  • If I can install this toilet part so can you
Update 7/4/2022: This gasket is holding up well and I am proud that I was able to install it without much previous knowledge of plumbing. If you are hesitating purchasing this product because you are not sure if you will be able to install it yourself, just buy it, it's so easy a monkey could install it. And if you for some reason get stuck during the installation product there are dozens of You Tube videos that walk you through the entire installation process. I must have installed it correctly because our toilet has been working fine ever since. Original Review: I am not a plumber and I don't play one on t.v., lol. I have tinkered with toilets in the past, but the only part that I have ever changed out is the fill valve which was pretty easy to do. Fluidmaster happened to be the fill valve manufacturer and that went smoothly so I decided to try their toilet to bowl gasket kit to fix my toilet. The toilet in our apartment started leaking from the toilet tank when you flush the toilet. You can get the water to stop running out on the floor by tightening the bolts on the underside of the toilet tank with a wrench. This has to be done anytime someone sits on the toilet for more than a few minutes. Tightening the toilet tank bolts all the time was getting old fast. Literally every time someone used the bathroom the toilet tank would start leaking again creating a big mess. Using a wrench to tighten the bolts constantly was not a long term solution, so I hopped on Amazon to find a solution. The Fluidmaster Tank To Bowl Gasket and Bolt set includes everything you need to replace the gasket inside of your toilet tank as well as the bolts. There are 2 bolts, 4 rubber washers, 4 metal washers, 4 nuts, 2 bolts, and a gasket included. First you need to make sure that this kit will work with your toilet. You need to measure the opening in your toilet tank where the current gasket sits. If you have a 2" opening then you are good to go and this kit will work perfectly for you. This kit claims to be easy to install. I was a bit overwhelmed at first, but then I searched the Internet and found all kinds of tutorials which put my mind at ease and convinced me that I could fix the toilet. The gasket in this set is made from sponge rubber so that it does not breakdown easily in the toilet tank. The metal washers are made of stainless steel. The bolts are made of brass which is resistant to rust and corrosion. The bolts measure 5/16" x 2 3/4" long. The entire kit has a one year warranty. When I lifted the lid off the toilet tank, you could see the rusted bolts holding the toilet tank onto the toilet. They definitely needed to be replaced, they were disgusting they were so filthy and rusted. You will know that your toilet needs a new gasket if you see water leaking between the toilet tank and the bowl after you flush the toilet. To change the toilet's gasket you need a flathead screwdriver, the longer the better, an adjustable wrench or wrenches in various sizes, a replacement gasket, replacement bolts and washers, and a bucket. When you replace the bolts inside of the toilet tank keep in mind that the rubber washer should be up against the toilet tank. This is to keep the tank from cracking as you tighten the bolt. Be careful not to overtighten. The rubber washers also prevent leaks around the toilet bolts. How to replace your toilet gasket: Step 1: Turn off the water using the shut off valve, usually located near the floor behind the toilet. Step 2: Flush the toilet. Hold the toilet flushing handle in the down position so that the water continues to flush down until all the water is gone from the toilet bowl. Step 3: Remove the toilet tank lid and set it aside out of your way. Step 4: Use a sponge to soak up any water left inside of the toilet tank. You want the toilet tank to be as dry as possible inside. Step 5: Disconnect the water line from the toilet tank. Try to loosen it by hand and only use a wrench as a last resort because it can cause damage to the plastic piece. Step 6: Drain any remaining water in the supply line into a bucket. Step 7: Use a wrench to loosen the tank bolts nuts on the underside of the toilet. You may need to use the long screwdriver placed inside of the tank to unscrew the bolt while using a wrench to remove the nut underneath the tank. Step 8: Lift the toilet tank off of the toilet bowl and set it on its side on a towel. Step 9: Remove the old gasket from the toilet tank. Step 10: Put the new gasket back exactly the way the old one was before you removed it. Make sure that the gasket slides all the way so that it fits over the flush valve nut. Step 11: Put a metal washer and then a rubber washer inside the bolt and slide it through one of the holes in the bottom of the toilet tank. Repeat this with the second bolt. Step 12: On the ends of the bolts at the bottom of the toilet tank put a rubber washer on each bolt and then a metal washer. Step 13: Screw a nut onto the end of each bolt until it is tight against the washers. Use a screwdriver to tighten the bolt while holding the nut with a wrench. Repeat with the second bolt. Do not overtighten or you will crack the toilet tank. Step 14: Lift the toilet tank and put it on top of the toilet bowl guiding the bolts through the holes on the toilet bowl. Slide a rubber washer and then a metal washer and finally a nut onto each bolt. Repeat with the other bolt. Hand tighten the nuts until they are flush against the washers. Use your wrench to slightly tighten the nuts but do not overtighten or you will break the toilet. Step 15: Reconnect the water supply line to the toilet tank. Step 16: Put the lid back on the toilet tank. Step 17: Open the water shut off valve and wait for the water to fill the tank. Step 18: Flush the tank 3-4 times to make sure there is no leakage. I know 18 steps seems like a lot but I tried to describe it so that even a newcomer to installing toilet parts can figure out how to install the toilet tank gasket and tank bolts. All in all it took 25 minutes for me to install the new gasket and bolts but that's because I had never done it before. I'm sure it gets easier. At the end of the day this Fluidmaster Kit provided me with all the parts necessary to stop my toilet tank from spilling water all over the bathroom floor every time someone flushes the toilet. I am very happy with this purchase as well as the smooth and easy installation. ... show more

