Having seen the FoodSaver on TV for years I finally decided to stop waiting and get one, I cost myself hundreds if not THOUSANDS by waiting this long! Waste not, want not...Something my grandparents taught me. I must have watched the infomercials so much that I did not even need to read the instructions, I knew how...But the directions are clear and the machine should become intuitive to use for almost any buyer.. Well, taking them on their word of food life extending by using this machine as true, just knowing that using it now is saving me money. I went through my freezer and repackaged my not so old tater tots into easy to grab portions. Getting some steaks as part of a package deal at a local grocer I was able to make 3 portions of Beef Teriyaki, 2 single portions and a large portion for 2-4 people..Putting my tater tots into portions makes it so when I want some, I don't have to fuss with a bag full of icy little tots..corn o the cob in the freezer CHECK, sealed and saved, my whole bean coffee,CHECK, sealed and saved...Giant bag of dry cat food to save money sealed and saved CHECK!! As you can tell, I am enjoying this kitchen appliance more than I thought I would, and I thought I would as I understand the science of the vacuum seal. Having had mail order meat from several companies over the years, I know they can linger around the freezer for a long time.. I do have just a couple issues, but they are not big ones. Those issues are as follows. #1. PRICE...The price is still a little higher than it could be, but not by much for the unit I have, the 4840. And while it came with a nice starter kit, a unit this nice and in this price point should have a little bit more to get people started, like at least one small container, or perhaps one of the jar sealer attachments. #2, The power cord needs to be about 12" longer for this model. Not everyone has modern numbers of outlets in their kitchen area. Having said that, I still find the value of this unit already paying off. Just knowing I am not throwing away food that was good a few days ago is kind of a relief. I will see how much money it saves me as I already was not prone to wasting food, but was wasting money at the store due to not having a way to keep food as fresh as I want it for more than about a month in my freezer. Now I don't have to worry about that at least. The zipper lock Fresh saver bags are really nice, being able to split a package of ham into portions so I only have to handle what we are currently eating is nice..Will be using the jar sealer tonight to store some dry goods in Ball Mason jars, potato flakes, sugar, etc. I even was able to save a nice portion of a pot roast by freezing it in a rubbermaid container, then putting the cube like frozen portion into a self made storage bag, my first one, using the roll of bag material and build in cutter...No fuss, no muss. EASY. One other point. The space I am creating in my freezer and pantry by vacuum sealing is starting to show now too as a benefit. No more superfluous packaging for my storage. Space for MORE actual food. Overall I am pleased with the units function and look. Will try and update this review with durability update as time passes.On to find more things to use my FoodSaver on tonight..If you find you are throwing a lot of food out from freezer burn, this machine will pay for itself after a month I believe. If I can manage to keep things for more than a month that is a game changer for my wallet!!! Dont wait any longer if you have been considering one of these. PS..I am a sole caregiver to my 91 year old grandma, and as she gets older money has gotten tighter. If I can make my/her money go further, or do more by spending less, then that is always a good thing. Food from a box is OK for a treat, but real food cant survive unless its stored right..

Works well. I needed it because the hand held sealer that is attached to the plastic role dispenser is no longer usable. I needed a sealer for the ready made bags. As of 9/14/2026 this vacuum sealer has stopped working. My attempts to get a replacement through Food Saver are unsuccessful because Food Saver does not recognize the model number of this vacuum sealer. There is no way to chat with them or contact them otherwise.

