  • Great design and performance for charging multiple devices
This is such a nifty portable solar charger. Today was the first sunny day since I got it, and I put it out in my backyard with two Amazon Fire tablets plugged into the USB A ports. One went from 48% to 100% in three hours or so, and the other went from 6% to 100% in about six hours. Because it's so easy to move, I didn't mind moving it 2 or 3 times during the day to make sure it was in direct sunlight. I have a similar, but smaller, folding solar panel that puts out 21 watts. It has 3 individual panels, which are all about the same size as the 6 individual panels in this charger. That's a polite way of saying that I don't think you'll ever actually get 60 watts out of this charger. :) One of my favorite parts about this product is the smart packaging. It folds up into what looks like a mini attaché case, roughly the size of a 10" iPad but about 2" thick. There are straps with buckles to keep it from unfolding, and it even has a built-in carrying handle. It's rather adorable. Despite the small size when folded up, it is fairly heavy to be carrying around all day while hiking, for example. The marketing pictures show someone hiking with this strapped to his back. I don't find this to be terribly realistic, partially because of the weight, but more so because it's quite long when unfolded. I suspect it would likely swing back and forth annoyingly while walking. I have not yet used the USB C or DC plug charging ports. I'll update my review if they don't work as expected. 5/5 stars. This is a really well-designed and useful product. The only downside I can see is that it's a little pricey, but I don't think it's overpriced for what it offers. ... show more

  • Quality Built, Perfect For Travel
With external dimensions no bigger than a small handbag, the 60W Foldable Solar Panel from LumOPal is a quality collection of photovoltaic cells just waiting for solar energy to stimulate current flow. It’s my understanding the the individual 10W panels are wired in parallel, which is the best option for mixed-lighting conditions. If one or more of the panels is not fully illuminated by the sun, those that are will continue to provide power. In other words, the n=6 panels operate independently of one another. This is definitely the best set-up, at least in my opinion, for a flexible, multi-panel solar panel array. Especially one that might be used in unpredictable sunlight or positioning conditions. The compact dimensions (10.5” L x 9” W x 3” D) and light weight (3.75 lb) make this solar panel perfect for travel. It folds-up neatly, and supplied with quality buckles to secure the collapsed panels and a heavy-duty handle for transport. If nothing else, it’s a well designed and executed package of solar panels. Inside the side zip pocket there’s a collection of wires (C-type and DC), adapters (DC conversion), and ports for connecting devices, including a power bank or similar to store the solar panel energy. According to the listing description, the ports run fast charge PD and QC protocols via the C-type and A-type USB ports, respectively. However, I did notice that only one of the A-type ports was labeled “QC3.0”. The other A-type was simply labeled “USB”. So I don’t know if both USB-A ports run the QC protocol, as advertised. And I don’t have a compatible device to check. So maybe another reviewer can provide insight on this particular issue. The only drawback for me in the need for a backstop or fixture of some sort to prop & position the flexible panels towards the sun. And then track. I’ll most likely have to rely on DIY skills and scrap materials to build a portably stand. It will have to be 1) compact and lightweight for travel, 2) rigid enough to support the panels, and 3) maneuverable enough to track the sun’s path. Of course, I could always just lie the panels on the ground, and will do so until a prop becomes available. But it would have been nice if the panels had built-in stands that fold away, like I’ve seen with other flexible solar panels. Unfortunately, our weather has not allowed me to test the panel for output. But as soon as there’s a break in the clouds that lets the sun shine I will update this review accordingly. But or now, I feel confident enough in the build quality to endorse the panel with a 4-star recommendation. In fact, build-wise alone it’s a 5-star. But until I know the collection/output characteristics I’ll hold 1-star back. At the time of order the panel was selling for $79.99. This is a competitive price, considering the build quality and specs. Definitely as good or better than other portable solar panels of similar design. If the performance pans out, as I suspect it will, this panel will certainly be a winner. I will update this review once I have some data to share. ... show more

  • Very powerful
Top notch power output when it comes to camping/portable solar panels. To be fair, I have no way of testing 60W claim directly, but it did charge my phone, iPad and wireless speakers all at the same time, with former 2 being charged using "fast charge" (9v). I did not test QC3 claim as I do not have any compatible devices. I also very much like the fact that it folds neatly and is very easy to shove it in the backpack or attach it to the outside with the straps. That said, while the panel itself rocks, the accessories could be better. The included USB-C to USB-C cable didn't work for me out of the box. I tested USB-C port with another cable I had, and that one worked without a hitch. Weirdly, I re-tested the included suspect USB-C cable with another plug-in charger in the house, and it also worked, so I don't know what happened there. The pack does not include any USB-A cables. At this price point, I feel it's reasonable to expect a pair of USB-A to USB-C (or micro USB) cables thrown in, given that those gadgets are the most used in the field. It would also be nice if the manufacturer were to include a couple of stakes to attach to the hoops on the panel to keep one side of it off the ground and angled towards the sun. ... show more
