Description

One woman learns the secrets of the five Jaeger brothers in the new romance from New York Times bestselling author Penelope Douglas. On the other side of town, in the dark glades, under the rain… Macon is the oldest. Thirty-one. Ex- Marine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him smile. Army is twenty-eight. A single dad with the most beautiful green eyes. He has no idea who he is, if not a Jaeger brother. Iron will be in prison soon. You’d never think it to meet him. He’s a nice guy, actually. But he can’t stop reacting to everything. Dallas is the one I hate. Twenty-one, cruel, and selfish. He takes and then throws away whatever’s left. And Trace is mine. Or he was for about two seconds. No one can tame him for long. Not that I ever wanted to. It was fun, but now I need to go home. Back to my side of the tracks. Away from the swamps and these men. To my parents’ big house. On my clean street. Where I’m never dirty or messy or hot. And I will. I’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning. I just want to crash on the couch tonight. Their house is dark and quiet, everyone else is asleep. Except for one. He sees me crying and comes at me from behind. I let him wrap his arms around my body and hold me tightly. His breath is on my neck, his fingers are in my hair, and he doesn’t stop there. I don’t think it was Trace. Read more

  • unapologetically perfect

How much fun was this? Too much. What a wild ride. On the back of a bike, in the rain, in a white tee shirt, letting your hair ripple in the wind. Definitely my favorite from Pen so far. How does she do it?!?! This was sexy, unhinged, and soooo emotional and all of the characters were really beautifully written. No character bleeding. So. Well. Done. The story layers were peeled back perfectly, the pacing was chefs kiss, she gave me just enough to keep wanting more. I’ll be thinking about this for a long time— I want sequels!!!! More Sanoa Bay please!!!!! Macon was everything. My favorite mystery man. The plot drop at 80%??! Please. I threw my phone across the room and had to take a break. So thankful for this HEA though. I loved Macon’s story and the portrayal of his mental health so much. It really hit me in the feels. Once again I’m crying my eyes out in a Penelope Douglas book completely unexpectedly. I’m just so in awe of her talent and ability to make taboo and tough topics hit you right in the feels!!! She’s a wizard, Harry. A few notes — Spoillerrrsss -- I did not read Tryst Six Venom first and think Pen did a GREAT job with this being a standalone novel. BUT it took me a little bit to understand the dynamics of the town and the families… all in all that was fine by me. I do still have a few unanswered questions… wondering if they were answered there or will be answered in future books. Who is Dex’s mom? (I thought it was Cara but I guess I was wrong!) I want Dallas and Callums backstory and is it over? Does Iron ever become a pilot? Do Aracelly and Army ever fall in love? Where and what is the treasure!!! Is Sanoa Bay going to be okay?! I’m not. ... show more

Loved it! The mystery of who will she end up with really worked for me and kept me hooked. I would be curious to see what happens to all the brothers.

  • Five Brothers!!
Format: Kindle
Five Brothers hooked me from the very beginning and held me captivated all the way through. The story follows Krisjen, a young woman stuck between two worlds — the privileged yet toxic environment she grew up in, and the rougher but more genuine world across town with the Jaeger brothers. You could feel that Krisjen had deep feelings for each of the brothers in different ways — and they for her — but she was also on a journey of figuring out what she truly wanted, even if she didn’t quite know how to get there. The plot was incredibly engaging, with a steady pace that kept me turning pages. Penelope Douglas’s world-building was vivid and atmospheric — I could practically feel the heavy Florida heat, the sudden storms, and the dreamy yet crumbling settings of St. Carmen. The contrast between Krisjen’s clean, bright mansion (straight out of Palm Beach luxury) and the Jaeger brothers’ neglected, swamp-claimed estate was so well done that it felt like stepping between two different worlds every time the setting changed. The character development was another major highlight. I had clear images of all the characters in my mind, and it was satisfying to see them grow throughout the story. Krisjen’s character especially stood out. She’s eighteen, freshly graduated from high school, feeling stuck while everyone else moves on, and grappling with her mother’s manipulative attempts to marry her off to an older, wealthy lawyer to secure her own lifestyle. Despite the wealth and polish she grew up with, Krisjen longs for something real — for love, for freedom, for belonging — which she finds in glimpses with the Jaeger brothers. Each of the Jaeger brothers felt distinct and fully fleshed out: • Macon, the brooding, responsible oldest brother, hardened by the loss of their parents. • Army, the single father with a softer side, trying to balance running the family business with raising his son. • Iron, the good-hearted troublemaker facing jail time. • Dallas, the hot-headed rebel with a grudge against the wealthy. • Trace, the youngest, the charming player who had a casual thing going with Krisjen for months. The chemistry between the characters was off the charts. The intimate scenes were sizzling, but what really made them powerful was the depth of emotion and the complicated, often messy feelings between everyone. There was a strong theme of family — both blood and chosen — that ran underneath all the heat and tension, making the story feel richer and more heartfelt. Overall, Five Brothers was a raw, steamy, emotional ride with compelling characters, lush world-building, and a heroine you root for every step of the way. If you love angsty, character-driven romances set in atmospheric, deeply divided small towns, you’ll want to pick this one up. ... show more

  • meh- plot holes and confusing story line
Format: Kindle
I wanted to like this book but it just didn’t add up as a whole. Parts of it were good, most of it didn’t really go together. For instance (spoiler alert)- she was with army and then Macon. She just switches guys and it’s not addressed. The plot just had too many holes. At least it’s somewhat/half ass addressed when she switches brothers in the other instances. The whole conflict between the saints and the bay characters was just too much. Just have them fight over land - don’t add all this other fight over kaleigh and her siblings. And what’s with the video cameras and threats to use footage that they never did use? Three was just a lot of weird sub plots that weren’t necessary in my opinion ... show more
