The valve replaced an older ball-float and valve setup in a Mansfield 160 toilet that’s about 20 years old. It was easy and quick to install the valve though the low toilet tank didn’t allow me to install it at the recommended 3 inches above the fill tube. Still, that wasn’t difficult or a problem, per se. The new valve doesn’t fill the tank and bowl nearly as fast as the old valve did. In fact, it’s outright slow to fill both, and the resulting flush isn’t as powerful. The float adjustment on the valve is easy and simple but the bowl-fill valve took some monkeying. The valve was easy and affordable. But, I believe an exact replacement for the old valve would have been best. ... show more

What truly impressed me was the Quick Install Guide included in the box—hands down the clearest, most complete, and easy-to-follow instructions I’ve ever seen for any product.     • Easy to install and customize.

This was extremely easy to install and customize. Simply unscrew the water line and nut on the old fill valve and remove it. Then place this one in the tank and screw the nut on and connect the water. Make sure you turn off the water and hold down the flush lever to get rid of as much water as you can from the tank first. I was able to hold the old valve in place after removing the nut so I could place a pitcher under the hole to catch the remaining water. Once connected, you can turn the valve next to the soft tube to adjust the water flow or turn the knob above the float arm to adjust how much water goes into the toilet. The whole process took me a few minutes and the most difficult part was getting to the correct spot on the toilet due to tight spacing. I like how easily it can be adjusted once installed. No need to remove lines or anything, just turn the knob. The valve is no quieter than the OEM one, but it is also no louder when the fill knob is opened all the way. If you close that little knob a bit, the toilet will get noisier. EDIT: I realized some of the noise I was hearing was because the water shut-off wasn't open all the way. Once I opened it, this became very quiet and it fills very quickly. One thing I will point out is that, while the description says you can adjust how much water is added to the tank and can control how much water is used during a flush, this may not work with your toilet. In my case, if I do not have it fill to the same level as before, the toilet doesn't flush unless I hold the handle down longer, resulting in using the same amount of water overall. ... show more

    • Easy to Install and Configure--Better Than the Prior Generation

I replaced my long-serving prior generation Fluidmaster red-top valves with these. The ones I replaced were 18 years old in a Florida house with no filtering upstream of the valves, so they held up great! But all things come to an end, and when one started having a small leak in the top seal, I figured it was time to replace both toilets at once and be done with it for another however many years. These went in perfectly, replacing older Fluidmaster 450s. The seal on the bottom was easy and secure. Setting the fill height was a big improvement over the older model--I didn't have to worry about the works running into the side of the water closet. The next big improvement was being able to set the bowl fill level, which the old valves just filled to a fixed level. Installation was smooth, adjustment was easy. They're both flushing and closing securely a month later with no weird stuff like whining/whistling noises (as happens with other brands.) Highly recommended! ... show more
