vue with the 2.2 L Ecotech. Installation was simple (after finding a 32mm shallow socket to remove the filter cap). Seems to be a stout looking filter with the wire mesh backing. I found this priced the same a the regular Fram filter so decided to try the upgrade. I plan on changing it whenever the oil life monitor says to change the oil (which is usually 7000-7500 miles) I know it is 1/2 what the filter is rated for, but I change the filter when I change the oil (using Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30). I have read of some problems with some brands of filters (including the Fram XG) on these Ecotec engines getting twisted and torn due to size fitment issues. Hope no issues with this one. I will post up when I take it out and results with that in a year or so. ... show more

  • Easy to install on a chevy cobalt
Style: Ultra Synthetic
Lots of you tube videos on how to install mine was under the hood and easy to get to. I found I could change my own oil at less than half the price I was paying a shop to do it and I could be sure I was getting quality oil and a new oil filter at the proper interval.
