Description

Smart knee-length cape inspired by the Sami's versatile and practical Luhkka. Can be worn on its own during the fall and spring and as a reinforcement garment over normal winter clothing on cold winter days - just as the Sami have always worn it. When worn over normal shell garments it offers flexible protection against the cold and bitter winds and any snow can be quickly shaken off before going indoors. A thin synthetic lining has been added to the strong, wind and water resistant G-1000 for extra warmth. The cape has a fixed, adjustable hood with detachable synthetic fur edging and a reflective band in the back. There is a half zipper in the front and a G-1000 gusset in the opening with soft fleece on the inside. A breast pocket is positioned immediately beside the opening and further down there is a kangaroo pouch. Push buttons at the wrists hold the cape in place when you are on the move. Zipper pulls and the trim are in natural tone leather.

  • Very useful garment. Looks charming on
I thought about buying this garment for 2 years. It is worth it for my lifestyle. It makes me very happy. This cape is very functional it is not a down pour covering but it protects what you are carrying, you can put it over anything. I pull it over my pjammies to walk the dog sometimes and to ride my bike to the grocery store. It has a great hood and the snaps allow you to adjust it to the weather. ... show more

  • A very good alternative to Canada Goose
After extensive research I bought this coat for a trip to Northern Alaska to see the Northern Lights. It was March and the weather was between 0 to10 degrees during the day and -5 to -10 degrees at night. I wore a base layer, insulated snow pants, a fleece jacket, a lightweight down jacket and the Fjallraven parka over everything, along with Baffin snow boots (rated to -40 degrees). I was never cold! this jacket served as a great outer layer. I am 5'6" and weigh 150# and I bought a size medium based on the reviews. The fit was a little snug with all the layers, which is to be expected. I do wish I had purchased the large, but I suspect it might have been too large without the layers I now wear this parka on the coldest winter days in NJ and it keeps me toasty with regular clothing underneath. I am very happy with this coat and really glad that I bought this instead of the Canada Goose coat which cost a couple hundred dollars more. I also like the fact that not *everyone* is wearing this brand so it is a little more unique for the moment. ... show more

  • Love it, super warm,
we got one of the coldest winters in a long time and this jacket came just in time. I also love the small pocket inside of the big front pocket. holds my wallet nicely

  • Love it!
I love the look. Bought last December. Was sad I didn't have more opportunity to wear. We had unseasonable winter. I am planning to do the abbreviated Camino in Spain in October and know my daypack will be fine underneath. I took to Rome in January and was too warm most of the time also I ended up removing and carrying for many sites as the heavy security made this look like a good place to hide stuff if I had bulk underneath and I didn't want more scrutiny. Love the fashion and durability though! ... show more

  • Back side of pocket material all pills
Size: Medium Color: Dark Grey
Poor quality material on the underside of the pockets. Jacket worn about 5 times in good weather (just to go shopping). The back side of pocket material is all piled & looks terrible if on a chair, laying on a bed, or anywhere it's possibly draped open... Paid way too much money for this.

  • Stylish and useful coverup for wind and rain in cool weather
Stylish, comfortable topper traveled with me to Portugal. Useful over heavy sweater and hood was a real bonus in the wind. The only downside was having to put everything on underneath that had to go over my head(like an over-the-shoulder bag) first.

  • Nice winter parka... not sure about real cold
I was looking for a real winter parka that I can wear outside when its snowing wet and cold. I ordered this parka after having returned the Canada Goose Expedition parka. I found the other parka too short and the pockets too small, and its size M was somewhat small with arms on the shorter size. So I hoped this one would be a better choice. It arrived this morning. What I like: It's very comfortable and seems to be warm. I have yet to test it in the cold. I'm 5'7'' (1.74m) and normally size 12. The parka fits well in size L. I was unsure whether to take M or L. It might be ok in M as well, but I'm glad I chose L because I prefer the somewhat looser fit, and it's definitely not oversized for me. It is quite wide around the hips, but there's a cord to adjust this. The arms are long but not too long, just perfect because there's no exposure to cold when arms are bent. I often order tall sizes for this reason, not needed here. Overall length is really good for me, it goes well over the hips to around 4'' above the knees. The parka has many functional pockets. The lower outside pockets are roomy. They are placed a bit too low for me, but ok to put hands in for warmth. The upper pockets are extended to the waist and have zippers. Their placement is also ok for using them as handwarmers. There are two lower mesh pockets on each inside, plus an upper inner pocket on the left side. The hood is adjustable, but when tried it on and pulled the elastic to tighten it, I suddenly had one end of the cord in my hands, and no way to get it back into the hood. I had been pulling gently, but the elastic just slipped out of the hood. I think this is flimsy fabrication and would have expected better sewing for a jacket in this price range. I'm keeping the jacket because I like it, and otherwise the fabrication seems to be sturdy. I think I will adjust the hood myself by sewing a tiny fold to keep it back, that shouldn't be a big issue. But I'm subtracting 1 star for fabrication fault and another for the outside pockets that are not really placed with ergonomics of a cold winter day in mind, because actually the lower ones are too low and the upper ones a bit too high to be really comfortable. They are ok and usable, but their placement could be improved. I think the jacket will be fine for leasurely outside activities in cold weather and with snow, but I wouldn't recommend it for serious winter tours, because there's some fiddling with the zipper and opening and closing the pockets. I'm not sure whether the jacket will stand heavy cold and the manufacturer indicates no temperature range. Update (Jan 2014): First test in cold temperatures Occasion: A 2 hour walk outside on a cold but sunny winter's day, around 15-18°F (maybe -8°C) with icy winds With a sweater and fleece hoody under the parka plus my really warm Baffin boots, feet and upper body were comfortable. The hood was very good. When my face skin began to hurt from those icy winds, I closed the zipper all the way up. The collar closes so high that it covers the face well to up to the nose and the hood protects the head, so this was perfect shield. The problem was that I was wearing blue jeans, and the cold kept creeping upwards from the legs. At the beginning it was ok, but the more time I spent outside, the more I froze overall. To summarize: I bought this parka to wear with snowy and wet weather, assuming this goes with only moderately, not extreme, cold temperatures. It was supposed to complement my down jacket which is really warm even in very cold temperatures, but is not waterproof. For this purpose, the parka seems to be ok. For cold temperatures, I'd recommend to combine the parka with suitable accessories - maybe warm tights under the jeans, or thermo-protective pants. Otherwise you might end up stone frozen if staying outside for longer than two hours. ... show more