My Food Saver has been part of my life for years and has been an enormous convenience for my wife and me. I have sealed up literally hundreds of single-servings for weeknight meal use. But my old machine stopped sealing and, though I was tempted to put a new seal kit into it, I thought: "why not just go to a new one"? I am now on the second of the new models, neither of which have operated properly right out of the box, the first of which was returned for replacement. The problem with both is exactly the same: inconsistent vacuum and sealing. By that I mean that when you insert a prepared bag into the machine, it is supposed to pump the air out, the vacuum pump should automatically stop, and then seal the bag. In both of the new model machines, the automatic vacuum/seal process worked only (roughly) once in ten times. Instead, the vacuum level would rise to a diminished level, and if left alone would sit there and run all day, unless you pushed the seal button. And then you'd have a less-than-adequately vacuumed bag of food. I've finally found a way to make it work properly, however, and that is to actually lift the contents of the bag with your hand, and support it at the level of the vacuum/seal slot. That works about 90% of the time. And to answer in advance, yes my bags are cut with 4" of space between the food and the edge of the bag, and yes, I was using Food Saver brand bags. Next time, I'll simply set something in front of the machine to support the bag, and contents, but I shouldn't have to for what this product cost. Will I send the second machine back: no, because I need it to make my life easier. Am I satisfied with the downward evolution of Food Saver Products: most decidedly not! Update, 7/27: Just made another attempt to use this piece of junk, and it would now only draw a partial vacuum on the bags before sealing, no matter what the manipulation of the bag. I am extremely disappointed in the product and threw it in the dumpster. I have no complaint whatsoever with Amazon in this matter and have just ordered, as a replacement a Nesco VS-12 which was both America's Test Kitchen and Good Housekeepings' #1 pick for household food savers.

I bought this to help manage family groceries, especially the cheese and deli meat we snack on during living-room movie nights. Last Sunday, I portioned a pack of chicken breasts for the freezer, and the machine pulled in the bag and sealed it with very little fuss. That made cleanup and meal prep easier than wrestling with zipper bags. The starter kit gave me enough bags to get going, too. One small annoyance: it takes a few tries to get the bag length right, and I have to pay attention when cutting it. It also takes up more counter space than I expected, so I tuck it away between uses.

The first time I used the Food-Saver 2-in-1 it worked as expected. However, subsequently I could not get a seal. Sometimes the seal would be partial. Other times it would not seal at all. After numerous attempts I decided to return the item and actually printed a return label and boxed the Food-Saver up. I was going to give the Food-Saver a one star rating. But the next day (after reading the directions in detail) I tried again. I had problems in sealing wet or very moist foods. Once I figured that out the Food-Saver never failed. I have had it for one week and have sealed a lots of fresh food, left-overs, spaghetti sauce, carrots, beets, celery, bell peppers, apples, etc. Now I make sure no moisture gets near the seal. With very moist or wet foods the accessory vacuum quickly sucks out the air when using the vacuum zipper bags (that are reusable). From Amazon I purchased additional Food-Saver bags and heat seal rolls in various sizes. These are not cheep bags - in fact they are expensive for storage bags. But these bags can easily be used again numerous times. For example, when using the heat seal rolls I use more than needed. To get the food out I simply cut the bag just below the seal, remove the food I need, and then reseal the bag. Only an inch or two of the roll is used. A minor problem: restoring the accessory vacuum back inside the Food-Saver. I am sure there is a way to stuff the hose back in, but I have not been successful yet. The Food-Saver is a must-have item in the kitchen and will save me from throwing out lots of spoiled, molded or discolored food in the garbage (saving $$$ in the long run). In addition, the Food-Saver is a very attractive item on display.

I’ve been really enjoying this handheld vacuum sealer. It’s very useful, especially for storing food that you plan to use later. It helps keep things more organized and fresh, which is great for meal prep and freezer storage. One of my favorite things about it is the size. It’s compact and cordless, so it doesn’t take up much space at all — perfect for smaller kitchens. I also like that it’s rechargeable, so there’s no need to worry about constantly buying batteries. The reusable bags are also a nice feature. They’re easy to wash (I’ve been washing them by hand), which makes them convenient to use again. The sealer has two modes: vacuum and marinate. I’ve only used the vacuum function so far, but it works well and is very easy to use. One thing I did notice is that with one of the reusable bags, after about a week, I saw a little bit of air getting back inside. I had to reseal it again. I’m not sure if that specific bag had a small leak or if that’s something that can happen over time, especially after storing food for more than a few days. Overall, the product feels like good quality and works well for everyday use. I’m happy with it and would recommend it for anyone looking for a simple and space-saving vacuum sealer.

I really was excited to purchase this product. I used it at least one a day. I recieved it on May 3rd. I've had it for almost 4 months and it won't work! I've never put it in water. I only used a damp cloth to surface clean it. It shows green being fully charged and wont turn on!!!! It's flashing red and when I Google it it says it's been submerged in water! Ummmm NO! When I try to do a warranty it's not even showing this model of handhelds!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!
