  • Great--except they need to find a better way to attach these. The adhesive is AWFUL.
These buttons work very well with the Alexa devices and they replaced my Smartthings buttons, which needed to happen since Smartthings is unreliable and now they're pretty much nuking their entire platform by removing all user made modifications. Anyway, these are very expensive and they need a hub. That's the downside. The upside is that they're small and they work consistently. It took me two minutes to download the app, connect the hub, and set up the buttons. Alexa integration is ridiculously easy. Just set the buttons in the app to work with Alexa and they appear as a possible trigger in the Alexa app. Here is the biggest issue encountered after just two days. Nearly ALL of the buttons fell off of the walls. Some were attached to doors--others to drywall. All, but one, fell. And I have pets, so they were all hairy when I picked them up. Just glad no one decided to chew on them (stupid cats will chew on anything). And, no, animals didn't knock them off. Some were well out of reach. Their adhesive is terrible. They should just have done what the Smartthings buttons did and make them magnetic. Then people have the choice: double sided tape OR a magnet (I attached washers to the wall, so I could just take them off and put them back on at will). Now I just need to use double-sided tape anyway, as the adhesive fails pretty quickly. Other than the garbage adhesive, I like these quite a bit. And the button feels nice to push and there aren't as many accidental presses as a Smartthings button, which will press down if you breathe on it. 4/5. Overall, a great product with a crappy adhesive. ... show more

  • Hub is required unless you tie up your phone with the App.
My fault, I should have done some more research. Unlike every other Alexa compatible device out there, these buttons require an external Bluetooth hub. That "hub" has to be the hub they built and you buy from them, or you can use your cell phone as the hub by having the app run 24-7 in the background with bluetooth always enabled. I didn't catch that before I bought the 3 button pack, and now I have to have the app always on in the background running on bluetooth for the buttons to work - or buy a hub. I've got an old cell phone I don't use anymore, so I may convert it into a "hub" that I can leave plugged in all the time, and free up my regular phone from being an always own hub for these buttons which slows it down and is draining the battery. Not to mention if I leave the house with my cell phone, the buttons stop working, so if my wife is home and I'm out, the buttons are dead until I get back home with my cell. *** Update 6/10/22 *** I ended up using an old cell phone as a hub. I installed the FLIC app on it and placed it in the middle of the house so that it can reach the buttons which are scattered throughout the house in different rooms. This works rather well actually. I just leave the phone plugged in all the time since I don't really care about this phone anymore, so I'm not worried about the battery being compromised by always being plugged in. The only problem I've had is about once every month or so, the App loses connection with the buttons, so I have to restart the phone and app, then resync with the buttons (just get near them and press them once). Other than that, using an old cell phone as a hub has been a great (and cheaper) alternative to buying a dedicated hub for these. And this has freed up my daily cell phone from having to control the buttons, so it's been a win-win. ... show more

  • Fills the gap in my smart home system
This seems to perfectly fill the gap that existed in my smart home system. As a prime example, I sometimes get up in the middle of the night, as people do, and frequently when I wake, I'm a little horse, and Alexa doesn't quite understand my command to turn on the low-level lights along the path to the bathroom. Now, I can do that with the tap of a button on the side of my nightstand - a hold will turn the lights off (along with the other lights if I'd switched those on separately), and a double tap brings the room lights up to full. The two others from the 3-pack currently sit next to covered switches that operated fixtures that now have smart bulbs installed (will be 3D printing new switch covers that will hold the Flic buttons today), and I've already got ideas for where the next ones can go. I didn't have an ethernet port available for a Flic hub (it would have been nice if the hub could work on WiFi), but I did already have an old smartphone in a 3D printed wall bracket that I use for other smart home systems, so I installed the app on that since it's always here, unlike my personal phone or tablet, and that works great. ... show more

  • Too expensive, needs hub to really be useful
I got this switch so that my wife's parents can control my smart lights easier. They are not native English speakers so it's tough for them to communicate with Alexa. The problem is that in order for this to work, you have to get the hub too or else your phone would have to be near the switch with the Flic app running in the background. If the price was about 100 dollars for a hub and a few switches, I would use it. But, 160 dollars is a bit steep for what it is. I would rather buy a cheap plug in lamp with a remote for them to use. I just thought it would be cool for them to be able to activate an entire Alexa routine, turning on multiple smart devices. I'll be returning this and waiting for prices to come down or for something new to come out that is better. ... show more
