Our home we built 49 years ago has gone through several major upgrades and modernizations. Yet our kitchen has not be updated except with granite counter tops and back splash in the first decade of this century, since 1992, when all cabinets and appliances were replaced. It’s an open design with food prep area on the south and a dinette area in the north end. The fluorescent fixture shown was installed during the ’92 remodel and covers the food prep end. It contained two, unwieldy, u-shaped, fluorescent tubes and obligatory ballast power supply. It is approximately 23“x24”. Its diffuser did a good job of reducing shadows and was sufficiently bright and the light coverage was good. Finding the right light temperature (color) tubes has always been a hassle and when one goes out, we always replaced two because the other was sure soon to follow. And it did not look nice if we had to replace one tube with a different light temp (color) tube. This week, the ballast finally died. With the rapid advances in LED lighting technology, I knew there had to be a better idea. But most LED ‘fixtures’ are much more compact than our current fixture and virtually none I found were 2’ by 2’ and none matched the wood decor. I feared that the four square-feet of unexposed pop-corn ceiling behind the old fixture mounting plate would never be the same as what has seen the light of day for 30 years. I refuse to refinish and/or paint ceilings – I would contract that - so that would be an expensive side cost of replacing the existing fixture (which you may find butt ugly but it’s ‘grown’ on me.) So… I found this product. I read all the specs and dimensions and about the remote control and the memory and the app. I doubt I’ll ever use the app for my purposes. But the engineering of this unit saved another hassle of a job and cost. That of replacing two, 2-way light switches that serve this light fixture and that are at opposite ends of the kitchen/dinette with two new, dimmable, solid state 2-way switches which would entail a total of eight electrical connections between the two switches – hot, neutral, ground, and traveler. And that ‘can’ be confusing and tedious work. The memory in the light remembers the brightness/color when switched off from either switch and brings them back from either switch when turned back on! Don’t need to reset the remote every time. Delightful. My first question was whether 36 watts of LED light would be enough but being well aware of the 1:10 ratio of LED to incandescent/fluorescent power draw and lumen output, I thought it might. The thin profile height of the unit (0.9”) was perfect for fit within the fixture. Installation only required thirty minutes (I had to drill some mounting holes in the metal base plate of the old existing fixture – no sweat, no big deal). The quarter turn mounting system with the LED is slick. Then my #2 concern, will it fill the 2-foot square diffuser with light or leave shadows on the edges? The photo answers that concern. Perfect! The photo is in the ‘Nightlight’ mode with some twilight coming in the window and light temp (color) probably between 4000k and 5000k. I didn’t take a full bright photo because it is so bright that it tends to wash out detail and has a lot of flare on phone cam. It’s PLENTY bright at full throttle! My wife easily used the remote to set her preferred light temp (color) and brightness setting for the task or mood at hand. Easy installation, salvaged an old ceiling fixture, and have a very versatile and full feature light. Win, win, win! I didn’t mind supplying the two AAA batteries for the remote. I usually have two dozen on hand. Obviously, I can’t address longevity at this point but I’ll update this review if I find it less than satisfactory. I doubt that’s going to happen. The light comes on when it feels like it. After a few times NOT coming on I have to unscrew the light fixture and rotate it 180 degrees, re-screw the light into the ceiling and then it comes on. It does not like to work when I vacuum the room. The wiring came apart first time cuz the wire attachment is NOT very strong. Had to rewire it twice. The remote control NEVER worked no matter how many times I tried new batteries, thus everything I could think of. Luckily the light is bright to begin with instead of being stuck with a low or zero amount of light I can at least see. The whole experience continues. One level light. I never know when/if the light is going to turn on. I really wanted to be able to have a night-light too. Not happy. ... show more

Best 25 dollars I’ve spent. My bedroom had a light fixture in it and a wall switch when I moved in, it didn’t work no matter what we tried but it had current to it, yes it even stumped the electrician. So needless to say it’s pointless to have a light that you are unable to shut off lol This one was perfect for that problem, super bright, adjustable light tones, timer, night light and extremely easy to install. ... show more

I absolutely love my new light. We just bought our first home and it needs a lot of little things. One there was NO LIGHT in the Living Room. We had lamps but we wanted something we could brighten without getting up out of our chair. So a light with a remote control like the TV. Perfect. The 12 inch LED lihkt fit flat against our ceiling, lights up the whole room, dims, brightens and remembers where it was if we turn it off and turn it back on. One small negative, The remote takes AAA batteries which it doesn’t come with, so remember to get some or you can’t use the light but the Convenience is worth it. ... show more
