Years ago, my garage door suffered damage from a car. Recent work on the garage door to realign it revealed a gap between the door and the door frame. In my neighborhood, we do not have a rodent problem because we have a cat problem. I can see kittens getting into the garage and unable to get out, the same way they got in. Enter the FOSLUOC Garage Door Seal Top and Sides Seal Strip. A search for a door seal that is wider than the one I was a lesson in futility. So, it became time to be inventive. I will not go into what I did to use the door seal to close the gap (see photos) As you can see, the gap is nearly closed. This closure is enough to stop an incursion by the unwanted guest. I chose this door seal because of its construction. It has hard and soft sections that help close the gap. The soft section of the door seal is wider than the one in place. I was not sure that the workaround I used would work. But so far everything is good. My innovation notwithstanding, this door seal is a good choice. Under normal conditions, I would have purchased this seal to replace my old one.

Don’t use the screws included with these, they break with the most minimal torque leaving a screw half sticking out. The material of the trim is good. The trim is a durable quality that is flexible, but ridged enough to ensure a clean straight edge. They make a good seal around the edges and my garage is noticeably better at regulating temperature. I tried a few different kinds and liked these the most because of the straight edges. These probably could be painted, but the white is nice and matches well with alabaster white color. Put these up when it’s warm. The trim is rolled up when shipped and needs to be laid in the sun for about 30 minutes to warm up and flatten out. When you are cutting them, cut the silicon flap with a box cutter and use pruning shears to snap through the thicker part easy. I installed it myself in about an hour, it actually took a little longer because a few screw heads broke off and I had to pry them out. Mine broke even with pre-drilled holes. The adhesive is strong and can hold the weight of the trim while you drill and screw them in. It made installation much easier. You can pull the trim off and readjust without the glue peeling off the trim. Just make sure you clean the surface first to make it stick better. I didn’t like the look of the white screw covers that are supposed to mask the screws. It looked better just with the screws flush against the trim.

Only problem is the sun fades the plastic quite quickly. Definitely paint it after install otherwise yellowing will occur quickly… like 1 month quickly…

I had original rigid aluminum base with vinyl insert seals. The vinyl became brittle and pieces started to break off. These new ones are all nice, soft silicon based. The home is in North Dakota so I think they’ll also stand up to the frigid cold weather better, too. After I removed the old ones, I thoroughly cleaned and dried the surface on the garage where new ones mount. Pro Tip: if you have nut head style screws on your originals, keep those - I removed mine with a power drill and 6mm socket attachment and they all came out like butter. I re-used them because the new screw heads that come with the kit were Phillips head and that would have been a pain to screw in one-by-one.
