  • Love it!!
I got this as a gift for my dad, since he would not buy one for himself. I knew Fluke meters were supposed to be good, but this is really good and worth every penny. My dad's old meter had trouble measuring continuity, thermalcouples and low voltage dc. The Fluke is incredible it picks up and displays the measurements quickly and without fluctuation in the readings. They may be expensive compared to cheap $5-$30 meters (what he used to use) but it truly is worth every penny. He has only had it for a couple of days, but it got him back in his shop working on projects for fun rather than out of necessity, so for me it's priceless. ... show more

  • Durable, accurate
I have worked as a broadcast radio engineer for 40+ years. I am also a radio ham operator who builds my own equipment, and a general electronics repair tech. As a cheapskate I never bought expensive metering gear, just deal with cheaper devices and replaced as necessary. After one cheapie crapped out on me in the middle of a project I decided time to treat myself and bought this Fluke. Man, the difference is dramatic! Just picking it up you feel the quality. Easy to read screen, durable, capable, with many features I never had before but know use just because they're so handy. This is a well rounded test device with all the basics and then some. Treat yourself to one of these and you'll never be sorry. ... show more

  • It's a Fluke, a funny name for excellent quality.
Yes, it's a funny name, but it is the best in the industry. You pay a lot AND you get a lot.

  • I find it very easily readable in most lighting conditions from most angles
Replacing two ancient analog multimeters for DIY electrical & auto work. Probably overkill for my needs but Fluke's reputation for high quality instruments for professionals I work with was my excuse for the splurge. Highly rated in many professional reviewers. Many of the under $50 and particularly those under $25 DMMs have questionable overload protection for high voltage & high current spikes. Overload protection is not so important for most electronics uses, but I will use mine more for 120V & 240V services which can be lethal and I am not an electrical engineer or electrician. Some of the Amazon reviews complain the 115 does not measure millivolts. It does measure down to 1 mVDC via the autoranging feature, it just doesn't have a separate setting for mV. It does not measure micro volts. A few other reviewers complain about low contrast, glare and viewing angle of the display. I find it very easily readable in most lighting conditions from most angles. If I go looking for it, I can finds some glare from a light source just to the side or my head but in 95% of the positions I tried, there was no glare at all. If the room lighting is low, the backlight makes the readings easily readable. It is unreadable from a lower angle from the top, but easily readable from lower angles to the side and from the bottom. If you can't read it, move it. Very high build quality, this meter will outlive me, yellow rubber holster will help when it is inevitably dropped. Excellent lead connections, shielded for safety, the unshielded old style connectors on my ancient analog meters were always working loose & erratic so I spent as much time troubleshooting my meter as my project. Some of the description on the Amazon page is inaccurate. My model 115 arrived with a pair of TL75 PVC plastic leads, the Amazon page states the leads are the more flexible silicone rubber ones, this is NOT true. Check out fluke.com for a trustworthy description of the features, specs and what's-in-the-box for this meter. Meter came exactly as described on fluke.com. 9V battery IS required and IS included (a quality name brand Energizer, not a never heard of brand). Meter is made in China but there is nothing of questionable build quality I (or many professional reviewers) can find. ... show more

  • The Standard: Fluke 115 DMM
So I started to buy test and measurement equipment for an at-home, self-study electronics lab. Back in 95-98, I remember using $300+ Fluke DMM that we checked out to do our labwork in school. So I was accustomed to the Fluke name and what they stand up for. When it came time to start acquiring and building the lab itself, I knew that I wanted a Fluke DMM. At first I was going to get an v87 that had micro-amp ratings but that meter goes in the $300 price range. All I needed was a good, solid, rugged enough meter that wouldn't break or shatter if it flew off the workbench. The Fluke 115 has met my match and wallet. The main selection knob is large and can't miss the 'CLICK' sound it makes when switching from one setting to the next. Two important features that I liked include: A safety feature that reminds the user to switch lead inputs from voltage to current when measuring current. In this meter, the voltage plugs into the right, and the current (amps) into the left the common is in the middle. Also handy, is that this meter has a back light, in purple none of the less. And since it was built by Fluke, the meter can be calibrated by sending it off the Fluke and get a calibration certificate. The reasons why the meter is $140.00 is the following. 1. Built by Fluke Corporation 2. Quality of raw materials 3. Oversize push buttons that doesn't sag at all 4. Calibration service is offered 5. Built to ISO 9001 Quality Control Standards For building a lab, I needed equipment that is well known and of quality built construction. Nothing is more frustrating than a meter malfunctioning or breaks apart when on a live circuit. If your serious about your work, or if you are serious about safety considerations, this Fluke 115 has basic functionality but at a price point of affordability. Please, skip the 10 dollar meters and skip the 50-60 "hobby type" meters. When accuracy is on the line, Fluke is dead on. ... show more
