  • Buy a roll of heavy duty packing tape
Great idea but at least half the time the little valve fails to hold vacuum. I also found the many times it was hard to get bag to work in the first place. It often took several tries before my pump could start sucking the air out. Even if one worked at first rarely would it hold vacuum on reuse. I had a roll of heavy duty packing tape on the counter and thought I'd try a piece to seal the valve after the pump stopped. Worked very well. I cut a piece about 1 1/2 inches long , fold over an edge to make a tag for later removal, and put it on as soon as I move the pump. With this addition I can easily reuse bags. Packing tape (heavy duty) is easier to work with than duct tape and so far is doing the job. ... show more

  • High Expectations, But They Don't Hold a Seal
The concept is great - put in a zip lock bag, use the small vacuum device to create a vacuum and it's done! Much better than dragging out the entire Foodsaver unit. These things simply don't work. The first time you use it it stays sealed for several minutes, and subsequent seals are only for several seconds. We use our FoodSaver unit all the time, love it, and were looking for a quick alternative, but this clearly doesn't do it. Unfortunately we purchased a couple of the packs so are stuck with them as we only started using them after having them for several months. Word to the wise: if you feel like you have to try these (like I did), don't order more than one pack or you'll be stuck with them. ... show more

  • Works great, and so economical!
I have been using this system and these bags for 2 months now. I love it! I read reviews before I bought it, because I have a tiny kitchen but wasn't sure about this type of setup compared to the larger heat-sealed system. THIS WORKS BETTER THAN I EXPECTED based on reviews. I place an open sandwich bag inside the vacuum bag (unsealed), seal the vacuum bag and then vacuum. The result is that, so far, every one of my bags is still sealing perfectly (I got the idea from a review). I store cheese, meat, vegetables like cut onions, cucumbers: everything I can think of, I try. It really does keep things fresh much longer. Nice for a person that sometimes forgets things are in the frig until I run across them later. No more mystery yuck! Pretty fun! I put these bags on Subscribe & Save. So far, I have had to skip 2 months of orders since they are lasting so much longer than I expected. ... show more

  • waste of money
I am changing my review from one star to four stars, as I have given my negative review some thought since I have since used the last of my bags for current pantry items and I am happy with them. Some people say that they do not work in the freezer, I haven't tried that method, but when I seal they seem to work excellently, as long as I am not using powder such as flour or powdered mil (my negative review prior was due to disappointment with sealing of such dry goods.. I would not recommend the bags for those type of items. Another reviewer posted that sometimes they leak, so I have opted to add an extra layer of protection by adding a piece of duct tape over the hole. That should do the trick. My conscience is now clear! =) ... show more

  • Good product; terrible customer service
These bags work very well. It took several tries before Food Saver's customer service responded to my question concerning their use for the freezer. Yes, they do fine in the freezer. I have used, and then re-used the bags in the freezer. But if you have any other questions for Food Saver, good luck. It has been over a month since I asked a simple question. They first replied by asking questions about their Meal Saver device that I use. After I responded, they asked again. And again. I am still waiting for a reply. ... show more

  • Great Idea for sealing up food, but are not re-usable
I do like the way these bags work to vacuum seal up perishable foods tightly. My only complaint is that some foods will cause a micro hole in the bag and therefore not seal tightly even though they appear to at first. The air leaks out slowly. So it depends on what you put in there. For example: Coffee beans work great, but ground coffee doesn't. It seems the slightest speck of the ground coffee gets caught in the sliding seal part and loses it's vacuum over time. I tried to seal my dog chewies like greenies, or denta sticks but the edges poked a teeny hole in the bag so therefore bag did not seal properly. If you save these chewies type products you know how quickly they get hard and stale. I also tried to reseal a few bags and some worked and some didn't. I guess they are a one time use product so I will not purchase them again due to the cost. They don't come with the gadget to suck the air out, but I had already had one from years ago and it worked well. I am still giving a 4 star review because when they work as a one time product, with the right food such as rice, they are great. ... show more

  • Work Great
I use these for perishable refrigerated foods that tend to deteriorate over time. Best example is cheese. These work like regular zipper bags to open and close but are designed so you can evacuate air with the accessory suction nozzle on the FoodSaver. Using these, cheese will hold for several months with little mold growth. And I can open for use and reseal as I use the food. These work well. I can use a single bag over-and-over. This also brings the cost of the bags way down. Have learned to label them with masking tape so I can change contents and labeling (after washing and drying the bag). One caution: not wet-food friendly. Liquid tends to get sucked out of the bag along with the air, into the nozzle. So; best with low moisture foods unless you can partially freeze the item first. Recommend. ... show more

  • Excellent for storing leftovers in the fridge.
I used to use another brand of vacuum seal storage bags for leftovers, but they have been discontinued. I was contemplating buying a vacuum heat-sealing machine from FoodSaver, but when I saw these bags, I decided to forego the expense of the machine, and bought a good supply of these bags. They are heavier and seal better than any other bags I have used. Fortunately, the hand-held vacuum pump from the other brand worked fine. If you don't have one of the other brand's pumps, I recommend buying FoodSaver's FSFRSH0051 FreshSaver Handheld Vacuum pump. ... show more