  • 🚽🚽🚽🚽 really a 5 but not brass as stated, but that doesnt matter bc...
The innards and rubber gasket and washer will need to be replaced before That will ever matter anyway.. Our first was at yr 10 ( i read innards bout 7 yrs, 5 w hard water) 🚽Got to augment my " everything " kit from them bought spring 2022... Great kit w some tools, and adjustable vs saw off tube.. etc.. HOWEVER , vs the old kit, it did not have the 3rd set of washers n nuts mine needs for under the tank ( i guess some now just go from tank to bowl then nut?).. ..and original nuts dont fit these bolts.. Ordred just bolts, but then saw this w gasket would come faster .. similar price.. 🍩 about the gasket.. aparently, my 2 yrs ago project w their other kit, i learned that my older toilet needed a diff gasket than theirs..otherwise i had a tiny dribble leak.. The ace one fits better ..bit firmer ( although i think even theirs aren't As firm as 2 yrs ago)...slightly higher n narrower cone.. 💁♀️ SO ULTIMATELY IM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS, NOT WORRIED BOUT THE BRASS THING..THESE BOLTS HAVE A LARGER HEAD THAN MY ORIGINAL ONES FOR MORE COVERAGE OF HOLE.. AS FAR AS THE GASKET, NO USE TO ME..AND NOT REALLY SURE WHY YOU WOULD NEED THAT ALONE,.. .....WHEN ITS PROB GONNA BE THE FLAPPER ASSEMBLY ( not just flapper bc hard water screws up where they meet too) or FILL TUBE THAT FAIL FIRST ..( OUR 3 TOILETS ..1 WAS FILL TUBE, THEN ALL 3 NEEDED ASSEMBLY.. ..SO TO BE HONEST, YOU MIGHT AS WELL CHANGE OUT ALL OF IT.. but you'll need more hardware if you have nuts tween tank n toilet so these worked for that.. P.s i have a short video on the everything Kit page.. 🚽🚽🚽🚽 ... show more

  • Tank to toilet gasket kit
It was a little too thick for the length of device. So had to tuck and squeeze the gasket down in order to have room for nuts to be tightened on.

  • Success
I had an old toilet begin to leak. This rebuild kit was easy to use and had all the parts I needed. The kit was delivered to me for the same cost I would have paid at a store saving me time and gas. I would buy this again. And probably will as there's another toilet of about the same age in the house. ... show more
