  • Simply put, if you're a big watch fan (not even necessarily smart watch) just get it....
So I'm finally getting around to leaving a review for this watch after having for like a month or so. Just a heads up my review is completed based on comparisons I will make to my Fitbit Versa as well as my original Huawei Watch and previous standard Fossil watches I've owned. Simply put, if you're a big watch fan (not even necessarily smart watch) just get it. The price is reasonable especially considering these are Fossil. if however you're looking for a smartwatch to like do more than just the basic stuff maybe this might not be the one for you It's a pretty amazing watch with decent performance and pretty alright battery life. So I'm not particularly amazing at writing reviews so what I'll do is just have a what's good and what's bad section with points. What's Good -The watch is absolutely beautiful and matches in with almost anything I wear -The watch also seems to be pretty durable I mean it's even swim proof. I've literally gone to the beach with this watch on my wrist no issues whatsoever. I've had it for a month and there have been no scratches or dings anywhere and I wear it every single day. -A lot of people have been complaining about the battery life on this thing but honestly I don't think it's that bad considering it's literally a flagship phone from 6 years ago on your wrist. I literally get anywhere between 15 hours to like a day-and-a-half depending on my usage and depending on whether or not I put in airplane mode. if you're like me and you just want a watch to be a watch sometimes and track your steps and your heart rate, leaving it in airplane mode can really stretch that battery life to like 2 days. However don't get me wrong receiving a lot of notifications every day, constantly changing music, constantly replying to messages on the watch and using the watch a lot ( I have 2 games on mine) really does impact battery life dramatically but I don't think it's that horrible. -The screen is absolutely beautiful and bright hands down. -The rotating crowns is just a pleasant thing to use like everyone should have that. -The stock Fossil watch faces are just amazing and there's so many of them I've yet to download any third-party watch faces because I'm completely satisfied with what already comes with the watch as well as a customisation of all the watch faces What's Bad -I think the performances leaves a lot to be desired. If you're using this watch solely as a watch / fitness tracker / notification glancer thing, then performance won't really be an issue however once you get into more demanding tasks (which shouldn't even be that demanding) like for example changing music, scrolling through apps (even worst opening them) scrolling through a lot of notifications (like 15 or more) or checking your calendar events for the day ( I have a pretty big calendar though), scrolling and performance overall does get a bit laggy and buggy. -Speaking of laggy and buggy I've noticed an issue with my watch not sure if it's with all watches but whenever I'm leaving the battery saving mode the watch literally freezes to the point where I press a button and I won't get a response or change in screen for even two minutes, literally. This also seems to happen whenever I put the watch to charge I'm assuming it's now updating apps in the background so that kind of takes away from like actual performance but this is really annoying sometimes and I really don't think that it's a good representation of the watch. This doesn't happen all the time however it's pretty rare. - Okay this one really upset me because I'm a humongous Fossil fan and I've always admired their good build quality and products in general but the top button, it has a different feeling and texture from the bottom button for some strange reason. As in when it's pressed there's obviously a different feeling to both buttons. The rotating crown is perfect, it's fine, however the buttons above and below it, they're very different somehow. The top one feels almost as if it's broken (it works fine just feels stiff and broken) while the bottom one feels pretty normal and I've had this issue since day one. I thought that everyday use would kind of make the button feel more normal but one month in, I'm literally pressing it right now and it feels very different from the bottom button. -Now something that might not necessarily be the watch's fault but it could literally just be the water where I am but I noticed that whenever I wash my hands for example or take a shower the silicone strap would develop a white buildup on it ( I'm thinking calcium or maybe chlorine I don't know) but why it's strange to me is that this has never happened to me with any of my other previous watches. So very strange Overall I really love my fossil Gen 4 smartwatch I'm really upset that the Gen 5 came out less than a month after I bought it which was completely unexpected. Kind of wishing I could return this one then just get a Gen 5 (wink wink @ Fossil). It's a pretty amazing watch that leaves a bit to be desired and as I said if you're looking for an actual watch this is an amazing product!!! However, if you're looking for a device to do more than just tell you the time, date, calories, heart rate and occasionally glance at a notification, if you're looking for anything more than that I don't think it's the watch for you. As an actual watch it's amazing the round face is amazing the watch faces are amazing. ... show more

  • Slick and stylish but disappointing
The simplest summary is: generally trust the reviews regarding the short battery life. I trusted my millennial powers to be able to figure out how to configure it correctly so that I could get a full day's worth of use without losing much functionality. I turned off a substantial amount of notifications (including many from vague or ambiguous apps that came pre-installed, some of which were in Chinese characters, so that's a thing), the heart rate sensor, the location sensing (which I only intended to use for runs), all gesture controls, the screen always-on function, and some other stuff. I could still barely get it to last a full day. Which is basically what it defines on the product description, which is why I only took off one star. But it's pretty infeasible for a watch to need recharging every single day, so I'm returning it after only a few days. Here are some pros and cons: PROS -Looks very good for both a mildly formal and informal setting, and there are lot of watch faces and styles to choose from -Works fantastic while the battery is alive: notifications are immediate, touch controls are zippy and feel good (with one exception listed below), media integration and connection to phone both feel great -The watch band feels very comfortable, the watch is light, and it's easy to forget I'm wearing a watch -Screen is gorgeous, bright, and informative. -Keyboard works well, too (I recommend the touch and drag to type keyboard function) CONS -The battery life, as mentioned (though it admits to being low, it's even lower than expected despite turning off a LOT of the functionality of an actual smart watch -Some heavy lagging with the touch screen at random times, taking in all the inputs after about 10 seconds. Seemed to be particularly prevalent when charging and taking off the charger -A small but important one for me: I chose a classic watch face to be more subtle, and there were three little circles on the internal radius that I could customize. I chose for the calendar date, the battery, and my next calendar event start time, but the arms on the watch would obscure the text in the small circles so there was a good chance that I wouldn't be able to read at least 1/3 of the visual shortcuts I chose at any given time. Poor interface for if you actually want to see those shortcuts, and there's not many other classic, subtle-looking watch faces to choose from based on 10 minutes of looking through the options. Now I'm going to switch to a Samsung Galaxy thanks to more substantial battery life (supposedly) and convenient timing on a sale. ... show more
