Five years ago we bought an older home with an existing Overhead Door garage opener that did not have an outside keypad. I added a Genie brand keypad to the Overhead opener which worked great until a recent accident knocked it out of commission. In searching for a replacement I found this OTLEER brand which sells for about half the price of the Genie, and decided to give it a try. So far I'm impressed. The OTLEER has almost the exact same form function and keypad layout as the Genie, I wouldn't be surprised if they were in fact made by the same company under different names. The instruction sheet is clearly written and concise, well-illustrated and printed on nice glossy paper. The pairing process actually seemed easier with the OTLEER than the Genie, and despite having to play around with the model input number, the keypad was up and running in about 10 minutes. The wireless range is very strong, I tested it from over twice the distance as the Genie was mounted and it worked flawlessly. If you have an older Genie or Overhead Door opener this keypad should work well for you, although you may have to fidget with it a bit during the pairing. This opener was identical to the Genie keypad opener that came with my unit. My original keypad stopped working, so I got this one to replace it. The only differences are that there is a different shaped plastic cover that goes over the keypad (I actually could have switched it with the original), it doesn't have the Genie logo on the battery cover, and there appears to be one extra step in the programming. I was able to get it programed pretty quickly, and I was able to install it right where the old one was without having to move the screws. All that, and it costs substantially less. The construction of this remote seems good quality, feels like strong plastic, aesthetically pleasing. I have a Genie garage door opener installed about 2005. Was not sure if it is Intellicode 1 or Intellicode 2 version. The Genie webpage was no help. I guessed Intellicode 2, but was unable to successfully complete the programming sequence. So I changed my procedure to Intellicode 1, and programming was successful. Good to know this, since nothing on the opener seems to indicate which version receiver is installed. The instructions were easy to read, unambiguous, and apparently correct, since this device is now opening my garage door. As a double check, I entered a wrong code, and the opener did not activate, good to know! ... show more

I got this to replace an opener that had worn out buttons. This looks very similar, and works well. The only thing I don't like about it are the beeps. Beeping is not a good thing. It draws unnecessary attention, and is just plain annoying. It also serves no purpose, because these buttons have a very obvious button press feel to them. The instructions were actually well written and easy to follow. I was able to program this in less than five minutes including climbing the ladder. Only issue is that the battery chamber seems to allow the battery too much room at the bottom, but there aren't any connection issues so it may be fine. I am not going to mark it down as that didn't affect the operability. If you follow the instructions you should be quickly up and running. ... show more

The only issue with the install was figuring out whether our Genie garage door opener was an Intellicode 1 or 2 - not an issue with this keypad. It took 6 times of going through the set-up procedure to get the opener to recognize the keypad. The instructions that came with the keypad are fairly clear to understand. The quality of the unit itself is a plus. It seems to be durable and would survive the wide range of climates. Some major disappointments is the complicated process to get this unit to sync with my garage door opener. You have to write down 2 sets of codes from the door opener switches which are not easily accessible. Then you have to enter those converted codes into the controller and hope that it works. When I first received the unit there were 2 AAA batteries already installed in it - which made me think that it was used and returned. The controller did not light up or work at first with the batteries that were in it, so I put brand new batteries in it and still nothing. You have to jostle around the batteries because there is too much play in the battery compartment and if they don’t make contact, it won’t work. Once I forced the batteries all the way up into the compartment I was able to make contact and get a signal but I still have yet to get it programmed properly. ... show more

This has been installed for a couple of weeks and lost its connection to the opener twice. If this was the only way to get into the garage that would be a major issue. Save yourself the grief and get the genuine Genie item.
