The media could not be loaded. Turn the handle counter clockwise! I bought this yarn winder because it was the cheapest option and I’m new to crocheting. The direction packet that comes with it only shows how to set up the yarn winder and the video ad said to turn the crank clockwise - don’t do this! By turning the crank clockwise you WILL end up with a blob of yarn and not a nice cake. I had to turn the crank counter clockwise and the yarn caked nicely. It is a cheaper option, the body is made of plastic, including the gears, but the handle and yarn holder are metal. I just bought this and got it work correctly, so I’m not sure how durable or long lasting it will be. Overall it’s easy to use (once you figure out the correct direction), I can easily control the speed since it is manual, and I think it will function well for this beginner. Yarn used: 5 oz, 251 yards, heartland size 4 medium (1 full scene and one partial scene) 2 oz, 102 yards, worsted peaches & crème size 4 medium (4 scenes all multicolored)

First, clearly this is not an item of high quality. It's very light weight plastic that feels pretty flimsy. The directions were minimal. Tells you how to insert the yarn end and to hold the yarn "straight" and you turn the handle counter clockwise. I tried using this on two different weights of yarn, worsted and sock yarn. Both came out as quite loose and sloppy yarn cakes. I did attempt to alter the tension of how I was holding the yarn going into the winder as well as changing the angles. It did not seem to make a difference. I want a snug yarn ball or cake when I'm done and these were really sloppy and loose. I wouldn't be able to toss them into a basket of other yarn balls without worrying about tangles. I mean it does the job of making a ball-like shape from yarn in a skein or other non balled yarn but knitting with it seems like it could be messy. I'd definitely keep it in a yarn bowl to keep it from moving while knitting. There are better yarn ballers out there. This is prbly the lowest quality one that just barely accomplishes the job.

This is going to make a great birthday gift later in 2025 for my knitting friend. She’s always winding yarn with both hands, and since she has some hand issues, I’m hoping this will make things easier for her. The design is ingenious! The video on the product site is very helpful for understanding how it works. I got the FLKQC Yarn Winder in Pink, and it seems sturdy and perfect for any knitting enthusiast. Highly recommended!
