I was sold on hybrid smart watches when I bought the Misfit Phase watch. I liked that it had the (albeit limited) capabilities of a smart watch with long battery life and good looks. It seemed to pair nicely with my smart phone and the phone watch interface worked well. The problem I had with the Phase, though, was that the gunmetal watch hands on black background was nearly invisible, the non-standard watch bands, and that there was no way to recall the last alert by a press of a (non-existent) button. Well, enter the Fossil hybrid smartwatch and all those problems have been resolved. The watch hands are quite visible, being lit by a glow-in-the-dark phosphors, there are added buttons that allow you to recover not just the last alerts, but tell time in a second time zone, the date, alarm time, and fitness level. Even the blue face, which I though looked too blue on the website ended up being a pleasing blue-black. Overall a very nice looking watch. It's not perfect, though, and if I were to add some features it would be these: 1) The glow-in-the-dark phosphors are 1st gen Zinc Sulfide and not 2nd gen Strontium Aluminate. The latter glows brighter and longer, and would be a welcome upgrade. 2) The button feature I want the most is to dismiss an unwanted call. That's sadly unavailable. Is it patented by a competitor?

It's exactly the kind of smartwatch I needed - gives you non-intrusive notifications for predefined apps/contacts and can show some very basic data with the watch hands like the date and step count goal. To elaborate on the syncing issue: For some reason, for a couple of days the phone simply failed to sync with the device even when both were connected. Read on Fossil's site that it's most likely due to a low battery issue. Right before I ordered a new battery the app and watch started syncing again and it hasn't happened ever since.

Doesn't stay synced with my phone. I need to calibrate the watch several times a day to have the correct time. Battery life doesn't last but only a few months. It's a beautiful watch just wish it was better at being a watch.

I was looking for a traditional looking watch but one that could track physical activity as well. I bought the Fossil. It does look good, and keeps good time, but that’s pretty much the end of its usefulness. I noticed right away that the recorded steps were far less than either my iPhone or my Fitbit 2. For instance, walking 9 holes (3300 yds) should read somewhere around 8500-10000 steps, depending on how badly I’m playing. On the Fossil it says I’ve walked 4800 steps all day, not just the golf. I reached out to them but they aren’t that good on the customer service front either. I wear the watch. I like how it looks. But if I want to track activity, I take it off and put on my Fitbit

Really nice watch. It does all that they say it will do. Time, sleep tracking and alerts are all accurate and I can actually see the face and read the time in the bright daylight. It solved my problem of seeing the time outside with my previous activity trackers. I have had it for a week now so I can’t really comment accurately on battery life. So far it is perfect for me. Just what I was after and more.
